It’s no use adding any content if you suffer through it with 10fps. This rift event, for example, is a very good idea, but it is completely ruined by lagg.
don’t care how old the game is, the servers… a multibillion dollar company in 2023 is still using the 2004 engine. It’s just pathetic.
Bobby, eat your company!!!
There’s no other way.
WoW is almost 20 years old. It’s an old game made with an old engine. There’s no changing that.
New engine means new game.
It’s definitely not just the engine… 9.1 had this exact same problem. It was barely playable. And I’m more than convinced that is the actual reason why half the player base left the game during that patch, not because the patch itself was bad (not that it was good either, don’t get me wrong).
Then 9.2 was almost perfect, no major problems… 10.0.7 and 10.1 definitely didn’t have this problem either…
Seems they simply released this patch before it was finished, like they did with 9.1… but I’m no expert, so what do I know.
They should instance these events a bit like they did with Argus. The events on Argus were ok, the only reason I didn’t do them very often is that they were on Argus and getting to them was a pain.
The soup was a lag fest too in the beguinning… now it rusn fine. Again, this indicates that they simply didn’t finish this patch and released it way before they should have.
I think the expansion was also released much earlier than it should have been.
The thing is, they design it for the long term, not the immediate short term.
In 2 or 3 weeks time nobody is going to be farming these Rifts anymore. So they’ll be dead. So the system of dumping every gamer in Azeroth into 1 instance will work well then.
But at the moment, everyone is trying to jump in and get it done.
I find patchs which attract players to open world result in lag.
It seems simply its not able to keep up when open world becomes popular.
it’s all about milking money. with minimal effort. should be obvious.
and when i look at the patch… god…! who programs such a sick nonsense?
even addon devs design MUCH better. And they’re super cheap to hire!
and what they did with prot pala’s mana. How sick is that? and it is obvious that no one tested it.
and list goes much further. much further…
In my experience the FPS lag is generally caused by spell effects, the connection lag caused by procs (whether they happen or not).
I’ve said it before: Maybe if we slowed down on the proc-o-rama and visual vomit a bit things would get a little smoother.
there are many threads with people who have new graphics cards and who have lag problems in wow.
i have an old gtx 1660 phoenix, on a ryzen 5600x, and runs at 60 fps even during rift event.
have yet to encounter lag in wow
Do you realise that engines can simply be upgraded? It doesn’t matter how old it is. WoW is one of the smoothest games combat and gameplay-wise out there. If you have a time rift with 50 players using abilities on one mob, pretty much any game would lag. They just have to shard it
ok when they put a dismount cordon around it
Because no flying?
Partly.
Argus was just horrible. Maze like terrain with mobs everywhere including way too many Elites. As well as being napalmed from the air at random.
I could live without flying if the place was reasonable to get around. Timeless Isle had no flying and I was happy enough there.
We needed a new engine years ago. At this point, they are just bolting on stuff knowing the game can’t handle it, resulting in an MMO that decimates your framerate when anything remotely MMO happens.
It’s pretty ridiculous tbh.
I am so conflicted about that thing.
One the one hand I thought it was unbelieveably cool to go there and I loved the art direction.
On the other hand they kindda did it dirty by making it so small and saying “oh but it’s all just fel corrupted” while their own presentation of the planet shows fel pools and a massive ruined city massive ravines and whatnot, and I DEFINITELY agree about the mazelike terrain.
Those zones would be massively improved by literally just stretching the terrain 3x in both directions and slightly repositioning the buildings to account for it x’D
But that’s just Legion in a nutshell. Broken Isles are like this as well.
i hope you mean 10 years ago or more?
because current engine is a joke for 2023
and a new engine means a new game which is a surefire way to kill it.
give it a week or so it will calm down
