The maw... how can you even have patience for that!

I played during the launch, when it was fresh. After couple of days there, I realised that I don’t really wanna play this game. Then seeing how low my dps is with 95% parse with equal gear on destro warlock, I just stopped playing.

Came back recently and trying to get reputations up, but it’s taking me 2-3 days to complete one daily quest in Maw, cause the quest itself (A suitable demise) is just designed to waste your time:

  1. mob spawn for quests is very slow
  2. they are all spread out and you can’t mount.
  3. enemies just aggroing on you.
  4. you can’t even kill them first, then go to forge. you have to go back and forth.

Many world quests are of the same design. Like wtf. I wanna do m+, crafting and pvp. This kind of quest designs make me hate torghast even more, cause you can get stronger by doing dailies and buying items, but the process itself is just making me wonder “why am I paying for this?”

I’ve completely skipped all content in the maw and world quests and so on, it just does not interest me at all.

Well it was supposed to be this zone where you feel like you’re always in danger, but so far the only danger I’ve felt while in The Maw was the high chance of hitting my head on the desk as I struggle to stay awake.

They tried to design it to be scary and deadly, but all it is… is annoying. They simply upped the mobbed density in an uninspired zone design. I stopped bothering with any maw content a while ago and so did all of my friends. I don’t M+ anymore with my friends having left so there’s no need for me to grind sockets which are the only worthwhile item in there.

If it had been more like Argus I don’t think people would have hated it so much, you could at least mount up right away in Argus which made it less annoying.

I tried doing some dailies there early on but the terrain is horrible, mobs are scattered everywhere and there are elites that I can’t solo mixed in amongst them. I could handle the normal mobs but kept aggroing elites and I can’t solo them.
I gave up and haven’t been back really. I did the save 20 souls for a while by just clicking the one cage near the Oribos portal.

Sure the Maw feels dangerous but it doesn’t feel like I have the terrain to navigate around mobs to avoid fights and I don’t have the power to win fights with elites. So there isn’t really any gameplay involved it’s just run and hope you get to where you need to go and don’t worry about the stygia cost…

did you try the maw with wm on ?

i was fighting a h2 for 30 mins , to kill 1 rare

Why on the Jailor’s grey earth would I be doing that?

u get more stygia and almost every rare are up

I still don’t know what the hell that soul currency is good for. But honestly, I despise everything in WoW that is related to currencies and reputations - all those features are mobile game cancer that don’t add any fun.

Luckily ignoring the Maw wasn’t punishing to progression so far, and it seems like it will stay that way in 9.1.

The only thing I use it for is to upgrade the covenant sanctum transportation network to rank 3 for the Oribos portal.

That’s pretty much what I do, unless the 3 rares quest is up - even then if its timed right I don’t have to go far. Borr-Geth right near that first stone prison (2 more next to him) and the Soulsmith just across the path. Just up the hill for the 3rd one and outta there!!

Imagine being a game designer who came up with the concept for the Maw and having that down on their resume.

Hiring employer: “So what is your proudest achievement in your game design career?”
Maw designer: “I came up with a design for a game zone that made people not want to play my employer’s product anymore.”
Hiring employer: “I see, well, we’ll get back to you in a week to let you know if you were successful in your application or not.”

There are 3 mounts one can obtain that work in the maw atm. Or wait til 9.1 and you can mount anyhow.

Never had any issues with mob spawning for a suitable demise. I was more annoying at having to travel to the different forges instead.

Yes. Thats what enemies do. Theres however usually an abundance of people there.

There are plenty of mobs dropping the orb.

The main issue with the maw lies in that its utterly utterly boring and not worth losing the brain cells over a couple stygia for a socket. Especially not for anyone that isnt pushing the absolute limit of his being.

same with islands really… i only went to the maw… if i had no choice…

Maw doesn’t feel dangerous though, it just feels boring and slow. As if everything in there designed to slow you down, instead of making the engagements fun.

We apply the very same patience applied to slooowly grinding for results since 2004. It’s just that more and more people realise it was never that fun.

It’s okay in bursts, like doing the weeklies and that’s it.

I like questing in the elite areas because it benefits you to group up as it is dangerous if you don’t for most people. Wouldn’t do it every day but it’s kinda cool to hop in once in a while.

I only do the weeklies and whatever bonus obs I encounter on the way. Not into doing it on a daily basis. If I had stuck to one char like that I’d be max rep by now, dang it. Instead I have tons of chars halfway to the 8000 threshold…

So half done they were, the annoying aspect was I played a few PvP ones with a friend, and they were pretty great.

I think the main issue with the maw is the massive sameyness in the surroundings. Argus was a lot more varied in design than the Maw, and far less boring.

I dont do it xD. No mount, no thank you!
