The reason behind silence in group content?

It you turn back the clock all the way to Wrath, Pugs were quite social then. I still remember when LFG was introduced and had great times.
The problem is that the pacing of the game changed, or maybe it’s the fact that the game is 20 years old and people have tired of doing the same Dungeons for the 200th time, so they breeze though the content with as little interation as possible.

I think it’s important to try and see dungeons for what they are… since this isn’t Classic where a dungeon is meaningful, and interacting is mandatory.

Retail WoW is now made up of a new type of players, who are attracted to “single player MMOs”, where the focus is on the “content”, and not on the “socialising”. :slightly_smiling_face:

A great example is FF14, which has “socialising and story” being the main hook that attracts players to that game. But WoW however is a theme park… most people play WoW to push content, or to collect things.

And because of that you WILL encounter mostly players who aren’t actively seeking out “socialising”. :man_shrugging: at least when you do pug content, where you won’t see those players ever again.

So you can continue to be polite when joining groups, and hope to get a reply from other people who likes to socialise… but don’t go into a dungeon expecting it. :slightly_smiling_face: People SPAM dungeons CONSTANTLY because of how Retail is designed, and I don’t blame them for not responding…

So you gotta be self aware about the game you are playing.

Why would anyone would be social around players what you will never see again? There is no player reputation or any benefit to try to talk to other players. You can thanks lfg, lfr, crossrealm and sharding for that. Yep having covinience is for price. But you all supported all these systems.

talking in lfg groupfinders has felt like wasted effort since introduction in wrath
you are never going to see the people in that group again likely

I have made plenty of friends by random dungeon queues. Including in getting into a community too. It is your choice you do not want to see again those players you random group up with.

2 reasons I dont ‘talk’ in dungeons.
Firstly Im a slow typer and cant type and play at the same time.
Secondly, fear of getting kicked. Because people will kick you for being sociable! Ive been kicked a couple of times for daring to defend unjust kicks againest other people so now I keep my mouth shut unless I get good vibes from everybody.

I would not exactly call FF14 a social MMO. It caters way more to those who prefer soloing with most important story content locked behind solo instances, while dungeons you can do with bots.

Even in dungeons there the group mainly just says “Hi” and “Bye” during the entirety of a dungeon, and most tanks are mass pulling as much as possible there as well.

The game’s main selling point is the story, really.

Tbh by the time I’m out of the loading screen, the tank already pulled half the first room.

what a bad tank, shouldve pulled up to the first boss already.

Hehe it does happen on some dungeons

Sorry Oak TW dungeons are for fast XP and reward. You wont find many wanting to do them properly, besides they have been nerfed so hard they barely resemble what the instance was like.

You may find a close resemblance to how it was in the leveling instance Q but I doubt it

It’s a bit similar to being on the London underground. Communication is frowned upon. It seems that talking is slacking. A response to a “HI” is always nice.

Same here, I drop in and give a ‘hi’ and…

…then (as a tank) have to dive into the first room, to save all the DPS who’ve already pulled. :stuck_out_tongue:

Why are you so sure that you will *never" see those people again? If you would read the names and remember, you would know it’s actually wrong lol. I’ve had this happened many times.

I think a lot of people are a little scared. The account action system is very automated now and people do abuse it, but if you don’t ever type anything you can’t be reported for inappropriate communication. Clever, right?

This is the back side of the coin. If you clamp down on negative, you run the risk of clamping down on all language when people simply aren’t sure if what they want to say will be received positively

Timewalk is just the usual random content. Enter, kill, leave.

Most social interaction that I experience is either in random raids (LFR and normal) or low-mid m+ keys. Things that take some time but aren’t too hard.

And I do think that “hi” is not a conversation starter or anything. Most conversations usually start with someone making a situational joke. I don’t really see that a lot in LFG, except for having some weird groups like 4 DK and a… “healer”. But, well… I don’t feel like talking about the weather in random groups. If there is nothing special about that group that pops out within a run, there’s nothing to talk about.
Especially since some people could easily be offended. I mean… Yesterday I told my healer to blame any bad performance on the (devastation) evoker for not buffing enough. The group was having a good time after that, but some people could’ve gotten upset. Especially since we kept that going and blamed the healers fails on the evoker (also praised him for the healers good performance).
