The problem with the Hivemind mount restriction

I don’t have time to play WoW when most of my friends are playing. I barely manage to raid with them. My fiance doesn’t play, so I don’t spend long evenings playing with a significant other. I play WoW when I get the time - which is rarely when any of my friends are playing - and, as a result, usually have to rely on PUGs to complete a lot of the content.

One of the things I love about secret finding is the way it’s been rewarding players like me with long questlines that I can do by myself. It’s long, and it’s hard, and by the end of it, I’ve managed to accomplish a goal. The Lucid Nightmare, in particular, was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in WoW.

When I learned that the Hivemind mount involves grouping up at some point, I didn’t think a lot about it. Then it was announced that the group you team up with are the only people who can share your mount. So if you use a PUG and will never see those people again, sorry. No super cool Hivemind speed bonus feature for you. Even though I do have friends I can group up with to do this quest, it would be unfair on them, because we’re rarely online at the same time.

The thing about this restriction is it doesn’t punish people who didn’t put in the effort, it doesn’t punish people who didn’t put in the time, or people who don’t really care. It punishes people who already feel lonely in WoW. And that’s straight up nasty.

Make a restriction that everyone has to have all four monocles. Make a restriction that everyone has to do some extra attunement quest. Anything, I don’t mind, as long as it’s effort based. Honestly, the restriction that passengers had to have the mount as well was MORE than enough. But making the restriction something we can’t control, something that already hurts us all by itself (not being able to play with friends 90% of the time SUCKS ALREADY) just feels so horrible.

Reconsider. Please. Don’t punish me for something I can’t even control.

I’ve actually got a few suggestions about what they can do with their “Hivemind”. I can’t say them, though, I’d get banned.

It’s an ugly mount anyway and half of Boralus where using them yesterday so it’ll get old quick.

Sucks when stuff demands group play though. Some of us are socially a bit awkward and making in-game friends takes time. Ever been at a work event and heard the words “now, partner up for this next bit” :face_vomiting:

If they made one optional additional step where you need group to aquire that hivemind passive but you can get normal squid mount without this step it would probably make lot of people happy …

But hey its MMO game so what do you expect …

It is THE HIVEMIND!

Hive = A group

Me and my gf did it together and we love it, just a 10% increase but we have fun with it.

This game is a MMO game, so a mount that you can have a small benefit with your closest friends is really a nice MMO addition.

This has to be one of the dumbest restrictions they’ve ever placed on something, surely? The majority of people who want this are going to pug it and likely never see the people they did it with in game ever again. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the updated information as to why random people couldn’t hop in.

Group quest chain mount complains? What the hell am i reading? Aren’t FH, Underrot, KR mounts ‘group mounts’ as well? And they are not even 100% chance :stuck_out_tongue:
So please… Don’t be envy because someone has an ugly mount… trust me it’s more rewarding my Swift White Hawkstrider from MT or the White mustang, or Attumen’s mount :stuck_out_tongue: and it doesn’t need a group.

You can repeat that ritual with new group of people and it will replace that previous group.

They said it would make this mount mandatory update, so now it will be mandatory only for premades …

Yeah I saw that but it’s still stupid. Their reasoning is that the mount becomes mandatory because of the speed buff and that’s why the restriction is in place but for my mind it makes more sense to disable the speed buff if the people are different and let it be a normal mount that carries 5 people.

Even a restriction of only people who have the mount can jump into someone else’s is better than “only if you solved the puzzles with them”.

On a plus note, best PvP mount ever. Get 5 of you in it, and you can chase down anyone. 0 chance of escape lol.

Exactly.

All that the mount is not obtainable solo means for me is that I am not going to try to obtain it. It seems doubly bad because following complex and varied sequences of steps like the one involved in getting this mount is exactly the type of content that I enjoy. But since part of the sequence requires a group, I won’t do it and will ignore the entire sequence.

(And, just by the way, I don’t care that “this is an MMO” and I am very far past the point of attempting to explain about why this stupid pseudo-argument does not work.)

I skip IT too its not worth it

Surely it makes sense that a hivemind would only operate if you were all part of the same hive and not total strangers??
TBH Im glad of this restriction as its going to make it more exclusive…also I dont have to be quite so freaked out seeing tons of internal organs flying about attached to squishy tentacles.

You people are severely overestimating the difficulty in getting the hivemind mount. Half of it is doable solo, then its the beam event, kitty petting event. platform puzzle and finally the flying disc puzzle.

This really sucks if you bought the mount from a seller or went with a pug group. People might not have done it that way if they had known in advance.

I did mine with a group of friends but I have seen on twitter saying they’ve done it in M+ teams or for BGs etc.

It’s not about the difficulty. It’s about that not all of the process is soloable. It’s either all soloable or not all soloable, it’s a boolean switch. In the “not all soloable” position some stop being interested. I think the proportion of such folk is big and growing.

Is this a character based restriction or an account wide restriction? Does anyone know?

Really? If five people came together to enter an international quiz or riddle solving TV gameshow and each won a car as a prize would it make sense if the organisers said “only you five can ride in these cars, nobody else is allowed to get in the car”?

Agree with this… still fits the ‘Hive Mind’ concept.

I’m guessing it’s on the character you did it on but I don’t know. Will have to experiment later.
