Some of you might remember be for the popular “TOO MANY VOID ELF RPERS” thread. After I made the thread, I had a lot of people write to me personally, thanking me for having brought attention to a subject they also felt strongly about. In recent months however I’ve had many of those same people write to me regarding another issue also regarding void elfs…
So now I unfortunately have to make a new post… My prediction regarding the Void elf rp population thankfully proved to be wrong! But now we unfortunately have yet another “new” problem regarding Void elf rpers. How do people find it acceptable lore-wise for void rpers to rp as basically humans? I mean how is it considered normal in SW for void elf rpers to have “human” names like Charles/william Cunningham and not be called out for this? It’s not just cringe af it also goes against the lore of the race. Please do not allow this to continue and help me call them out for it!
This has been a long-standing complaint for a while. Not just for void elves, but night elves, draenei, lightforged, and despite not playing Horde side I’d be surprised if the same isn’t true for nightborne and blood elves too, although I obviously hope to be wrong.
Ultimately the only thing to really be done about it is to just ignore them a lot of the time, because I don’t feel as if they don’t know as much as I feel they often don’t care. They want to play ditzy, quirky characters a lot of the time that are essentially just tall humans and that’s kind of that - although I can’t say I’ve seen them take human names before, that’s a new one.
Generally speaking though I don’t think most people acknowledge elves to behave like this. Most people when talking about elves will rely more on how they act as NPCs than how this particular part of the playerbase acts. To me, regardless of how many cutesy Harley Quinn-esque ren’dorei are out in Stormwind, my characters will always regard them as refined, unsettling, and perhaps dangerous. No matter how many night elves just hang around Stormwind doing /giggle at everything and anything that moves, my characters will always refer to the kaldorei as a tragic race, or a bloodthirsty race, or however else you can interpret the night elves following the events of BfA.
I think that’s probably the best we can realistically hope for.
Oh, you should of seen how the void elves reacted leading up to patch 8.3. I was town crier during that time, reporting on an increase in void activity and it just had people screaming ‘racist’ at me.
It was hilarious to watch these people whisper me or completely break character about how ‘racist’ I was towards void elves.
If it’s the one I’m thinking of, I think the idea of the Discord was purely for void users who don’t have nefarious intentions, which is why I personally left on Obahar here because I was debating having him go towards more of a villain arc, but it never actually panned out.
That isn’t to say the Discord’s mentality isn’t above critique, but I believe that was the intention it had all the same. If it’s the one I’m thinking of. If it’s another, then basically disregard all of this.
Whaaat? People breaking the lore, ruinning the immersion and enjoyment of others just to “roleplay” their self inserted OCs? That would never happen, surely.
Don’t worry, they’re getting a “soft removal” by effectively being replaced by the community for high elves come Shadowlands. Honestly, it’s just a messy situation. All the blood elves who conveniently made their characters void users so they could go Alliance, just to get the high elves they always wanted three years later.
