The toxic behaviour and the negativity is also a reason for the decline

Sometimes I watch WoW twitch streamers like Asmongold. For example, For example, I watched Asmongold when he reacted to Sloots interview with Morgan Day.

Even thou I don’t agree about everything Morgan said, I think some of the solutions are a step in the right direction. I have played WoW for a long time, so I think its natural that I don’t enjoy it like I used to. Shadowlands is not the best expansion (at least not so far), but its still fun enough for me to invest time in it.

But when I read the chat of some streamers I wonder why some of them play the game. Everything Morgan said was bad. Some people cry about class balance, and when Sloot asked Morgan about class balance, he got an example of a holy priest change. Asmon was like “who cares”. And the chat was filled with “true”, “true”. Some were acting like bullies and made remarks of how Morgan spoke and so on.

The toxic behaviour of the player base, both in game and on social media platforms is also one of the reasons why WoW is declining. Yes, the developers can do a better job in some areas to improve the game. But lets not pretend like its the only reason. For me, an important part of playing the game is playing with nice and friendly people. Far too often you meet toxic players, demoralizing others.

I don’t watch streamers or critics to judge the game. I just ain’t enjoying WoW anymore, and SL made me finally quit.

The management and hypocrisy of Blizzard was another factor for me to stop.

You’re just scapegoating…

Not all people. But many are acting like that.

This probably isn’t a popular opinion but I do agree with you. This isn’t the case with all streamers, but when it comes to Asmongold, he actually seems to be a really down to earth guy behind it all - but a lot of his followers do appear to be of the angry neckbeard sort - you know the ones I mean, they’re rife in pug raids.

Somewhere down the line the vast majority of players at large completely dropped the idea of showing any form of patience or consideration to other players. The only reaction they seem to understand is anger, I can only guess it’s because that’s all they’ve ever been shown towards them themselves.

Good luck functioning that way in society though.

Would be great if you didn’t get kicked from leveling Normal dungeons for breathing the wrong way.

So tired of M+ routes used in leveling dungeons where you’re supposed to level in a chill pace and leave hardcore mentality for the end game. This “go-go-go” mindset outside of end-content is extremely antisocial which leads to kick abuses and harassment.

Toxic behaviour is deterring returners and newbs alike because they cannot even have an enjoyable leveling experience because toxic elitists leave no room for mistakes.

And then they wonder why WoW is dying.

His viewers are people who do not play WoW and are looking for excuses why they shouldn’t be playing it. It’s an echo-chamber there that agrees the game is garbage.

I quit Warframe around 1,5 years ago. I’ve told so many of my friends it’s garbage. It’s not about them - it’s about me. I need to convince myself the game is garbage, because I kinda wanna play it again, but also I have an ego about it. So I cannot go back, because I don’t want to be sinking 5 hours a day there.

People who have quit WoW but still care are basically addicts suffering from abstinence. They are the main source of general negativity. These forums then parrot them for some reason.

There’s also the fact that not hating on wow makes you uncool, and there’s way too many studies about how the majority of people do not think, but instead go with the flow of accepted thought.

The entire “toxic” enviroment is something Blizzard themselves create by putting so much focus on player skill and making it matter how good or bad someone is. It goes hand in hand with being competitive. We’re both to blame really.

I find the atmosphere on my server (AD) to be much different and more pleasant from when I played on Draenor and I really notice how different people are whenever I join pugs and/or do random PvP - not everyone ofc as already pointed out above by Thanous.

The game being as old as it is doesn’t help either, people just assume you know everything already which I find myself doing sometimes too. The difference is I don’t go out of my way to degrade people which others unfortunantly do.

The game’s mechanics breed toxicity, especially M+ and how important it made rio. Rio is absolutely needed, but that doesn’t mean it contributes to a better playing environment. Ultimately, Blizzard took a system where you had to do your 7-8 dungeons a week and you were done and told you… nah, forget that. FARM INFINITELY! This is a mobile game now!

Do I really need to explain the difference between a community where you CAN only do doing 7-8 dungeons a week and a community where you’re encouraged to farm 7-8 dungeons a evening? Yeah…

People needed stuff to do, none would login on wow to be afk on main city waiting for raid to reset. Like on WOD.

Streamers only care about views, likes, an hits, as well as donations to their patreons. Negativity today = more views, likes, comments etc. So it pays to be negative. Anyone whos slightly positive about anything on social media or streaming is considered a shill, whether its for Blizzard or some other company and/or service.

I would not say that streamers are the reason for the decline in WOW, but I would say players have contributed to this as well. No one talks anymore, not even in discord, friending someone who helped you or you helped is usually declined, people would rather scream at others in dungeons and raids, instead of trying to teach someone.

In guilds you have cliques where only certain guild members will converse and work with others etc…The decline of social likeability has lead to an increase in toxicity in WOW and even in other games at times.

Being done for the week is good, though. M+ is incredibly bad for the long term health of the game and of the players. Having infinite grind systems in a game will contribute to burnout. Just look at what happened with AP farm in BFA. The infinite nature of M+ is why puggers are so awful and toxic. Why spend 40 minutes in a dungeon when you can get 2 dungeons done in that time with a better party? These things matter much less if you can be DONE for the week. It doesn’t matter if a dungeon takes 20 or 40 minutes - you only have 8 to do a week, so you’ll just get them done easily.

It’s the job of game designers to ensure players do not burn themselves out.

Players play how they want to play.

This is a lie.
Pugs raid are as toxic as m+
Try entering on a pug raid and miss one mechanic and you will have people calling you bad words and a kick after.

People simple don’t like wasting their time.

Of course. Because they have to get to running dungeons after. The game is constantly rushing you because you may miss out on something if you don’t. You can’t be chill - there’s dungeons to run! Stuff to do and not enough time to do it all in.

Of course the problem here is pugging in general, and how little resistance there is to pugs. This means the absolute dregs of the game go there. Those who no guild will have them. This is why some games put in place systems of resistance that only exist to filter players out. A good example is BDO costing 10 euro - it’s essentially a free game, but the 10 euro price exists to filter people out. Another good example is the $35 character copy fee for TBC Classic - the point is, and Blizz even said it, that they do not want everyone copying all their characters. The price exists solely to make you not do it.

The same should be done with pugging - remove LFD and introduce points of resistance. They will filter out the laziest and most awful players fairly quickly and then we will all have a better experience.

Even before Legion LFD was already today.

People simply don’t want to progress again. Imagine each week you try to raid the HC with pugs and it is like the first week where you can’t pass the first boss.

If I got curve and wiped 100 times with my guild on that boss, obvious I will not want go to pugs to wipe 100 times again and weeks.

Like a guy said on another post there are people who have limited time to play wow per week now imagine that player taking bad teammates all week, how will he not be toxic?

This is true. It’s kinda why pugs will forever be garbage and everyone insisting they can even be good is the definition of insanity. But the infinite farming system and the constant rushing the game puts the players under isn’t helping.

oh no, disaster…

Blizzard spits in our face (in regards to class balance) then say they’ll adjust 1 or 2 classes and “make changes where necessary” and you think players should be happy?

Thank you for the napkin to wipe your spit off my face m’lord.

Come on man.

should not take twitch chat reactions seriously, people just trolling/having fun there

i dotn think there are people who dont welcome balance changes that are actually trying to fix the game and its nice to hear that they are planning to work on it more often during patches, but its hard to believe because every answer we get from blizzard devs is we working on it, we are looking into it and the game is in the state it is now, its far away from being balanced and i dotn understand why they are not making changes to some classes/specs right now, even small fixes

bm hunter pets are still being stack on platforms on denathrius and the patch is 5 month old

holy priest was out of meta for way to long, people dont believe the changes they are making to it will make the spec viable, hense the trolling

ps: i understand why people dont trust them anymore
