This game is not casual friendly anymore

We may disagree on the meaning of casual / hardcore. However at the end of the day we all agree the hardcore player spends more time to play the game.

Calling yourself a ‘hardcore’ player does not mean you are pro elite player that has his name written in the secret top 0.01% playerbase, it just means you play too much.

Now, since we all agreed on these definition. Lets start the topic.

The game now designed for the ‘hardcores’ you know those who plays more then the rest of us ‘filthy casuals’

Every SL changes is made for the hardcores. I mean every SINGLE one of them, lets have a look:

M+ loot nerf? Hardcores were not happy how M+ filthy looters competed with their raid mightiness. NERF!

Torgahist tower? Guess who is willing to spens too much time going to every 'layers and higher floors farming for his Soul Ashes.

Anima farming, the Maw, covenant talents thing.

The more I am experiencing SL the more I feel like it is for Hardcores mainly. It is not bad it is their game and all.

However I do feel unhappy sometimes that if I got caught at work a week or two, I will feel I am so behind the pack.

My friend has been playing WOW since classic both in US/EU. He played every expansions untl Panda lands, then he left the game and became a returner. Those who returned to play the game for few months and leave again.

I met him recently, I could not resist to ask what happened? Not seeing you around pretty boy?

He told me that he feels the game became so much demanding since Legion and BFA grinding was the last nail in the coffin for him

So sad and tragic… Let us drink coffee!!

It’s still casual friendly you just have to adjust your expectations. Why should you be able to compete with hardcore players that invest way more time into the game?

You only need to do the above things if you want to clear mythic Castle Nathria first weeks, otherwise you are TOTALLY FINE not farming the top floors for soul ash, rushing exalted with Ve’Nari and pumping M+. You can legit clear normal Castle Nathria at iLevel 180-190 and even my mother has that now.

The game is time gated so everyone can progress at the same pace. :£

Not sure what isn’t ‘casual’ about that.

If you took a break for two months, how many legendaries will that cost you?

Yeah if you don’t play the game it’s hard to get gear, that goes for any game ever made by the way.

Not to that extend. Punishment should be there. Catch up mechanisms should also be there.

They will come in a later patch, as they always have!

Ignored content

Imagine locking your story behind a weekly time gate.

Some RPG. lol.

He left after Pandaria because Legion and BFA were too grindy? There was Draenor after Pandaria. How did he know that he will not like 2 next expansions so it’s time to leave?

Also, sorry to sound like a cliché but he played since Vanilla but then many expansions later left because the game became too grindy. Excuse me!? Maybe he just grew up and has less time now than during Vanilla and it has nothing to do with the game changing.

I think this is the most casual friendly expansion. With all the loot nerfs from m+ and raids, and the weekly Great Vault that gives 1 item to both casuals and hardcores, you really only need to do the bare minimum for the Great Vault cause that’s where everyone’s best chance to get loot is.

Torghast is not that grindy either. Do lower layers, they give most soul ash and you’ll upgrade your legendary to max rank a few weeks later when the base items are much cheaper anyway. Everyone who played the game at all got the rank 1 legendary at the same time due to the timegating of harder layers.

Even “casual” players will be able to clear mythic raid at the end of each patch if your skill allows it but you don’t have time to run 100s of m+ every week.

Yeah, imo with these steps blizz outright attacking the biggest playerbase in wow. Lets be real, wow is a game that didn’t get too much attention from younger generations its mainly played by those who started it way back, and we are grown up now and have to work, family, friends etc. and its rare when a grown up man can play 10 hours a day.

Blizzard couldn’t even picked even on porpuse a worse direction what they just did right now. Its could be saved with the drop fix and ilvl fixes but we know they will rather pull their game into the grave with themselves than letting their ego hurt.

Game hasn’t been as casual friendly since WoD.

I agree with OP but on a very different area/note. Pre-50 leveling is absolute BS. Mainly because they locked LFG out until you hit Lv50 while you have plenty of Wanted Quests that require you to team up with 3+ players to take the rare or elite down. How would that work out if you can’t LFG and General Chat is realm-restricted or if you’re playing past midnight? Whichever monkey they hired to work on the system needs firing! Scratch that, a monkey could’ve done better. It’s like they want you to pay for 50 to get the simple perk of grouping up on an MMO. Very casual/new player friendly game this is.

That’s exactly what I did too at the same time. I skipped MoP and WoD and came back because I believed the hype about Legion only to discover they completely mutilated classes.

All they gonna get is huge sub drop unless TBC gonna get announced.
I’m repeating myself but perfect timeline for both playstyles was WOTLK, with 25 man HM for “hardcore” tryhards, and 10 man raid mode with decent loot for those who play casually, and it worked perfectly fine. Simple formula, less grind, more action.

But knowing that blizzard is on full P2W route, big changes for casuals will never appear.

I think this game is very casual friendly right now. I dont feel pressured at all and I’m playing at my own pace. I do feel though that nerfing certain content is unfair on those that want to be competitive and have the time to do so.
I was enjoying Torghast pre nerf. If I cant do the higher levels then thats a me problem - I need to improve, practise, get better gear.

My biggest gripe right now is that the term ‘casual’ is thrown around like its a dirty word, much the same as people are being insulted by their age by certain players. The game feels casual friendly but the players arent

Maybe take that break with the foreknowledge that in a constant game you are going to fall behind those that don’t take breaks and that when you come back you are going to have to play more to catch up with those didn’t stop.

In a constant game I shouldnt be time gated from content I do have time to do in my 10-12 hours per week.

Can we stop to think about that?

When’s the last time blizzard released a full expansion w/o all the time gating?

I am being held back, 4/7 days cause I cant progress story. I am done with my 'weekly ’ progression when it comes to lore and story on friday/saterday on my chars.
