The Tragic State of Brewfest

Hi all, I’d like to start off by saying these are not massive issues. I’m aware  This post is more of a post out of frustration for a game and event I hold close to my heart so please keep that in mind whilst i rattle off about some of my complaints :broken_heart:

Brewfest is one of my favourite memories of wow from back in the day, I fondly remember roleplaying with my school friends when we all used to play wow as a party of drunk dwarves in Brewfest with the music blasting and us all pretending we were drunk when in reality none of us had a clue what it was actually like to be drunk. I love this event and it’s one of the few events I look forward to and actively engage in to this day. Sometimes i randomly get the music stuck in my head when I’m working and it always makes me smile.

However, for the last few years this event has been completely neglected. It’s the first day of Brewfest today and I’ve already encountered the following;

  • Direbrew invasion event start, mobs get literally 1 banged by 1 ability (no exaggeration, then bug out and stop spawning. Everyone is just stood there “?” in /s and general wondering what’s happening. And then the event ends. Alternatively, if the event manages to spawn correctly then one mole machine spawns in, the mob gets decimated worse than a deer running out in front of an 18 wheeler and then the cog spawns on the floor with the NPC turn in quest saying “thanks for taking care of their lackys for me!”… like dude I just cast 1 raging blow on them it’s not that hard. (Basically no tuning for this event whatsoever)

  • Corin Direbrew is completely soloable and poses no challenge or enjoyment whatsoever, he disarmed me just as he died but outside of that just absorbed damage like a tired old punching bag.

  • Brewfest Chowdown introduction quest to participate in the Chowdown Challenge bugs out and doesn’t complete, causing you to have to drop the q, pick it back up and then retry in the hope that the game registers you are participating this time around.

  • Standing between the Brewfest chowdown event and the main Brewfest camp (where the Direbrew invade) Causes 2 instances of the Brewfest to play overlapping each other and out of sync making me feel like I’m having a stroke. (42.19, 17.76 coords to be exact)

  • Now this is ram racing… Almost. & There and back again Quest randomly dismounts you from the ram if you zone out in the wrong direction of the Brewfest camp or go too close to the invisible wall near the Brewfest Chowdown tent (WHICH IS RIGHT NEXT TO IT :joy:) causing you to of course, lose the damn barrel and have to do another trip to the NPC that throws one to you. The music then sometimes randomly switches back to Org music seemingly unaware that you are still in the Brewfest event until you finish the quest (I’m sure some of you love the org music but c’mon, Brewfest music is so good )

As I said, this isn’t going to kill the game. But I really feel like events like this were what made WoW so immersive back in the day and made it seem like there was always something happening in Azeroth. Now, it just seems like these days if it’s not M+ tuning or RWF news, Blizzard just do not care about any of the world they spent years creating or fixing the absolute riddle of bugs that are involved with it. I’m sure little things like having a couple of weak low level drunk NPCs loitering around the AH’s and banks that randomly start swinging at you if you go close to them shouting in drunken text that you need to keep your hands off their beer wouldn’t cause mass unsubs. You wouldn’t even need to kill them for all the pacifists out there, they could just stop at 1hp and apologise and go back to their drinking tables! We have the technology. :joy:

I won’t even mention that no noticeable new content has been added to this event in… quite some time now, and despite being a world event if you don’t actual go to the area where Brewfest is taking place then you could easily never even know it was a thing that was happening at all… and that, that makes me very sad.

Thanks for reading if you got this far, I’m not raging I’m just very disappointed that things like this are seemingly no longer of interest to Blizzard.

unfortunately they lately dropped all the old side activities different from main story and group content (and even here there are many problems).
Incredible they dont understand things like this are activities that always used to occupy people while waitin for new releases (patches usw).

I feel the same about the Hallow’s End event. Me and my friends used to be so stoked about the event, flying around in Azeroth gathering candy from buckets, farming the Headless Horseman’s mount, the spooky decorations around in main hubs.
Right now it just feels dull. Perhaps it is nostalgia speaking in my case, but

I’ts not, but it certainly doesn’t make it feel any more immersive. I personally really struggle to feel immersed in the game, and little holidays and events like this truly help. Plus, it’s fun content! I’m sure a lot of people will agree with that.
If they could update or add some more quests, items/rewards and such, I’m sure it could do a lot for the game.

Ok, but did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?

I really wish the Chowdown competition participation was granted through queueing rather than having to spamclick the chairs. This is where they should have learned from how great Trial of Style works.

This is a very important topic that is sadly never discussed enough. Also kinda sad how little activity this thread has.

These type of events are excellent EVERGREEN content that Blizzard should be spending significant more time on. Much rather have time spent on stuff like this than zones like Korthia that are only relevant for a single patch and then just never used again.

That being said at this point it honestly feels like Blizzard should just delete all the events and start over to provide actual meaningful content. It all just feels very off and not in tune with modern WoW in my opinion.

all those seasonal events should drop heroic raid difficulty lvl armor to force participation

unironically agree.

Like just go nuts and create a Grinch world boss in Booty Bay that drops heroic gear during Christmas or something. Can be killed every day for chance at loot. Like just go crazy.

I still look forward to hearing the horseman yell each year though

It’s not only Brewfest. All events have gotten worse and worse over the years, with bugs and oversights a-plenty and a lack of new content/rewards. The only one that’s still kinda decent is Darkmoon Faire for obvious reasons, but even that is quite buggy in some places.

I’d say it’s about time we took a ?.5 patch to overhaul all main events in the game so they’re up to date with todays quality.

With the bluepost a while back about the X-45 Heartbreakers ridiculous drop chance, I hope Blizzard is going to finally take a peek into these events and maybe look into overhauling them.

Deleting them is a bit extreme, however updating them and adding new fun things to do will certainly improve participation.

It will def encourage (not force) and no I don’t think HC gear but maybe normal gear would be good.

I’m really glad to hear the feedback on this as I was worried I was alone in feeling like world events in WoW have just not gotten the love they deserve for a long time now. For some reason it really hits close to home. A lot of good suggestions here, and that’s just scratching the surface of what’s possible :slightly_smiling_face:

I really like the idea of a big bad enemy that rewards relevant loot and promotes engagement that isn’t too disruptive to players who don’t want to participate (like the recent scourge invasion example or kazzak in SW) would be fantastic.

I really don’t feel it would be hard for the relevant WoW team to sit down and brainstorm some ideas to boost engagement, relevancy and overall enjoyment!

if i worked on this game, i would of had a events team… whose purpose was updating these events on a yearly basis, as well as inventing new events to add throughout the year.

seems like a missed opportunity to just leave them the same year in year out… and do nothing new to them

it is prime casual content… and nothing gets done about it .

Some new collectibles would be nice! Something new each year, even if it’s a cosmetic hat that costs 200 tokens. New colour every year and keep them as time passed.

Because I liked doing Brewfest, but there is nothing left to collect and I can’t justify time spent riding goats without anything tangible afterwards.

IMO all seasonal events should gain a recolour every year, and the vendor should have the sum of all recolours so that there’s MORE to collect every time.

That’s holidays in general I’m afraid.

I would like to see some new stuff added into these events
It was fun doing them for the purple proto drake
Add more cool toys,pets
add some theme armor for each one of them
Weapons too

I distinctly remember partying up with Sparkuggz for a little while whilst doing my noble garden achievements way back in the day for the purple proto drake. That was arguably the best time in WoW regarding holiday events everyone was engaged and enjoying the content as it should be.

Something along those lines again or even (I hesitate to say) seasonal mount rewards where you have maybe 1 meta mount reward every 2 years or so (1 is a bit punishing if you can’t make a certain holiday) would even be an improvement at this point.

At least its taking place now, the last 2 years were tough with covid.

Guys you should have seen last year’s Brewfest or the year before that year. The chowdown wasn’t fixed until like 4 days later lol. And the rest of the bugs lingered around.
