Tyrande killing wardens was her right - they committed treason for disobeying orders from a a superior military commander. It blows my mind that people still bring that up.
First it was not her right. Illidan was imprisoned by a council including Cenarius, there as a son for Cenarius in the prison who Tyrande murdered. Califax i think his name was? could be wrong on that.
Secondly Maiev was not there to sanction any release. Maiev was out hunting Saytrs on Tyrande’s orders. Now look at it from the second in command’s point of view, her boss got sent away and now the one who sent her away and demanding Illidan be released immediately and without warning.
However because she didn’t comply immediately Tyrande murdered her and the other watchers. No matter what way you slice it there was no justification in this, and Illidan went on to destroy night elf villages…that is on Tyrande.

Yeah, and you do it. Night elves don’t live in democracy, they live in theocracy where spiritual and military powers are in the hands of one person - Tyrandes word IS the law. Rulers with such power irl would consider Tyrande a soft and merciful leader.
Also, Illidans crimes are on Illidan, not Tyrande.

Yeah, that’s basically how governments worked since they were invented, worked this way all the way to very recent past and still do in some parts of the world.
The morality of her actions may be questioned, but legality is on her side. When Tyrande says “Only the Goddess may forbid me anything” she is not joking, that’s the truth.

Tyrande’s authority doesn’t extend over Cenarius who was another of the council that locked Illidan away. If Malfurion had backed her…that would have been different.
