So i see all the time people complaining about pvp being neglected by Blizzard and what not and a reason i never seen brought up is that the better PVP players destroyed the game mode.
I used to pvp 90% of my game time up until BFA. Im kinda mid sitting at 1900-2k at best, but when you que Arena and every 3rd game you are mismatched facing some pro gamer boosting someone else or just dropped their rating to “have fun” facing easier opponents.
So you think Raiders would like to raid if every 3rd boss they went up against all of the sudden had 50% higher difficulty for no real reason?
Noone enjoys being farmed for some better players “just wanna have some fun” pleasure and will eventually quit. Players fail to realize they are part of a community, its everones responsability to make the scene nice and non toxic.
Ive stumbled on this in other games aswell like Overwatch and its equally bad there. People having multiple accounts just do they can “play with friends” and all other dumb excuses.
Its really like some MMA fighter goes into a kindergarten knocking out 7 kids in a roundhouse kick, screaming he is pro and just wanna have some fun. The kids will surely walk out of that space…
I really dont see how Blizzard could fix this in a good way since people always find ways around it.
I dont need and condoleances or pity for quitting pvp. I found my enjoyment in M+ instead, i miss pvp, but its not worth it going into the pit again. Been out of pvp for like 6 years now and i know many people feel like i do about this
There is always going to be someone better than you. Just because someone is better, they shouldn’t be punished for it.
Sure Blizzard could work on these systems, but it doesn’t mean they will always work. We’ve seen them try to resolve this and people get around that restrictions and then the system fails etc.
If you want to get better at PvP, then threatening to quit won’t get you any further at improverment.
The last time i PVP’d was in cata and that was a nightmare in baradin hold. I never did arena but faced high resilience teams at times and that was an instant loss.
People seem to forget that back in cata to win, all you had to do was to drop cash. You would then get your high resiliience gear to make up for your lack of skill. The gear would keep you alive longer to deal with little pesky people who did not drop money down.
One single guy could hold a fort in baradins hold against whomever came. Most of the time it was little peons like me who just played for fun.
Well, it stopped being fun at that point seeing 4 individual people holding off 20.
You clearly dont understand how learning and progression is done. A fair comparison would be to all raiders start on Mythic. All m+ers start at +15. Woule they learn anything to get better or just quit?
Apply it to anything in life. you dont learn anything by facing someone who is twice as good. You learn by facing someone who is slightly better.
Good players should not be punished no, but they should also not be able to que up against alot less good players just to farm them
The only way to save PvP is to make it more casual and give it more rewards. The focus on PvP being competitive and skill based will only ever kill it because the skill ceiling through knowledge and practice is very high, and losing isn’t fun, so players never get to the point where they can enjoy it enough to get good and they quit.
For there to be any hope for PvP, it has to almost abandon the rating based focus and go back to an effort/participation focus. You only had to see how popular random BG’s were in Classic Vanilla to see how this works.
Not really, guy’s got a point, it’s a bit stupid when 50% of your games at 1800 are against R1s, althought that was a much bigger problem in Shadowlands and was much less of a problem in DF.
They could easily fix 90% of all boosting issues by adding some kind of rating decay for everybody above 1800 who doesn’t actively play. That’d make everybody who got boosted drop again without sitting on that rating till the end of the season and “stealing” someone else that rank who doesn’t get boosted.
Sure, it wouldn’t fix the issue entirely but it would make the ladder much less deflated and much easier to push for casuals.
Also add more rewards, especially to 2v2. 2v2 feels completely dead above 2,1k because it doesn’t reward anything compared to other brackets.
Blizzard went in the wrong direction many years ago by introducing Arenas
Sadly enough the world cant handle mass pvp so it all got instanced into BG and Arenas
I played alot of world pvp back in Vanilla - its was fun and players mentality was not about being the best and have full pvp to engage
Back then level 20’s came to Tarren Mill just to do world PvP with guildies
If they could/can make world pvp with some rewards (like killing king in Stormwind) world pvp could be a thing again
I have never been a particuarly big fan of instanced pvp - not enough spontanous stuff
Dragonflight introduced world pvp gear for blood ehich was a nice and cool thing to add - id like to see Blizzard expand alot towards world pvp/goals and oppertunity for top rewards for top difficulty PvP raids
Anyways WoW is in a weird spot with PvP catering alot to those elite PvPers for some e-sport reasons
The mpst fun ive had in PvP has been teaming with randoms and trying to overcome the difficulty we had
Teamwork/social behavior required
But this generation of gaming feels to be alot focused about “mememe”
Anyways - Hope Blizzard can come up with some cool/fun/epic PvP
dude you just gave a pve example to your pvp problem, seriously… When you meet pro players it’s a consequence of nobody playing PVP and only those who sacrifice their life to it still stay.
You’re assigning too much blame to the players when the matchmaking system is pretty bad.
Blizzard needs to start looking at account-wide/cross-bracket mmr. It sucks playing a new character in pvp and coming across players who are clearly far less experienced than you, or going into a different bracket at a much lower rating when you’ve gained experience with a class and just steamrolling people for 10 matches.
I don’t enjoy PvP in this game because there are too many stuns and other abilities that render the character unable to act. Standing there like an idiot and getting killed is not fun, so I don’t do it.
I’m also not good enough for PvP, so I stick to mid-level PvE (heroic raiding and M+ 10-14s so far).
The way to save it is to match glads and legends etc together and let casuals in another group. What I mean is you are multi glad player and you want to have some fun smashing pugs at 1600? You cannot because at 1600 you will be matched against a multi glad too.
Of course must be some refinements. You cant impose this at the start of the season, you do it when the main is already glad in this season and he just wants to relax at 1400 with his alts against casuals…
Well the point is he cant relax by destroying the game of the casuals.
No, the design of PvP is what’s destroying the game mode.
The game is designed around stopping the opponent from playing the game. And some classes are A LOT BETTER at that than others.
It needs to change. I played to almost 2.3k during DF and I’ve never been so tilted as when a rogue focuses me and just stops me from playing my character. They need to just nerf it all to the ground so you can actually play the game, if they can’t hit your cast with an interrupt they shouldn’t be able to stop it endlessly. They should have to eat it to their face.
One way to fix it is to have an accout wide rating. One who is consistently gladiator through the seasons shoud never be put against who joined the game in SL or DF even though they have the same character rating bc the Gladiator got a new alt to boost someone or just to win easy games or get the queue to pop.
It sucks because many pros do It because they just want to get the queue to pop so its not really their fault but blizzard. But maybe if they didnt make pvp and get high rating so unpleasant, punishing, frustrating and gated more people would be willing to stick with pvp and more people would get to higher brackets so those people dont have to create low mmr alts just to get queues
Still, i see half of the problematic people are in this thread. “no skill” “pve problem in pvp” bla bla. When people are purpusly dropping their rating to fight easier opponents i think is a huge problem. It would be like Mike Tyson went into kindergarden saying he is a 4 year old and wanting to brawl with the other kids then 1 roundhouse kick and he wins.
so YES its a player problem, because if there is an exploit, people will use it (dropping rating) Its not illegal by any means, alot of things in life are legal but totally shiet to do, but people dont have any morals in game, they just want fame and gold but dont see the long term community
