Third utility nerf in a row for Hunter on the 10.2 PTR

Hello,

First we had: Feign death no longer dispels magic effects (but has the shield duration increased from 1.5sec to 3sec). This removes the ability to clean magic debuffs and mending bandage or stealth, along with the obvious losses.

Then, Tar Trap is no longer on the “special root” category that does not share DRs with other roots (like Charge, Harpoon) and will now DR with any normal root.

And today, we have the newest one: Hunter’s mark increases damage taken from all sources by 5% while the target is above 80% health, but has a 20sec CD in combat. This is very bad for PVP. A player will have about 1 million health in 10.2 with full PVP gear. So basically this means that all damage for the first 200k will be increased by 5%, so 10K.

All in all, your party will do 10K damage more to somebody with 1 million health, but your Hunter’s mark will have a 20sec CD in combat. If a rogue uses cloak, or someoby uses dwarf racial, or gets dispelled, you cannot reapply hunter’s mark for 20sec.

Please stop the utility nerfs - just nerf the damage if you must nerf the class.

Cheers

I mean, I couldn’t say the first one it’s a nerf…if you are really good at the game you can pre feign death lot of stuff and you are basically immortal for 3 sec

You can no longer feign off mind games for example, and so many others

That’s a decent redesign. Makes Hunter tankier into melees, and squishier into Casters. Hunter has been a nuisance to casters for way too long anyway. Especially MM, where you eat casters alive, but you get demolished by things like Warriors zugging you.

I’ve been asking this to be fixed for years. It’s literally equivallent to a bug. If it’s a ROOT, it should DR with other ROOTS. You cannot complain about this.

This kind of sucks honestly as a change, it’s obviously targeted at raid bosses and M+ bosses on higher keys that have a lot of HP so you can get your initial burst to be higher. It isn’t too bad if you want to instantly burst someone though, and might even be considered a buff, because Hunter’s mark is nearly useless into everything except Rogues anyway. Sure there are some niche uses to prevent getting outplayed by Shadowmeld or negating a Warlock IMP dispel on a trap, but generally, this is a 2-way change I think.

Nobody is going to Dwarf your Hunter’s mark lol, Dwarf and Dark Iron Dwarf Racials put trinket on 30 second CD so they can’t be used carelessly, especially for that

Yay such a cool design, 3 sec of crap and removing the dispell from feign is also bonkers, have not been on the ptr but i hope they have added some good passiv healing to compensate or huge heals
The root change is also just BS, it was hard enough already to shake of melee sitting on ya butt 24/7
What are these people smoking

Why does it always end up getting back up to silly big numbers ffs man

It is gonna be realistically more than just 10k. You have healers topping you off constantly so you will constantly be getting the 5% buff, also if someone is at 81% you still get the full 5% DMG benefit for the next spell, so a 250k aimed shot becomes 262.5k, so you got the initial 10k benefit but also the last shot alone got another 12.5k buff to DMG.

This is a good thing. Hunters are just broken when it’s a melee + caster. You can basically solo shutdown the melee if he is after you. Root into Root into Binding / Scatter, into even freezing trap, into pet stun and you already got your traps back. Double melee is harder, but single melee basically can’t play the game.

Again a good change. Being able to shutdown dot based casters with a single button is super broken. It makes you weaker into casters (you already destroy most casters) and stronger into melee (which is your weakness). You’ll just need to get used to using Feign not as a dispell, but as an actual dmg reduction.

hmmmm, the Feign death one is a bit silly
we lack utility and defence , bit shocked really

something needs to be compensated surely ?

  • maybe we could get deterrence back ( 100% parry for 8 seconds )

As replied by you and others before that, indeed the changes will make hunter weaker into casters and stronger into melee. I liked the “caster-killer” niche and was fine being countered by melee most of the time, but maybe it’s time to adapt.

What I will truly miss is the outplay potential:

  • Me and a feral are the last men standing in arena, I have full bleeds and moonfire, I feign off the moonfire, mending bandage the bleeds, and re-stealth to win the game
  • Saving feign death for mindgames specifically, and using it immediately when getting hit by it
  • Feigning the fire breath 30sec dot that gives devastation evoker instant living flame when it ticks
  • Feigning off the explosive shot of another hunter as it is a magic debuff
  • and many more…

I will especially miss the ability to restealth mid combat.

Regarding the roots - this will mostly be felt against double melee, which is by far the hardest hunter matchup. Hopefully the 3sec feign death shield will be a good enough compensation, or even outweigh the loss of the 4sec Tar trap.

Regarding hunter’s mark - it will get dispelled as a side effect of dispelling more important debuffs throughout the games, and having to re-apply it every 20 sec doesn’t seem like a fun mechanic to me. Hunter’s mark being part of the damage rotation is IMO a thing of the past - never worked well and that’s why it was reverted back to pure utility. On the other hand, a clutch hunter’s mark on a low-health target has won me so many arena games. It having 20sec CD in combat will feel like an unnecessary loss.

In the end, I think hunters will be fine. None of the nerfs is too huge. I will for sure adapt and still enjoy it no matter what, because I just love the playstyle so much. My only wish is for PVE-driven, half-baked ideas not to derail it unnecessarily. That’s why I created this thread and also replied in the PTR thread.

Cheers

You can still do that, feign the explosion itself and take no DMG.

I really hope it’s off CD, if it’s off CD I’ll just macro it under say rapid / aimed / kill command.

its on the GCD and has a 20second internal CD , you cant macro it under any skill anymore

Yeah, due to explosive shot being 3sec activation time, and feign death being 3sec shield, I will mitigate it, but it will still hit the poor folks around me  hehe, if they are foolish enough to stack

they should remove it off the GCD, and then this change would be ok, i dont fancy doing cast sequence macros to benefit from 5% dmg above 80%

in fact i will probably never use it for its damage gain in PvP … which is disappointing

Actually, the devs may have been talking about getting it off GCD

This is the official memo:

  • Developers’ note: We like the idea of Hunter’s Mark highlighting specific targets on the battlefield, so we have made an adjustment to Hunter’s Mark to cause it to increase all damage taken by 5% on targets above 80% health. A few quick notes about this change:
    • When applying Hunter’s Mark out of combat or before a pull, it continues to have no cooldown. If you apply Hunter’s Mark while in combat, Hunter’s Mark receives a 20 second cooldown. We don’t intend for you to move this damage bonus around frequently.
    • Hunter’s Mark is still on the global cooldown with this change.
    • Multiple Hunters can not stack this damage bonus on the same target.

Notice the explicit mention that it’s still on the GCD. Then maybe they’re still considering it… hard to tell

its a PVE buff, but negative for PVP
it wont come off the GCD unless feedback is given

so if any hunters want to band together and tell them to REMOVE GCD on it … that would be a nice win for PVP

Well mind games in Df isnt as strong as Shadowlands

and i agree the new Feign death Change is a Nerf into Caster, but also a buff into Meeles.

and you call these nerfs ? where is the 50% nerf on rapid, aimed, sniper and deathchrakram, then we can talk

I buy it from you, but also the nerf to the damage to the frost of the frost ray and the spike, along with the combustion of the fire by 50% and reducing the control of the arcane mage and the frost

And where is the nerf on mage dmg and super god mobility? where is the removal of blink? blink has no purpose its only to annoy people.

odd, im fairly sure when we mee tin bg u win 10 rounds out of 10 with jsut rapid and explosive zugzuging me, what is mobility even for in there ?

we both know u do more than twice my dmg, twice my kills, have better cc, and mobility means jack with your range.

edit 11/10 with the kill 10 seconds ago.
