Thoughts on Dornogal

Still need to know where everything is. But I think its an alright zone. Feels open.

It’s fine, feels open and easy to navigate. All the important stuff is right next to eachother in a line.

I use 20% of it: the section with the bank, AH, flight master.

I think it’s super cool it definitely feels like an actual huge city and that’s great

yeah kind of boring it is to be honest no areas where u had just elites like in dragon flight, not much happening very boring nothing to do there

I like Dornogal, but I like most expack central hubs. Except SL.

There is nothing memorable or monumental about the place. The usual haphazard array of steps and platforms that make it feel more like a level from Marble Madness. Sadly there doesn’t seem to be any of the designers skilled in cognitive map building. ie use of positional cues and directional landmarks. Just your usual bland boring rambling … er whatever its supposed to be.

I like it better than Valdrakken, but it’s also not completely my thing. So, it’s ‘fine’.
I like the rest of the zone though.

My all-time favorite hub is still Boralus; that place felt so alive and real, even without many people there it still does.

i think flying killed exploration
i know you can switch to ground mount but you need some self control…
i would explore the whole city but there just no purpose

It feels like a big city but, thus, I can’t find anything and spend half my time there asking a guard where to go. It’s … very samey ie the buildings are all very similar with the same stonework and design (this is part of what makes it harder to find specific buildings). Most real cities have all different designs because different parts were built over the centuries.

Bland.

Airport.

Alliance.

Dwarf.

Confusing.

Those are sort of the thoughts that come to my mind.

It’s not very note-worthy in its visuals. It’s the same theme and aesthetic everywhere. Wildhammer Dwarves with a twist!
And it’s huge and has that airport feel over it – lots of space between everything to accommodate the many travelers.
And because it’s green grass, flowers, and blue sky, and Dwarves all over, it feels very much like an Alliance city that the Horde are permitted to use. Awkward.
Finally the shape is not a simple geometric shape. Good cities have simple geometric layouts and different color schemes for each area that allow players to easily identify where everything is. This has none of that. People will be asking the guards for directions throughout the whole expansion – I guarantee it.

If expansion hubs were cocktails Dornogal would be a glass of water.

I like it but the biggest problelm is mailbox so we need more!

Its terrible from a visual design point of view - everything looks exactly the same and its hard to understand where you are

It’s very… “utilitarian” from a players PoV. Every single location seems to serve a purpose for us with no regard for how inhabitants might live their lives, and the actual areas that look lived in are tiny.

Most cities these days tend to be that way. People looove them some convenience, cost what it may.

100% agree with you on that statement

It’s okay. Likely nothing will top Boralus but that’s fine. It could be better on the looks side of things but I can understand it for immersion’s sake as they are earthen dwarves. It feels more like an overworld Ironforge but with the earthen twist on it and it works for what it is. The music is fine… then you reach the inn and your ears are blessed with awesome inn music.

The position of things is intuitive and I have a real easy time finding everything. I really appreciate that. They also have a really convenient entrance to two zones. Also the positioning of Dornogal is really convenient because it’s basically in the middle of isle of Dorn so going anywhere happens super quackly.

Again, not the best but I’m happy. I’ll be massively happier next expansion with being in Silvermoon and there are hints of the draenei having a new home too.
