I think it’s just the power we got as the game evolved. Back then we would still rely on our auto attack and no we have loads of spells and abilities that wreck everything. We’re massive power houses and yearn for the high gear score.
Can’t have toxicity without interactions, and there’s barely any interactions to begin with.
(Stressed out “gogogo”-dpsers/healers that pull before the tank does isn’t toxic, it’s just annoying.)
I tend to /greet, /bye and “gg” in LFR and TW Dungeons, but generally speaking, no one says a word and just leaves once the instance is completed.
(Exceptions do happen; The other day I accidentally ran off the ramp leading up to the ship in DM and landed in the water right after a big pull, which caused 10+ mobs to yeet right past the rest of the party on their way down to me in the water below, which seemed to amuse the rest of my party.)
Is the WoW-community toxic? No, because I’d be hard pressed to even call it a community, but it’s been that way for years (outside the forums that is).
I think people forget that the so called state of the community is also just a reflection of the state of society. Cause everything in society got so much more focussed around instant gratification and dopamine cycles. 20 years ago, you could sit in public transport and you did not have a view where everyone is sitting on their phones the whole time.
Tiktok, Instagram, but also the news cycle is so focussed on grabbing our attention and with that our dopamine system just changed for a lot of people. I have a bachelor in Media and due to this, I have some things in place for myself to step away from this all. I don’t check tiktoks or stories and I barely check into the news, heck I even check my phone 2-3 times a day and that is about it.
Now for WoW itself, if we look at Vanilla compared to how World of Warcraft is today. Everything is just so focussed around a treadmill and continuous gratification, where it seems a lot of people aren’t satisfied with the game if there isn’t an upgrade or achievement bound to the activity people are focussed on.
However, the biggest solution here is two folded, or at least for myself. One, I set myself achievable goals for myself as getting KSH and Ahead of the Curve and setting a gear level that I would like to achieve during the season. Two, I do not play the game with strangers, but I am part of a community that is likeminded or at least respects my view and my playtime. At the end of the day I just want to play with my friends, cause this makes the game 10 times more fun and it also results in the fact that I can keep myself away from unwanted friction between people who play the game differently.
Even on the forums, it is sometimes so obvious with the frustration that people have towards the game, and in my opinion this often comes from the fact that there is not healthy boundaries of people towards the game. Now this isn’t something new, this was even something that existed in the beta version of the game.
So simple answer short: If you really want to stay away from the so called ‘toxicity’ within the community, play with a likeminded community, and if you do end up with people that you do not know and you notice some ‘toxic’ behaviour, react with a ‘Daddy Chill’ and just move on with your day.
When you look at this game there is very few people doing random casual stuff
and more people trying to play m+ and raids
I met a lot of people with no skill or knowledge about their class or a dungeon they want todo
but they knew that gingi is doing this and that
and when they failed in RANDOM group of people where gingi was not found or meeres wasn’t there he became mad and flamed
So i basically blame the streaming community for this cause nowadays even the player that just saw one RTWF and started playing wow is talking about what METHOD is doing what echo is doing
they do not have their own opinions they just spreading what they saw like kids
it’s shame
For example LOL when you look at ARCANE is so good lore and all that it will makes you consider playing Leauge of legends
and when you actually starts playing game is bad for a average player
and then those players are like why is my game not like for example JANKOS games?
why is my team doing this and that
it’s like celebrities living in a perfect world beautiful and then a girl is like why am i ugly?
or why am i poor when you see a Tik tok and there everybody is flexing with their money and all that
World is FUNNY nowadays
I needed this vent xD
I just gonne come out and say it, what really needs to happen.
Blizz needs to make simming and the data mining of numbers impossible, remove weak auras and damage metres.
Make it so hard it would almost be impossible to find what is the meta, the build of the week or whatever. Metas ruin any game it touches, it drains the fun and thought out of anything.
Due to dumb metas you get people complaining about racials that gives you a 0.4% boost in what ever, and people get angry cus now you have to change to a dwarf to be the best or what ever.
Lets be real, almost no one in this game is so good that this 0.4% boost in what ever makes a difference.
Metas make people toxic, it is numbers over fun or intresting playstyles.
But sure, if people want to follow the matas, blizz can make so rated content all has the same gear, stats and abillities. Make the rest of us that like the open world have fun with crazy racials and silly abillities.
Make forsaken take 100% increased damage from light but be immune to poison damage.
Lean into more unbalanced and fun stuff!
Lean into the RPG side of an mmorpg, remove all portals and teleports that are static in the world. Mages can still do porting, and give druids the abillity to move through the dream.
Return ammo to hunters. (Ammo usage in mythics and pvp can be turned off)
Return the ahnks for the shammy,
Poison skills for rogues.
Needing a light feather to use slowfall for mage.
Make it a game, not a menu simulator.
Thanks for your time, big love.
“Smooth run, nicely played. Wanna do more, now or later?”
Sure, would be fun
“Mind if I add you to my friend list, so I at least have one good [dps/healer/tank] to count on?”
Voila…
That’s just online games public groups in general nowadays, but it this season being a total mess also doesn’t help it.
At this point the community is probably too far gone to expect anything different anymore from pugs. We can thank Blizzard for that.
That’s literally toxic behavior.
Yes, not entire, but yes, it is.
That’s true.
I see it every day on the streets. People are rushing everywhere. Honking like crazy on one another. Yelling slurs, get mad for nothing, wanna fight constantly… It’s so sad. Yet, it’s just a result of their poor approach to the life. The life can be beautiful, if people learn to approach it correctly.
We talk about these issues often. And i think if we keep adressing toxicity from people in these dungeons runs, etc. We can still change that. We can teach these self centered, selfish, ignorant people to be respectful.
No. It’s not Blizzards fault. People for themselves decided to rush everything. Nobody forces them into that. You can go out there and enjoy every breath of game, with ease, slowly.
People are responsible for their decitions, not Blizzard.
It’s not 100% on Blizzard no but it’s their design choices that lead to this. They decided to push their competitive agenda and restructure the way they reward players removing time spent as a metric and moved to only rewarding difficulty done. Couple that with things like there being almost no reward for staying in an untimable key making people not give a crap. Why stay with strangers when it doesn’t give you anything? Can’t blame people for that.
No it isn’t!
Dude, why can i go out there, and play the game for over a month, before finishing campaigns, before finding out all treasures, all glyphs, finishing explorer and loremaster? Why can i go out there, reading stories, lore, npc dialogs? Why can i interact with people, have a good time, relax, and you can’t?
Stop blaming Blizzard, for YOUR OWN decitions!
Nobody forces you into anything! You people decide for yourself to rush content, nobody else!
I am really sick of people blaming company for their own decitions.
The hell does that have to do with anything? And now you’re just assuming things for me…
What? Dude, if you don’t know what else to add to topic, just drop it. You don’t always need to have a last say…
Especially in this topic, it’s very simple and straight forward. It’s not hard to understand where the issue lies.
I am sorry if it sounded that way. By “you” i meant you people overall, in general. People that does this mistake, rushing content.
It wasn’t aimed at you only.
It’s not about having the last say “dude”, it’s about wondering what you’re on about.
What does you enjoying non-competitive mostly solo content have to do with people being toxic in grouped content which is what the OP is about and what my reply was referring to. Which despite you claiming otherwise, Blizzard definitely had a hand in creating.
Because i am showing you, that it’s possible to enjoy game, without the need to rush content.
It’s you people who are deciding that on your own.
And it doesn’t matter what it is. Whether it is exploring the world, doing quest, or going through an instance like dungeon or delve.
You can relax and have a good time in anything. Nobody is forcing you into rushing it.
A Mythic+ Dungeon has a timer. That by its very definition emphasizes the time to complete the Dungeon in.
And by tying the reward to the completion of the Mythic+ Dungeon ON TIME the players are of course going to focus on the time aspect. That is by design.
A very lenient timer. Don’t wipe 10 times, or dont wait for bloodlust for every pack and you are in time.
A timer nonetheless.
Of course. M+ is for people, who wants some further challenge.
M+ is a small part of the game tho.
There are normal dungeons, heroic dungeons, mythic dungeons, delves, raids on all difficulties, there is world out there filled with quests, all kinds of encounters.
Nobody is forcing you into rushing all that.
You decide that for yourself.
Yeah the question is people want or have to stay in a dungeon for unlimited time. Somewhere people failed the challenge it is supposed to be.
