At 60 you don’t get any XP, any new spells, skills or talents.
You don’t feel the progression of arriving to new areas that you are finally high enough level for.
The adventure, exploration and the magical vibe that I felt at lower levels is long gone and has been replaced with grind, grind and grind for numbers.
Running the same dungeon over and over again so that the randomly generated computer number gives you that drop that you so desperately need.
It kind of reminds me of this pathetic, old lady in a casino, constantly pulling that lever on a slot machine for years. Hoping that she finally gets that… “epic drop”. So that she can feel special …for a moment.
but tbh i did a few molten core runs in classic and felt don with the game. i’m just wrapping up some loose ends in retail before i unsub until shadowlands
The Game Starts when you start thinking about the races and classes and which ones you will choose and create your character.
Smart people are also aware that this is a RPG so instead of “leveling guides” and META builds and BiS gear, they actually enjoy the game and the adventure ahead of them and take time to play the way they like and explore or fish or whatever they like to do in Azeroth.
Yes, conceiving the idea of a new character. Which race, gender, class? And the hardest part… the name. Sleepless nights - tons of research and brainstorm on cool sounding names. Finally it hits you. You see that character stare at you and it fits with the name perfectly… and the love begins.
And somewhere along the way all of that becomes reduced. You don’t care much about your name anymore. The looks gets overshadowed by what kind of gear you are wearing and which stats they have. And the mysterious, dangerous areas are just means to an end to grind some specific % chance drop… it is sad, indeed.
You are actually right.
Im just doing that MC runs to be able to see BWL and Nax one day. If I dont, raidleader wont take me there.
Not interested in any minmaxing or BiS, just minimum gear to see further story.
I know this compulsion. That you can always watch it on Youtube and be done with it but there is this little voice that says “that would be cheating, you gotta earn it - you gotta be there yourself”
Well, if you havent figured it out yet, because what you get or do at 60 is meaningful, where as 90% of what you get or do prior is just to get you to 60.
Getting stuff at 60 you wont outlevel> to getting stuff prior to 60 you soon outlevel.
No, the game ends at 60, that’s why it’s called “the endgame”. People who say “the game starts at 60” have no concept of how RPGs work. They’re also the primary reason why Retail is such a messed up experience levelling.
The game really did start at 60 back in real vanilla.
Ah I remember that. Wiping days after days on MC bosses. Three raids of 4 hours a week and generally just adding 1 boss a week to the kill list. Spending some 2 months to get through MC and obtain Ragnaros first kill, and then BWL would already await us.
Repeat the same thing in BWL. There was always ‘progress content’ and all that content required lots of wiping untill the raid got it right.
ZG was released soon, and while it was an easy raid it did add more content. More raid content a pug would wipe on but you could do it easily with your guild.
Always having relevant and challenging PVE content is what made vanilla so good.
But alas Classic started with Frankenpatch and now MC is all about grinding it down ASAP and there is not much else to do.
Well the leveling process is actually the biggest grind of them all, that’s an MMORPG for you. Quests are added to take your mind away from the fact that you are essentially required to grind mobs over and over again until you reach max level. South Park did a fantastic job of show casing this and poking fun when the boys had to kill 65,340,285 boars which is actually what your doing they just have different skins… exploring new zones, killing different types of mobs and such help relieve how mundane the task actually is but that’s really all you’re doing. In that regard it’s not that much different to grinding dungeons/raids at 60 they just do not have enough ways to maintain these distractions once you reach max level once you’ve explored every zone and quests become a lot less rewarding.
Game starts from lvl 1 in classic, that’s why i love it. As for me, the most immersive levels are from 1 to 20 (when the story begins) and then from 41 (when dungeons with the most wonderful stories are opened - Ulda, ZF, BRD and others). I don’t think game ends on 60, but it seems like there is much more to do while you are levelling. So my advice to newcomers: never watch or read these guides about “effective levelling”, just enjoy the story and exploration, or you’ll ruin all the experience of the game for yourself!
Dude it’s like in every other game from Final Fantasy, Diablo to Witcher 3 and RDR2 , all what matters do you have fun or not. From 1-60 lvl there is a lot of content compared to max level. Some people like to roleplay their characters and are not obsessed with min/max. What you have to do as max level is really bland compared to what game can offer you pre-60.
