I once got myself wished dead and have also been harrassed in game for being open about my gayness. Some encounters are toxic but I never report them anyway and dont let randoms break me down.
But I think the majority of the community is really okay and have experienced more good stuff than bad stuff.
However Op sorry to hear you really need to be more assertive and try and speak up more. Those trolls know you are an easy target and you need to change that. But I know that is really not easy and I hope you will ever find a way to get along with random people.
You dont have to be liked by everyone if you try to achieve that people just abuse you.
i dont think the OP post is related to being an introvert.
im an introvert, and i think its kinda nice. i enjoy privacy and my own thoughts and do not have fun in big gatherings at all, even in mmos i enjoy being a solo player. but i also enjoy the company of others. and i dont have any anxiety or whatever.
this person, no offense, is mistakenly mixing irl and gaming.
when you mix real life and gaming is when you must stop playing games. any game. read a book or go for a walk and get some fresh air (even if you are doing it alone, which i also enjoy, we introverts dont ‘need’ a work-out partner)
Maybe try the ‘In-game friend’ thread that Punyelf posted in the pinned section at the top. Have a browse through that and you’d probably have a much better chance of connecting with like-minded people, rather than random morons.
I didn’t know if i wanted to go in here and read any replies. I knew what kind of answers i would get. Some have been wonderful and i wish i met you all in game, and some… not so nice. I don’t like when people questions my social phobia. Just because i can write here doesn’t mean im lying about it, you don’t know my story. I never go outside, i can’t even talk to my brother on phone. It took me 2 years before i could even say hi to anyone in game (i remember i ran away or logged out when people whispered me haha). After that i have learned more and more to talk to people.
I was serious in my post. It all happened. Maybe i have been very unlucky or maybe it’s because of my aspergers. It’s true though that i have been mixing my rl and game life. I think all of you would have done the same if you were me. No rl friends, live alone and can’t go outside because of anxiety… even the most introverted person needs company sometimes. That’s when its nice to log in to WoW and be with other people, to feel you are not alone anymore. People in game means so much to me, probably a lot more than i am for them.
I doubted for a long time if i should mention the in game boyfriend. I knew people would make fun of me, but i still wanted to tell about him because it hurt me deeply.
Of course i know there are good people in this game, i just need to find them. But after 13 years of playing, and have met so many bad people, i gave up. It’s not worth the risk of getting hurt again, to find friends. As i said before, i don’t have the mental strength for it anymore. It’s simply too many bad people out there.
Lets hope people can be more friendly to each other in the future.
Thank you all so much for the likes on my first post and all the wonderful answers i got from some people. It means a lot to me.
It sounds to me that you’ve indeed mixed RL with Ingame stuff a bit too much. I’ve noticed along the years that alot of people don’t take well to listening to a new member or even a long time member of a group/guild when they start talking about RL things, especially if it’s sad stuff or mental related.
What i have also noticed is that there’s tons of people who are willing to sit and listen to it and those who have voiced their annoyance to having their guild chat filled with the same sad convo on an almost daily basis have usually been shut down very fast.
This is just what i’ve seen, try not to get too personal with every new person you meet because you don’t know how they will react to hearing about your RL personal stuff right off the bat.I used to be like that back in the day but stopped after i noticed that most people really just don’t seem to care and will even get annoyed with you.
You should not expect people be friendly or not in general.
Dont expect that random people will be your free shrink, build actual relationship worthy of smth.
If you whole friendship idea is people whiping your etears i can see why people chose to dodge you.
Many come here to get distracted and not to erve napkins. Ask yourself what did you do to help someone before cursing community.
If you are able to selfreflect ibstead of blaming others which i honestly doubt after this thread.
Karmafarmers wont actually help you here but only say smth nice anf forget about you. So you need to self reflect.
