The lore differences in dungeons and raids

Hi.
Does the version of any raid (present xpac or previous ones) have additional story/lore elements compared to the same raid on a lower difficulty level, e.g. mythic to heroic, heroic to normal, or normal to LFR? Do raids at different difficulty levels (plus dungeons as well) differ, besides mechanics, in additional dialogues or anything else that affects lore and story? If anyone has noticed differences, let give an example.

Hi.

Heroic raids before Siege of Orgrimmar in Mist of Pandaria sometimes had an extra Heroic-only boss.

Once Mythic raid difficulty was introduced, I believe, there were no Mythic exclusive bosses anymore, however, last bosses usually have a Mythic only bonus phase during the fight, which might bear some lore relevance instead of just having extra abilities.

Most notable for me is the Illidan phase from the Gul’dan fight from Nighthold.

Some of the final bosses will have an extra phase with lore implications. Off the top of my head these are:

  • Garrosh Hellscream in Siege of Orgrimmar
  • Gul’dan in The Nighthold
  • Imperator Mar’gok in Highmaul

There’s also at least two raids with a whole extra boss that’s only available on the highest difficulty. Sinestra in Bastion of Twilight and Ra-den in Throne of Thunder will only be accessible on Heroic difficulty.

It happens sometimes, though not that often.

In heroic Deadmines you fight Vanessa Vancleef at the end which is a heroic only boss fight and has a bit to do with the cata Westfall lore.

In Bastion of Twilight I think Sinestra is a heroic only fight.

In Firelands on normal difficulty Ragnaros technically escapes while on heroic Cenarius, Malfurion and Hamuul trap him, starting an extra phase and we actually kill him.

In mythic Highmaul on the last boss Cho’gall comes and kills him and we fight and kill Cho’gall.

Overall the practice isn’t that popular among players because especially for raids mythic is for the top 1-10% or so players. So locking lore that casual players enjoy behind such a barrier is not a popular thing.
