The private server scene subreddit tripled in terms of frequentation since the tbc launch

Some of you guys will know about wowservers (reddit) obviously, and although it’s not exactly the chillest subreddit, nor the most mature one around, it’s still where you go to when you want to see how the private server scene is doing…

…One of the interesting things I noticed is that it literally tripled since the TBC announcement, and since Blizzard said they wouln’t release fresh servers: there are tons more people there than usual (the other night it was around 2000 people online instead of the 700-800 that are usually there).

If you’re going to tell me that it has nothing to do with the scummy paid services and the killed hype that went with it, regarding TBC, I don’t know what to say.

Tons of people are starting to feel disgusted with this, and it shows.

A lot of people are starting to look for alternatives as Blizzard spat on the face of the original target playerbase of classic wow. Sure, there are a lot of people who are ok with the payed features, bust most of them are either people who are ok with the state of retail and who like this business model, people who don’t have the time to play the game and who are entitled, thinking a 15 years old game should change for them, blizzard drones and so on…not exactly the kind of people you want to play with anyways.

There’s a reason why the fresh demand is so big right now.

Well, let them play there while I play here, it’s fine. Who cares.

as far as I know there has not been many good functional tbc servers around in the past so maybe thats a factor?

I visit that subreddit on a daily base again. There was no need for it when we were playing vanilla but now we are in need of an alternative again.
Lizzard has once again shown their true face and it isn’t pretty. Time to say farewell just as all the OG’s in their team.

Imagine being that dumb to play in private servers, dedicate 200-300 hours and then all your progress, items, profs, etc are wiped out when those illegal servers are shut down.

As much as the mount is ugly as hell and ruins my experience by how ugly it is.
I won’t go to a private server, at least not whilst there’s no WoW token in-game.

happens for a lot of projects, but not all of them.

NB: once a server reaches the end of its cycle, everyone ends up quitting for the next best thing, as you just witnessed with the classic era servers.

That whole process that you critize is why we ended up having classic in the first place. Why People were able to play classic for over 10 years and why they continued to do so, eventho the private servers where buggy messes.

Its also one of the reasons why people call for fresh servers.

Imagine having a full bis character on a retail classic ghost server while paying for both the character remaining there (cloning) and a monthly fee.

The classic project may not have been what some wanted due to the playerbases different mindset and knowledge … but blizzard themself made and allowed the whole thing to be so much worse than what it should’ve been.

If things keep being as awful as they currently are, I’ll rather play on a fresh vanilla or tbc server from a trustworthy project than on blizzard’s realms.

The only thing that would potentially make me stay are fresh servers without microtransactions anyways, and I don’t see Blizzard doing that. I have the feeling that tons of people are in the same situation, except zoomers and dad gamers who don’t care about paying blizzard for anything and everything.

Lol. Yeah the mega lagged 10000 Chinese botter pserver experience sure is better than Blizzard’s classic.

mega lagged? The chinese were a pain no doubt, but classic lagged way more than nost or LH ever did.

Classic TBC is such a failure, i have completely lost all will to play it after the cash shop.

Also there are way less people playing TBC, it seems like retail players are the only ones who care.

My feelings exactly. Feels like most of the original target were completely put off by the micro-BS, and the retail players started to invade TBC…which is probably why so many people on reddit are in favor of the boosts and the tokens and so on.

Not surprising though: so much money to be made this way.

and that translates in the hundreds of thousands of subscribers… how?
most of the “new” people in subreddidts are the screaming immature man-child basement dwellers with the “no changes” and “mah game” mentality. Good riddance i say.

You must not be an OG TBC player. Most of us who legit played vanilla and vanilla TBC ARE dad gamers now. So you are either young or hopped on the WoW bandwagon really late.

3…2…1… GO now

You’re not Activision’s target demographic. At least if their publicity trailer is anything to go by. Your place in their corporate American leftist retcon of medieval European culture is in the stocks.

Don’t make posts about private servers you will get a forum ban.

No you won’t.
And it’s thanks to private servers that we got this mess called classic to begin with.
