The private server scene subreddit tripled in terms of frequentation since the tbc launch

I only wanna say that I am having so much fun and my friends too are having so much fun, my guild is having fun, lots of strangers around me which I meet through pugs are also having so much fun.

I don’t remember ever seeing so many people having so much fun from a computer game as so many ppl seem to have out of TBC.

Also seeing TBC in 4K is so glorious, I played TBC original in 1024X768 on a Pentium 4 Dual Core and an AMD mobile GPU.

Thank you Blizzard for giving us TBC servers and also thank you to the original TBC team.

Here’s a wild idea: people who can’t join retail for various reasons had their interest sparked by Classic TBC release (watching Twitch and stuff) and went on a private server to give it a try.

Oh, wait, it’s all doom and gloom around here, my bad.

I still giggle every time though xD

Guys are you get $$ for suchs posts?

I mean I saw a lot of them on reddit too, and they all look same. Like ‘Thanks for smoothest launch ever!’ post near ‘AOE Abilities and totems do not work in dungeons most of the time’ with ‘WARNING: Greens does not work!’.

Don’t understand ppl who play on private servers, their communities are almost as toxic as retail’s.

As if people haven’t shown here for the past 2 weeks how welcoming and non toxic the classic community is. That was sarcasm btw.

Every time someone write this sentence, he gives proof that we have evolved from monkeys

What a nonsense, they forced you??? By gunpoint at your forehead?
Dont be ridiculous, if you dont approve new heading of the game, you somehow have the right to steal the version you like from rightful owner of the game?
Sure, You dont like new Toyota cars, so I have the right to go in their museum and steal their old model.
Cmon.

Was there any other way of playing Vanilla or TBC? None that I can think of, afaik. At what point am I supposed to care about what Blizzard wants? I mean, it’s not like I’d have played Retail instead if those servers weren’t an option. And there were enough ppl feeling the same that Blizzard eventually had to re-release Classic themselves.

This is not to say that Blizzard doesn’t have a legal right to do what they do, but where is the rational reasons for other ppl to refrain from playing on those PS if there’s no other version of the game available?

As to OP: I’m having the time of my life right now, and the last thing I have time to worry about is a few casuals with green Communal gear or a warpstalker mount - it’s actually funny that ppl would pay for a mount like that. I’d rather ride on a friggin Talbuk.

No, there was no other way, I didnt play it. Wanted, but still didnt.
Sure there is a rational reason - not being a thief is one.

That’s your own choice. I don’t see why others should do the same, personally. What stopped/should’ve stopped other people? Did they somehow make the world a worse place by not stopping?

No, it just made them hypocrites and thieves, no moral integrity at all
Stealing from owner and praise themselves as “classic community”, “loyal customer”, “old school fans”…
And above all, they show their real face by /spiting on people who bought something legally from owner while they were stealing from owner for years

This is where we disagree - not much the stealing part but the “owner” part.

First of all, property rights aren’t divinely-appointed natural rights. They’re economic rights distributed to achieve a certain social end. In the case of intellectual property, its main reason for existence is that, in its absence, there would be no incentive for businesses to invest in research and development as other businesses could appropriate the technology developed by it without sustaining the related costs.

However, for the same reason, abuse of property rights can and does lead to their loss in many legislations. For example, in the country where I live, if you don’t exercise your property rights over a good for a certain amount of time (generally 20 years) - such as in the case where a house you own was occupied by somebody else - you lose your right to own it, and the property right passes down to the occupiee (it’s called “usucapion”, look it up)

In this case, Blizzard has deliberately refused to allow players to play previous expansions for an inordinate amount of years. And no, I don’t consider it to be “the same game” just because Blizzard decides otherwise. I would be the first, say, to claim it’s wrong to pirate a copy of Diablo 2 when you can just buy it from Blizzard - but here we had a company that deliberately didn’t allow us to play with the game we wanted to. Forgive me, but I fail to see any economic reason why such a use of IP rights should be defended.

And before you claim “but the law…” I don’t give a damn about the law, per se. First of all, that’s American law, and I’m not American, so I feel under no moral obligation to abide by it. And second, while I respect the law in general, I do comply with laws even without the threat of sanction only if I can see social/economic/moral reasons for doing so - I don’t need to be threatened with punishment in order to refrain from punching somebody,f or example. But otherwise, if we’re talking about a law that I, after careful consideration, consider to be unjustified, I can and will disobey it if I consider the risk/cost of getting caught to be less than the benefit I get from disobeying it. That’s what any rational person would do.

You can fail to see anything about rights to an IP, that doesnt mean it does not exist, you just avoid it beacause it suits your goal.
Laws exist for a reason, being developed thru centuries, wont discuss that here. All I see here is opportunist without any moral integrity who will bend any laws and find any excuse just to get what they want.

Sorry but I’m not the kind of person who will just take a “there’s a reason, take my word for it” explanation. Especially not when I took my own time to give my own. So either give me a good reason beyond “but morals” or get lost.

What can be better reason than morals?
It is only thing that distinguishes human kind from animals.
But since you dismiss it as a value, I dont think we have anything further to discuss.

Stealing is when someone lose something.
What does activision loose if one play on pservers?

Have you ever considered that not everybody shares your same belief about what is morally right or wrong?

We didn’t evolve from monkeys we did evolve from primates though yes.

in your case was the Ace Ventura one
