The World of Warcraft 20th Years of Time Gate Anniversary Time Gated Event

Hi,

I will start by saying this, 60 tokens for the first tier 2 remastered set is absolutely outrageous. Based on wowhead you can get 13 tokens ONE TIME Reward, 17 tokens from Weekly Khaz Algar Activities and 18 tokens from Weekly Anniversary Activities. This equals to 48 tokens first week and then 35 tokens per week for the following weeks. T̶h̶i̶s̶ m̶e̶a̶n̶s̶ t̶h̶a̶t̶ y̶o̶u̶ c̶a̶n̶ g̶e̶t̶ 2̶ s̶e̶t̶s̶ p̶e̶r̶ m̶o̶n̶t̶h̶ g̶i̶v̶e̶n̶ t̶h̶a̶t̶ y̶o̶u̶ d̶o̶ a̶l̶l̶ P̶V̶E̶ a̶n̶d̶ P̶V̶P̶ w̶e̶e̶k̶l̶i̶e̶s̶ (̶I̶ c̶o̶u̶n̶t̶e̶d̶ 1̶8̶)̶.

Weeklies that reward tokens:

Celebrate Good Fun/ Timely Gate Crashers - lagfest world bosses that do not have a auto-LFG implemented, you have to search for groups and wait to get invited or to create your own.

Soldier of Time - Alterac Valley, but it is so laggy that you can’t call it a MMORPG, it is a Turned Based RPG. The 500 honor was painful to get to complete the quest and I waited in queue like 30 minutes.

Chromie’s Codex - queue so long (DPS) that I didn’t get to try it

Disturbance Detected: Blackrock Depths - queue so long (DPS) that I didn’t get to try it

(I queued all 3 weeklies in parallel, the BG popped first after 30 minutes, then queued for the other 2 weeklies and after 20 minutes I alt-f4’ed, I don’t have time to wait 50 minutes to get to actually play the game).

The Khaz Algar Weeklies are just a waste of time if you are already geared and some of them are so annoying that I don’t even do them, well too bad 17 tokens come from those, including a Queen Ansurek Kill that is also about 20 minutes of waiting in queue for LFR.

This is Blizzard’s attempt to bring back players to subscribe for a couple of months through FOMO manipulation. They said that the rewards will be back but when exactly and in what form of twisted grind or time gate you will be able to get them? They absolutely learned nothing from the Remix event which was still a grind but at least you could get all rewards if you kept playing.

I would be ok, not happy, to be able to get 2 T2 sets per week at least starting from week 1 i̶n̶s̶t̶e̶a̶d̶ o̶f̶ 1̶ e̶v̶e̶r̶y̶ 2̶ w̶e̶e̶k̶s̶.

It would be better if the players can choose what activities to do, e.g the weeklies reward more tokens but you are limited to a number per week (same as season cap which increases). Not everyone likes to PVE, not everyone likes to PVP, not everyone likes to complete world quests, etc. There should be a choice.

Thank you.

EDIT (thank you Gorrak for the token discount reminder):

What I said above is not entirely true. If you do absolutely all weeklies, it would take 2 weeks to get the first set, 1 week for the second and then you can get 2 per week if you complete the “ungated tokens” too. ( It is amazing to me that they shamelessly named them “ungated tokens” in the post or having weeklies called “Timely Gate Crashers”, it is not funny to pay a subscription and then to wait 1 week to progress).

Event Link:

After the first set purchase at 60 Bronze Celebration Tokens you’ll earn the achievement Upgraded Apparel and the second set purchase will lower to a cost of 40 tokens. Purchasing a second set will earn the achievement Classy Dresser which lowers the cost of additional sets to 20 tokens.

After players collect their first 100 tokens, their Warband will unlock ungated tokens which will drop from the following activities:

Blackrock Depths Raid Dungeon Raid Bosses
World Bosses
Classic Timewalking Queues
Codex of Chromie Queues
Korrak's Revenge Daily Quests

Regardless, timegating the first 2-3 weeks does only to frustrate the community. Until you farm 100 tokens you still don’t have a choice in which weeklies to complete, you have to complete them all. After 100 there still seems to be little to choose from.

You know that after the 1st set, next will cost 40 and if you get 2 set, the rest only 20?

Forgot about that, it is not advertised properly, regardless it is still too much and too time gated.

100% agree its too much for the rewards, people feel stressed out and the FOMO gets people down.
Never good.

I think it’s actually okay. The first set is a little bit of a grind, but it gets easier and easier. It won’t take long to get all sets after the first one. I already have 28 coins, and I’ve not really done much.

an anniversary event should not be “a grind” never mind a 20 year anniversery

Thanks for the info! I already decided I’d likely only get one set by the time I’'m done with this event, but perhaps I’ll manage a bit more.

I’m fine with the event, but I do have a gripe with waiting around… and I do feel I have done a lot of that tonight. Currently here because I am waiting on the story teller event to start. I cannot do this much waiting more than a few times before I feel like I am wasting my time. I’ve accepted that I’ll lose out on a bunch of rewards in this game for this reason, but I do sometimes think it’s a bit overkill on how much you need to do/repeat for certain activites.

I updated the post to eliminate the confusion, although my statement still stands. The time gate is absolutely unwanted and uneeded for a playerbase that is already paying a subscription to play the game.

I do agree somewhat u should be able to get the first tier set week 1

To be honest, the sets aren’t really appealing. I don’t even think I’ll get any because they kind of look goofy.

the anniversery event is the whole patch… Until january.

Not everyone can play regularly for 3 months. It is a 20 years warcraft celebration event and we are rewarded with limitation and time gate.

Are you sure its really -that- bad of an time gate though?.. Or does it just look that bad at first glance?

you mean you didnt read it properly and was dying to whinge

The sets should have been 20 tokens from week 1, the rewards could have been capped per week but the weeklies should have given more token e.g the player will choose what content wants to do instead of being forced to do everything to speed up the process. The “ungated tokens” should have been available from week 1.

the patch lasts until january dude… I am sure you will get them all in no time after the first 2 or 3…

The anniversary is the whole patch this time around. Its not that bad.

I did read it properly the first time but I forgot, I acknowledged my mistake and then I updated my post. No need to be rude. My statement still stands.

I decided to just not bother and played something else.

If you could do it in a week

“so much for the anniversary patch, over in a week. zero content, make some effort bliz” etc etc etc

I won’t be trying for the warlock set because I don’t like it at all. There are a few toys and battlepets I’m interested in attaining so I will be working towards those things when I can find the time to do it since I can’t be around daily. So although I’m disapointed with the sets, I’m still happy there are things I can enjoy getting so pretty content here.
