The open world is absolutely pointless

I just don't understand this design philosophy at all.

You go to all this trouble designing some of the most beautiful zones we've ever had in the game, yet you make content out in this gorgeous open world as pointless as humanly possible.

Treasure Chests

Stop calling them treasure chets. Seriously, what is the purpose of them? They show up on your minimap which completely defeats any sense of discovery and they contain literal trash items. Nobody, and I mean nobody, gets excited at the prospect of looting 19 War Resources.

Look at how Runescape deals with treasures chests. Mobs have a chance to drop 'clue scrolls' which sends you on a quest of varying difficulty to find the treasure. Why on earth don't you do something similar? Imagine the satisfaction of following some epic trail taking you all around Azeroth until you finally decipher where the treasure chest is.

The current system is lazy beyond belief and there is surely no rational way that you can defend it.

Rares

I don't even bother with them anymore. Kill some rare mob and loot 33 Azerite Power.

Yippie.....

They don't even reset. Why?

Make them more of a challenge. Let them reset once a week. Give them some interesting fight mechanics and make them drop something worthwhile. Cosmetics, mounts, rep commendations. Anything is better than the trash they already drop.

Make them interesting to find. Make them little puzzles in their own right. Instead of just wandering around in plain sight, how about some hidden quest that allows you to lure them out. How about making them feel rare?

World Quests

No, I'm not running a dungeon for 75 rep. I point blank refuse.

No, I don't get excited for a 320 gear reward.

Seriously what are your content team smoking?

They feel like an absolute chore. Once I have finished with Honorbound rep I don't think I will ever set foot in Kul Tiras again. What would be the point? What would I actually gain by doing so? I don't do these World Quests because I'm 'having a blast'. I'm doing them because I have no choice if I want to become exalted with each faction.

You have all this phasing technology that you could use to make these quests FAR more interesting and organic. Look at the way Guild Wars 2 does open world content. You don't go to a stupid map marker and throw onions at birds, when you're travelling around things just happen. Everywhere you explore is like a constant stream of events. These events can have a number of different outcomes depending on your actions.

It feels alive, it's constantly changing. It doesn't feel like a chore.

Instead of wasting your time pruning all the classes and designing trash Azerite traits, why weren't your content team looking at making these truly amazing new continents feel engaging and interesting?

World Bosses

'World Bosses'

Give me a break.

Once a week, join a giant Zerg group that melts the boss in 10 seconds flat. That's some really great 'content' you've got there....

Make them scale with the number of people for starters. Stop making it so you can just delete them with enough people, it totally defeats the purpose.

Have multiple world bosses that reset every day. Make them have an effect on the surrounding area, make them engaging and make people actually feel like this is a real boss that everyone in the open world has to band together to face.

Fully agree. And as you've stated in your post. It's just laziness, look at BfA as a whole. Everything (except the maps) are done with very minimal effort.

There's absolutely no quest for alliance to give a reason for uldir. Seriously what the hell? Classes got pruned to hell. They couldn't be arsed to add another talent row in for 120. They couldn't be arsed to make warfronts half decent. They couldn't be arsed to put toys/mogs/mounts in rare mobs like every other expansion.

They can easily implement alot of stuff to make the game better. Just can't be bothered to lol.
I agree to a lot of this, was better in older expansions. Specially when it comes to treasure chests and rares.

As long as the Raiding and PvP scene is doing ok, they genuinely don't give a toss about anything else.

The YouTube shills will continue defending them regardless so where is the incentive? They get away with doing the bare minimum because people just roll over and accept it.

You see it all the time on these forums too.

"Yeah well I'm having sooooooooo much fun"

It doesn't matter how legitimate or accurate your criticism is, you're guaranteed this sort of response in an attempt to shut down any sort of constructive discussion. It's almost as if people fail to comprehend that those who are critical often genuinely want the game to get better, as opposed to just mindlessly hating.

Yes, it's pointless. Open world traditionally has been way more important in sandboxes, and WoW was always a themepark mmo, as its main focus is raiding.
A lot of the content is made with they're feet , no incentive to do it , poor rewards. In my opinion they should hire better personal , this is how much this team can come up with , or they are 5 devs who handle all they're games and they have board in a back room and they all sign up for all projects .
Azerite is currently the only thing to farm, but it dribbles in... so agreed - not the most inspiring activity once you get to ~AiL350+ & Exalted w/ all 6 Factions.

I wouldn't say it's the content itself that's at fault, rather than the rewards it pays... to that end, the scaling for individual iL should be snail paced, compared to scaling for the number of individuals in the fight; which Expansion first had Rares that ramped at +50% base for each additional player that attacked them...?

Does that still apply...? I'm too busy fighting, usually to notice what's left on their bars - except if half a Realm joins in...
I dont bother farming azerite anymore. With daily emisary and 2 days raiding, i usually cap out a level by the end of the reset.
I agree.
The "treasures" and "rares" have become a complete joke.
I can't even be bothered to dismount anymore, if I run just past a treasure chest.
No, I'm not excited for a treasure of 8 War Resources and a 2g trash item.
The same goes for the rares.

Honestly... I think you're my soul mate <3 couldn't agree more.

There's so much opportunity missed in this game it's crazy. I've said for years why not a timewalking raid? Where it changes weekly. Would be stupidly easy to do with the scaling. All bosses could drop tokens, and a vendor you can buy missing pieces off.

Would give guilds another night to chill, and have a laugh on discord. And actually work towards an item you want. Would be epic to do a mop raid next week, wotlk week after. That's an actual challenge. And for people who didn't play that expansion to experience it.

Would literally take hours to implement it, but ya know... lazy blizz.

I agree with all your points apart from that ,there is lots of mogs/toys/pets/mounts that drop from rares in all zones and even random mobs and treasures but on the whole i agree with 98% of what you said .
Choko. Last year there was the BT TW. Maybe there's hope to have somethin else...
It can still be said, that until BfA is 6 months old, it is... new.

Some of the threads on these kind of topics would be more viable if we had less than a year to go to the next Expansion, rather than still in the first six months on the latest one.

I agree with everything you said, except the part about world bosses.
Wiping on outdoor stuff with a group of strangers is not fun, so I think they're fine as they are now.
Why so serious??

Didn't you guys read the BfA EULA??

Blizzard clearly states they are going to make everything you know and remember liking about WoW, WORSE.

WQ - worse, check.
Dungeons -worse check.
Leveling experience - worse, check.
GCD - worse, check.
Pruning, with nothing new or interesting - worse, check.
Treasures/rare bosses - worse, check.
Table missions - worse, barely worth doing, check.

RNG - keep it steady.
LFR - keep it steady.

Introduce new great and wonderful content:
Battlefronts - trash, check.
Island exploration - trash, check.

Blizzard has delivered as promised! Resounding success!! Rejoice!!

That is what constructive means!
Lots of nice ideas, this thread deserves sticky.
That is good critique and something i can get behind.
I do agree with everything you said but we can still have hope things will improve in 6 months into expansion i know probably not but at this point its good to have hope Blizz wil hire competent people to develop theyr game and stop using theyr feet to code its not working apparently, also i have bigger issue of the millennial clueless community that almost knows nothing and complains about stuff that they should work for in order to get those that got used to mobile games and Fortnite and aswel as CS.GO,Cod kind of people that come and play here.Dont get me wrong i love to help out new players and most people but when someone is an crybaby angry idiot i cannot help those only god can help those people and i see them alot in game sadly.
