The reason why I hate raid finder

It isn’t the difficulty, it isn’t the lack of experienced players. No.
One simple thing:
Being joined in to an instance that is in progress.
Imagine the situation: I queue for raid finder because of the weapon from the first boss. I wait 30 minutes as DPS only to be invited for the last boss. This is of course waste of time for me, because the boss can’t offer me anything good. So I immidiately leave and I get punishment to wat 30 minutes only to queue for another 30 minutes and hope that this time I will be lucky to be joined for the boss I want to kill… Plain stupid…

Fix? Just give me an option to not join instance in progress. Give me notification “1/3 bosses killed” when joining and option to refuse it without losing my position in a queue.

yeah I agree with OP.

Then how would you feel if you were in a group waiting 3 bosses in for new players, and they are all refusing to join? Means you are stuck there at that boss because nobody new will be coming in!

How is it different from the situation where half of the newcomers just leave, because they don’t want to bother with boss that drops nothing for them?
I am sure that there would still be players that would join. Maybe they want just the third boss and they would be glad to skip the first two.

Forcing players in to something that they dont want to do + keeping them away from the thing they want to do is stupid idea.

So you would rather be sitting in a group waiting for new players, who won’t be coming in because they want to start at the beginning of the raid?

All that is going to lead to is people leaving the raid because they can’t wait any longer!

Ah you’re sure players would join are you? No, the whole point of this discussion is people not wanting to join 1/3 in, you did read the thread didn’t you?

Yes I am fine with that. Demand and supply rule… If there is not enough players, who want the third boss (which will never happen btw.), then there will be no third boss. Why the game should force another people to join for that only because of you? It works the same through the whole game. If nobody wants to go +2 mythic key. There will be no +2 run… Ez pz.
But guess what? The game doesn’t force another 4 people to join you.

But the main point is. That there will always be people who would join.

If every run was like this, then there would be demand for the last 1/3.

It used to give you that, but then it all crumbled because people didn’t want to join started groups, so they hid it.

I think though, maybe it is time to allow queueing for spesific bosses? Just make it clear that you can queue for multiple at the same time(I’d think some would have missed that option).

Every run isn’t like this though is it, because if it was, then nobody would be leaving the raid until it’s completed!

Then maybe the solution is to give players something worth staying? Look at the third wing of Dazar’alor. If you stay to kill Jaina, you will get chance for GMOD…
Nicely handled

Just a side note: On this character, I have 7/9 LFR because every possible week I was joined only for the last boss  It was Jaina… so I did not mind. But yeah,
I cannot imagine what would I do if I wanted something from Mekkatorque… Then I would be praying for RNG… Just like now, when I want to gear my alt…

the problem is, that the system, as it is, creates an endless loop of unhappy players…

  • player A gets into a 3rd boss group
  • A kills the 3rd boss and queues again
  • A kills the 1st and 2nd Boss and leaves
repeat with player B, because player A left…
in the end, everyone is annoyed no one wants to bother anymore

They did that in MoP then found it was incredibly hard to refill raids. So they stopped notifying us of what we were joining.

the queue system leaves something to be desired i have joined plenty of lfr tiers after an hour i get put into a group with only one tank. alright if its from the start , then most bosses are solo tankable. but joining a qeueu just having to wait another hour in the raid itself because there are still tanks missing shouldnt happen. on some bosses people shouldnt be able to get teleported in unless there are enough of the important roles ( enough tanks and a decent amount of healers)

But what i hate the most about lfr is the fact nowadays you get begged for every single item that drops. im doing lfr for transmogs, augment runes and enchanting mats. If you get an item to drop you will get like 10 whispers saying"U NEED!?!?" and then when you say no people will either try to guilt you by saying " but you dont need it im only so low ilvl :((((((((((" or will start calling me an ssshole among things for not giving it.

Also if you ask to roll for an item most of the people rolling actually dont need the item but want it out of greed

I’d be more willing to give it to others if they ask ina normal polite way, sadly the very few rare occasions this happened it also was a transmog i still needed instead of just for disenchanting

I agree, but to implement the option given by the OP would, in my opinion, not solve anything, but make it worse. Whereas now, only one player would leave the raid and leave one space, if the raid was left waiting for an extended time, and finally disbands, then you have any number of players stuck on 1/3 or 2/3.

for me, It happened when we died to opulence, 3 times because healers didn’t know which gem to pick.

Fun times.

Imagine the situation: I queue for raidfinder because of the weapon from the last boss. I wait 30 minutes as DPS to be placed in a fresh raid. We down the first boss and half the raid leaves because they got their weapon from the first boss.
I wait 30 more minutes because everyone wants to queue for a fresh raid instead of this bullcrap… Plain stupid…

BTW.: If you kill the last 2 bosses of that wing, you will 100% get placed in a fresh raid if you queue again.

Just suck it up, do the last boss and re-queue

I think the suggestion of showing how far through the raid a group is before you join is good.

Plus, remember people do it for different reasons. Some people might want boss 2 or 3 and would be ecstatic. Others like me only do it when there is a bonus for my role, so joining partway through is even better. Yes it might take a little longer to fill certain spots, but there isn’t usually a shortage of people.

The problem is, when it was done in MoP it wasn’t a “little longer”…

I can completely agree it is annoying not to get a fresh run, but it is also annoying waiting for a long time to refill the players that left after the 2nd boss because the item they needed from it didnt drop and they did not want to continue to bosses with no loot for them. You wait and wait and wait…

It’s one of those spock moments… “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few”

I think the answer is to put a more meaningful reward for the full completion of a raid section. At the moment the reward is pitiful. Something like a random LFR gear item from (from one of the bosses in that section) should be rewarded for full completion. Like a bonus roll for full completion, once per week.

Now I am usually against giving out gear willy nilly (see other threads) but a few extra pieces of LFR quality gear every week is not going to make or break the game.

A good point. I wonder, just throwing this out there…

If rather than having boss loot tables, there was a raid table… so the item you want has a chance to drop from any boss… would this alleviate the issue, would it be well received by the community for all raid difficulties? I think it probably would but interested in opinions.
