The game is unplayable in this form

That’s simply not true. World of Tanks moved to a completely new engine 5 years ago. War Thunder did aswell in late 2019. Just to name a couple of moderately successful MMOs

Exactly.

They’re bound this engine if they want to keep WoW going.

You’re also naming two COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY different games.

Ofc none tested it
but reverting something means admiting that their job is OBSOLETE
which they cant do ofc
instead they`ll force ppl to ACCEPT the new REALITY with bad and poor UI redesign so-called NEW and FRESH UI
list goes on
Remember how they solved problem with m+ keys back in the days? When ppl were throwing away overtuned dungeon keys
Instead they just made it un-destroyable lol
Simply dont fix the problem force ppl to accept the problem as a new reality - its their motto

These games are also way smaller than WoW and are functionally completly diffrent. Changing an engine is a MASSIVE thing to do, even for smaller games. You arent doing that on a weekend.

But what is the point of changing wow’s engine? The engine can just be updated and modified. People don’t seem to understand how engines work in video games. The engine is not the end all be all capacity of a game. They can improve old engines, and they probably did anyway. Just look up how old engines are of some new titles like New World. The call of duty engine for example exists since 2005. Do you think the graphics are too bad, or the gameplay isn’t fluent? Ofc you don’t. New engines are good to have for a new game, because the work has already been done, but if you have a game like wow it’s probably not worth to replace, because they’ve probably put an insane amount of work into wow’s game engine already anyway.

Just attempted a Rift and the lag was so bad I DC’d twice then we all got booted out of the boss instance, This is on Blizz and they need to sort it out if they don’t want people giving up.

I agree that lots of work has been done but things like crowded events seems to bring the game to its knees for many players, even those who have PCs capable of running the game several times over.

That’s a server problem though, right? Even in other new games you also have lag, if a place is extremely crowded. WoW is unironically a S-class premium product in gaming in many ways, but if you have 50-100 people in an instance doing their complicated 20 buttons rotation with fancy sparkling abilities and tons of calculations happening, etc., it will be laggy. They should have tuned it for around 5-15 people, and solved it with a sharded scenario queue… It’s probably just that they want it to feel like “open-world”. After 2-3 weeks tho, I’m sure it will be less laggy

this is unfortunately the sad truth.
but the only good thing is that there are people who understand it too.

Right. Which is well overdue.

I’d rather they close up shop on WoW so they can make something new and better rather than cynically continuing to frankenstein this 20-year old game when it’s clearly coming apart at the seams.

The lag is huge and the LFR que shadowlands besides castle narthia doesn’t work!

They seem taking steps back to Shadowlands.

And for an old engine it’s aged insanely well. WoW is by far one of the most responsive mmo’s out there and have been so for a strangely long time.

making an MMO in modern time is a money sink.

literally unplayable (cit)

Not pretending that. But now that the dragon can is open, probably they should pull a Bronze Dragonflight based expansion for the next one, in which we revisit old content for whatever reason (so no work on adding new stuff) and dedicate an entire expansion to bring WoW to (by then) 2025.

I don’t see them charging less than other games for an inferior experience. This is still one of the most expensive games you can play despite running like we’re using time rift 2004 internet and PCs when any major event takes place.

Because no one is doing it, I haven’t seen more than 10 people doing the soup since 10.1.

Black Deser Online is a perfect example of becoming a successful game. After changing publisher they finally are focusing on the player experience rather than milking the players. And even has active GM’s that gives buffs, trolls players, or even you can talk to them. (Bring back GM’s to WoW :< ). The game turned 180* and it’s on a good way to be a big mmo. Better game = more money, but I see Acti Blizz don’t see this, and I don’t think they ever will again. They waiting for the problems to pass by themselves, because people will lose the hype for this event, and finally stop doing it. I wish they would stop buying yahts, and instead of that invest into servers/engine, and wage for employers. Better morale equals better work performance.
Edit: And don’t mind me. I love the game, I’m playing it for years. I’m complaining because I want to the game be better just like many of us.

In World of Tanks’ case, they had to re-create all the in game content in the new engine.

And hasn’t War Thunder been using the Dagor Engine for a long time?

But that’s just it; I’ve tried many MMORPGs over the years. None came close to what WoW does and offers; despite all its faults.

The only other MMORPGs I managed to stick with for extended amounts of time (1 year +) Are: SWTOR and The Secret World (and its ‘re-packaged’ version Secret World Legends).

This is so true. The game was put together very well, but there are too many mistakes.
With every new event or patch, you can expect something that ruins the experience.
