Would love them referencing Oppenheimer a bit. Something more serious and less “Haha, LOOK! ME SO FUNNY!” stuff.
Yeah, or maybe a vibe like peaky blinders would be cool, if they wanna get younger people into their game imo. This super hero mindset is not cool anymore. This was popular maybe 10 years ago, not anymore. Or something maybe like Jujutsu Kaisen, Berserk, or Sekiro would be cool and get new people.
Exactly. Generally most people seem to be fed up with it, especially since DC and Marvel don’t produce something good anymore. Like the last real banger from both Studios in Cinema were Endgame and Joker (standalone). And those were serious af for the most time compared to the usual tone.
Their old stuff would not be popular today, because simply society changes over time
Batman did well and so did the Spiderman film but Marvel and DC have been weak in recent years.
Do not forget that the marvel phase started way before BFA onwards the offical start was with Hulk in 2008 10 years before BFA.
Well i dont agree sorry and WoW is not just about the last 3 expacs , you can clearly see it happen in older expacs too with marvel and others being there.
Another example of how modern WoW adopted the Avengers Endgame “Portal Scene” compared to a Game like Doom Eternal from Bethesda.
The Tide Turns In Game Cutscene - Patch 10.2.0 - YouTube
Doom Eternal The Ancient Gods Part 2 Avengers Portals Scene 4K ULTRA HD - YouTube
Modern WoW CLEARLY references the movie, by having dialogue and actions hinting at it, as same as some shot framing…
Meanwhile Doom Eternal, only taking 2 ideas of the scene:
- Final Stand-off
- Portals as transportation method for big armies (they used portals in both the 2014 version and Eternal)
Other than that, everything else just SCREAMS “DOOM ETERNAL”. The shots are different. There is no “Hero in a weak state being backed up by allies” like Alexstraza/Captain America. There is no big speech. Just 2 lines of dialogue in total.
go back and play all of cata please Heramaar heck you can even play the crapstic version when it comes out then come back and say it wasent always like this
heck i still remember that brain dead garrosh costing us our whole airfleet in twilight highlands because he wanted to attack the alliance on the way there
That’s because none of the characters have any of those traits anymore, the character don’t really stand for anything, the writing of the games devolved to, goodies do good things and baddies do the bad. It’s an incredibly immature and quiet frankly pathetic writing style by the hacks that make up blizzards writing team now days.
The reason for this is because blizzard were originally trying to get the Warhammer IP and make a game, but Games workshop didn’t like the style Blizz presented so instead of scrapping the work they changed names of things cobbled together a storyline and made warcraft.
Why you don’t give any examples and comparisons, why you just circleadmiring each other instead of developing actual arguement?
My god level of discussion in this thread is on par with latest cinematic, you deserve it
I mean OP literally linked a video that goes through examples.
Or are you referring to my statement about wow’s primary school level of writing?
i don’t know what the hell “primary school level of writing” supposed to mean tbh, it’s like you tried to sound smart but instead said something stupid
By saying primary school level of writing, I’m implying the writing team have the same capabilities of children in primary school.
If you want examples of this sure:
Let’s compare WoW modern to Warcraft.
Orcs invaded to slaughter and conquer the plant, kill all and take natural resources, Humans beat the Orcs and put them in internment camps/slave labour camps.
The same humans you played as, the alleged “goodies”
There was no real right or wrong in warcraft writing you had complex situation and the characters were behaving in a manor to save their world/ people.
A similar point being the refusal from the wow writing team to accept that the culling of statholme was necessary, if arthus didn’t do that the entire eastern kingdom would have fell to undeath. Which is why it’s poetic that by leaving him to do it alone and allowing him to be manipulated by mal’ganis. They doomed the eastern kingdom to undeath anyway.
This was a good character, a hero, one who while having flaws was a “good” guy. He was pushed to the edge and did the right thing even though it was horrific. He was abandoned by all who he cared for in his darkest moment allowing him to be manipulated. See Arthus did something horrible truely horrible while being the “good” guy.
Every time in modern wow that someone does something horrific be it out of vengeance or malice it’s only characters that the wow teams narrative have turned into the baddies.
Sylvanas burned teldrassil killing innocents sure but it was also the enemies capital where their military might and defences were. Instead of being like yeah this is war attacking the enemies capital is a thing that people do, atrocities of war are a thing.
Then instead of having the alliance retaliate in kind, they went, o no she is a baddie now, even the alliance attack on lordaeron was literally just to get her not to take down the horde. This is all due to the fact their writing team cannot write anything more complex than black and white good guy fight bad guy. In turn this means that all their characters devolve into 2d version of their past selves with which over react to everything with over the top emotion because you no longer have any nuance in the story, and without that you cannot have depth.
To further drive home this point, they then remove the “bad” sylvanas, and get rid of her cause actual sylvanas would never have done such a horrible thing, it’s all cause bad guy did bad thing but new good sylvanas is sowy
Also Biggest miss the wow team made was stopping jaina from drowning orgrimmar in revenge. Alliance is the shiny beacon of good far too often, they always pull them back from doing something out of revenge because they need to keep the good guy identity because again, wow’s writers suck and can’t do anything more than good guys do good bad guys do bad.
got it, scourge and burning legion are grey morality dudes. Also wc 1-2 horde was blatantly evil, like super evil, they were manipulated by demons.
Uther, jaina and some of the arthas soldiers were against it too, are they wow writing team?
Yeah it’s his frens are wrong, arthas did nothing wrong, daam dat deep.
Have you not catched the part where arthas was obviously stubborn and arrogant, and that’s precisely what led him to his downfall? or you just like thinking that wc3 arthas story is about how some gigachad is not held accountable to anything or smth.
because horrific actions are done by bad people, arthas wasn’t a good man y’know
The whole premise of burning of teldrassil is that sylvanas thrown a temper tantrum because some elf said that she won’t win, initially burning wasn’t a part of the plan.
tldr: bfa sylvanas is not a good person
Pay more attention please, I said arthus was flawed, he was a young egotistical prince, but he also was a good guy, a hero in the standard archtype.
I don’t know how to respond to something that foolish, I’ll try though. Uther and jaina walking away was right for the story it lead to Arthas’s downfall which was intresting to watch because he was the classic hero story young cocky prince goes out into the world and learns to be a hero, twist ends up becoming a super villian. That’s good for a story.
The issue is that in WoW Jaina and Uther always refer to not talking Arthas out of the saking of strath as their failure, but realistically it needed to be done. Were you to write those character with the ability of introspection what they would go through is an arch in which they realise they abandoned Arthus not because it was wrong to cull stratholme but because they were in capable of sacrificing their own self image of being a noble person. That ego of theirs forced Arthus and his soldiers to do it without them, leaving him with no moral support in his darkest time.
It’s not about making Arthus out to be better, it’s making Uther and Jaina into full characters with depth. They aren’t just the goodie that does good things and cries when bad things happen, they see their own flaws and failures and learn and grow.
Meh couldnt make it longer than 10 minutes… That guy speaks incredibly irritating.
But I get the gist of the video.
Don’t agree that it applies to WoW.
Any writing that is absolutist in it’s morals aka good guys are pure good 100% of the time and bad are bad, is very very childish which leads to things like the final cutscene in wow, a very immature and boring piece with no real impact on anyone.
Exactly she’s the bad guys now so she do bad things and has temper tantrums, regardless on why a grown as leader of a nation, whom is at this point thousands of years old, would throw her dolly out the pram because someone said something.
As someone who recently returned to the game after a lengthy break, it was pretty disheartening to see how far the game has fallen on some fronts. In terms of the actual game-play, I think it holds up fairly well.
Yet the world-building is off the rails. The story was always prone to disappointments at times but it’s pretty easy to see the agenda being pushed. So many NPC’s have an off-putting design - between the ill-fitting skin tones that were retconned into existence for Blood Elves and that awful half-shaved hairstyle that is alarmingly common these days especially for women.
Then there’s the personality factor. Why are proud Nightborne acting and sounding like modern day influencers? Why is the bitter war between the Alliance and the Horde being referred to as a ‘rivalry’? Why is everyone so eager to be ‘friends’ with individuals and races complicit in acts of genocide? Why are dragons acting like moody, petty teenagers? Why is every other NPC seemingly gay?
I’m gay myself, on that note - and being LGBT does not equal wanting to see over-representation. You can see by the reactions and comments on social media that the changes were mostly done not to be ‘inclusive’ but as a petty way to ‘lay claim’ to something people enjoyed as it was already. A very common malady in this day and age, it seems!
It’s a shame that the MMO market is in a fairly stale state at the moment, since in terms of actual content WoW is fairly decent in terms of having things to actually do - though it’s lost a lot of its heart and soul along the way, particularly where the story is concerned.
Hopefully the next expansion is a return to form, at least in terms of tone and aesthetics…
I don’t like TWW cinematic. Because Thrall is daddy and Anduin is weak and fragile boy. Where is the War and where is the Craft? Current Professions are insanely badly developed and presented, UI is terrible and navigation blows. Also Work Orders should NOT excist or any other RNG crap.
Marvel movies have been bad non-stop over 10 years. Logan was last great one. Action is bad camera shaking compared to Matrix movies. Target audience are teenage boys, who want their 2 hours of power fantasy and god complexity treatment. Budget cuts & big profits because sheeps go to watch no matter how bad it is.
Shadowlands destroyed server communities. BFA ruined PvP and PvE realms almost instantly. WoD destroyed over half of the Classes and they still haven’t recovered.
Well, one of the many theories I heard is that there are certain “scores” companies need to fulfill to show Shareholders how much they pursue “new trends” to be worth investing money in.
If that theory is true, AB did that mostly to fill those scores by hiring “diverse” and putting also such content into their games. With them being under MS ownership now, it is likely that such restrictions to appease shareholders don’t apply anymore since Blizzard is now 100% owned by Microsoft (as far as I know). And Microsoft has usually the stance “we just give you the money, you do your thing making games”-mentality.
And with Chris Metzen back it is very likely that WoW will return its focus narratively to the roots of the franchise again, especially with him being creative director, which also includes voice acting, NPC dialogues and more that he can define by his terms.
Well, you can always speed up videos on Youtube if it is too slow for you.
