Having kids and responsibilities that overtake WoW. If you work 9-5 you have only a few hours to spend with the wife and kids every day. Can’t be raiding those hours. Or, well, you can but in my view you’re a lesser figure for prioritizing that over family.
WoW is a video game and a video gaming is a valid hobby like any other. We got many raiders in the guild who make arrangements with their partners regarding kids: You watch them over days X when I have to raid and I will babysit them on days Y so you can spend time on your hobbies and leave the weekends for family time together. Works perfectly for them. WoW can be integrated successfully into any couple’s or family life as long your partner is understanding and you are willing to give something in return.
So how many hobbies requires weekly hours? Maybe you can come with a few examples and see the difference between addiction and hobby and hobbies that are allowing a non weekly schedule.
This isnt a social security forums, why post about your family size or working hours? ^^
You expect some benefits for it or someone to give you a pass on the skills to pilot your class in a childrens video game? Lmao
If you came to compete in an online artificial world with 4 hours playtime per week you should be at the bottom, except the case when you are a great player.
I also play football(or soccer. Not sure the proper English term for it) as a very casual hobby with a bunch of friends and colleagues. We all have agreed for the days to be Tuesday 7-9PM and Thurs 7-9PM. Cause that works best for everyone.
So that also makes it a weekly work hour schedule? Its a hobby which requires more people so we agree to a time which suits us best.
Same with raids. People agree to a set time so that everyone can plan and make it. Hobby’s can be vary. Not just solo-ones which you can do at 2AM if you want.
Edit: Obviously before corona hit. Dang I miss them games already!
What you chose to prioritize over WoW is up to each their own. I personally place WoW at the bottom of the list. It’s a beloved hobby but it’s not my life. I can drop it on a dime if I choose to. That’s where I like this game to be at. Again, personally my opinion. Can’t be 30-40 years old and prioritize this shiet over family. I mean it’s fun but c’mon.
Hey. Its still a video game like any other. Of course nobody is asking you to miss your child’s birthday just so you can bash buttons on a computer.
But WoW is not an shooter either. Where you can log in->pew pew for 15 mins->match over, log out. MMORPG can be vary of course. But so far every game shares 1 similar trait: There is character progression. Be it in leveling, gear, and etc. And that of course comes with the price of more time investment needed.
Football is a hobby for sure, but 4 hours per week (you can include 2-3 more hours of drinks after the games) and watching 1-2 games you still don’t reach the time required by WoW and the periodicity, because you can skip a game and you are not behind and have to catch it next week.
Depends each to their own. But everyone has their own expectations and should also understand their limits. Got 1 main, 1 alt. So far I can manage to do everything on it. With a 8-18 work day+family.
Reasons why I am not playing in the big leagues professionally. Are obviously me being very unskilled in the game, but also I understand it requires a great time investment. Such time I cannot afford.
So if you want to have 5 chars on mythic, raid in 3 guilds and raid everyday on a different char. Then it will require a great deal of time for it. If you can’t afford the “price” then don’t sign up and just lower your bar. And find something in WoW which you have time to do. If you can’t find anything…then WoW is simply not for you. What else can I say?
What was that old saying? “You can’t have cake and eat it too”
agreed! /10 chars
Yes, indeed, this is why I believe that the game should be designed in such a way that a weekend player can still have access to everything and a pleasant gaming experience. I know that not everyone is on the same page with what everything means, but features advertised in an expansion should be included.
As you said, and this is at the end the title of the topic as well, once you start to put a limit to the weekly time spent in WoW, the number of possible things to do is drastically going down.
Then don’t play the game, problem solved. WoW was on a bad joke a long time now with its infernal loot system. At least from a loot perspective it’s starting to become a bit better.
Karma can be a b*tch. There are no betting odds unfortunately, but unless Blizz will spam panic buttons, is going to be under 1M in 4 months.
Well. If we look from a betting perspective. Showering everyone in loot so that people still quit after 2-3 weeks cause there is nothing to do. That cannot be reversed, you can’t take loot away(without causing a huge PR nightmare).
Loot scarcity can be reversed IF your scenario becomes a reality.
People quitting because something takes too long / is time consuming is a reality. People quitting because something is too easy and is boring, maybe, still a big question mark.
Yes I know I know, all doom and gloom if the game is made a bit difficult. How many times do you think that has been said in the 16+ years of WoW’s existence?
I don’t have time to build model kits like I did when I was a kid.
But you won’t find me writing stern letters to model kit manufacturers demanding they start making exclusively pre-built and pre-painted models…
8 million times. The difference between WotLK highest number of subscriptions and the sales of SL.
Depends on the person directly. I for one happy to feel a bit of excitement now to loot something instead of the BfA “oh got an upgrade? Yawn…not sure if its worth enchanting/geming it? will replace it in the next m+ I run anyway?”
So what do you consider as “having adequate loot”? You should be running in 213 ilevel(hc level) bis pieces in every slot on week 2?
Those were day-of-release sales and preorders, not active subscription numbers as of now. Active subscription numbers are likely at least twice that.
