Higher ilvl track stuff is available from things like timewalking weekly boxes, as well as crafting.
It’s a tedious and fully unintended process but eventually you can reach 476 ilvl without ever stepping foot in a mythic dungeon or non queued raid.
That’s only part of it. I can have it faster already, but for that I need to run LFR every single week; something I do not enjoy. It’s a chore. That is my big gripe here.
I’d settle for the same amount of wyrm crests, but earnable through actual world content. It’s about ‘having’ to do content I don’t like doing.
And most big 3 players should be able to relate to that, because that was exactly their complaint in the last few expansions. Having to do content they don’t like.
And yet, some players act as if I’m just being entitled here. 
That’s just your subjective opinion on the matter.
You have no clue what the devs intend.
And I enjoy gearing up by doing content I like; so it’s not tedious to me.

I think just flightstones would have been fine, all the crests bar the crafting ones seem pointless and annoying.

Delves sound like the solution then, you wanting the ilvl awarded from content you do not do is not the solution. The solution is content that awards the ilvl you want that fits your narrow list of stipulations for content you are willing to do.
LFR doesn’t reward wyrm crests

It drops pity coins. With which you can buy stuff; among which wyrm crests.
You can be forgiven for not knowing about them, they serve almost no purpose.
I know about them. Again, a disingenous argument for something that isn’t feasible in any sense of the world. By the time you fully upgrade just one item, the next season and a new ilvl increment bump will be out. And it still doesn’t drop from vault, that’s just bending the truth a little to fit your argument.
Even then, it’s not a source that is of any remotely significant mention. Just the fact that those are wyrm crests and not aspect from a vault reward set of tokens is a joke in and of itself.
When you refuse to do Mythic+ or heroic raid it is significant because at that point it’s the only source. We’re only talking about people who only do world content because, again, that’s who the OP is.
Basically by the time you don’t need sockets or splintered spark shards from that vendor, there’s no shot you need wyrm’s crests at all.
Unless you never do content that awards wyrm crests and therefor these are the only ones you’ll get.
Topic isn’t talking about sources of wyrm crests though. It’s talking about the crest upgrade system. You’re way off-beat from topic.
They want to do content, as you say, that they do, while the upgrade system being a system they can actually engage with. It’s a world unfamiliar to you and I, but lets at least stay on track.
(I don’t mean to / wish to be argumentative with you btw, sorry if it comes off that way. I just sense this is a ‘yeah but I want to win the internet argument with some stranger’ moment, even if it requires moving the goalpost)
They can engage with the upgrade system, they have items they need drake crests to upgrade. What they want is upgrade currency from content they don’t do.
That’s fair, I’m genuinely not trying to make it this. Just Tahra and their posts which amount to “Give me heroic ilvl loot from world content” in one form or another have been a mainstay of the general discussion forums this expansion.
