Thoughts on the issues with PvP and how to fix them

Now I didn’t want to make the 67th “how to fix PvP participation” post but that’s exactly what I have done. I will line these up with particular issues or roadblocks I have noticed effecting other people I have met and myself.

REWARDS
WoW has changed a lot over the last 2 decades and the design of PvP rewards also needs to be updated. I have two suggestions for this which together I think will bring renewed interest in PvP:

Battlepass, this seems like an easy win for blizzard and they already have most of the system in place for renown. You would gain experience for this battlepass through all forms of PvP including; world quests, world PvP, random battlegrounds, skirmishes, brawls, epic battlegrounds, arenas, rated battlegrounds, solos shuffle and blitz. Different sources of XP give different amounts of XP, for example random battlegrounds would give you more than world quests, arenas would give you more than random battlegrounds, rated battlegrounds would give you more than arenas. The rewards for this battlepass can be simple and low effort: Toys, pets, transmogs like cool back pieces like flags, tabards, recolours of vicious saddle mounts, new seasonal PvP mount, gold, conquest, old elite PvP sets, recolours of old gladiator mounts, titles, the list is honestly endless and most of the assets already exist so development time would be minimal.

Supatease’s mount idea: Supatease recently made a video where he described a reward structure using the dragonriding customisations at 1800 you get the base mount and then with each rating bracket you gain more customisation options which would be prestigious in comparison to lower rating rewards and battlepass reward customisations.

GEARING
Now this will be contentious but I don’t think gearing should be important for PvP. PvP should still reward gear via honour and conquest gear but in PvP instances and warmode you should be elevated to a certain Ilevel no matter what form of PvP gear you have. Upgrading this gear’s PvE ilevel should be done with conquest and with honour.

THE HEALER ISSUE
easy one here just make a 2v2 solo queue with DPS only, it already exists for skirmishes just make a rated version. Ultimately the real fix for this is making healing actually fun but I don’t know how to do that.

MMR/Smurfing and boosting
We all know it’s an issue, pikabo making his 17th sub rogue of the season so he can make a youtube short montage of him destroying 1300 rated players in shuffle I respect the hussle but it’s doing actual damage to the PvP scene. My solution or this would be to have your highest rated character’s MMR influence any new alts. You can make that 17th rogue Pika but it’s going to start with 2800 MMR. Also no hate on Pikabo here he’s awesome he’s just low hanging fruit for this sort of thing lol.

EU specific sidenote - Russian premades dominate random battlegrounds, they are super toxic and it’s too easy for them to make a full lobby with separate groups because of their player population. Random battlegrounds are the entry point for new players trying PvP and these massive premades farming them for honour is an instant turn off.

If you made it this far I appreciate you, I don’t have all the answers so feel free to comment with more suggestions and spam content creators with this post, hopefully one of the interns blizzard has working on PvP will read it.

I like most of what you have typed here except for 1 thing:

Some of us simply don’t care that much about cosmetics, we prefer to increase our character’s power instead. We might be a minority or the people who think like me are silent, I don’t know. Maybe they have quit the game already.

THIS!!! Idk how to tag people but this needs to get an insane amount of traction.

It also would fix the dip we have in players in the “off” season when there is litteraly no reason to play wow pvp.

yeah I saw your post earlier and I don’t think it’s representative of the majority, all that will do is make the gatekeeping even worse stopping fresh blood entering the ladder, I appreciate your comment though

I dont think gearing is the problem, its could be the easiest as its ever been.
I enjoy as it is now, gems ect. Maybe crafted gear could go.

Only thing wrong is the participation affected rating system, stops working when you got ppl in different expansions and dozen of separate rated modes. One mode you got r1s on trivial rating and mmr, in another you got ppl on 3k with 1.6k exp.

Dont need to do anything else than overhaul the ranking system or start pruning some modes. If someone wants elite for season example, why would he fight sweaty r1 teams in 2v2 or 3v3 from 2kmmr onwards if he can go in blitz and get 3k rating while watching cartoons on another monitor, there is nothing that separates arena/blitz/shuffle elite on the achievements so somehow someone designing all of this missed what ppl will do in the situation when one choise is easy and other hard but rewards the same and then you also got a rating system that gets affected by participation on top of that, dont need to think too long to know what happens here or why its bad and fail as design.

The system was failing hard long before even shuffles or other expansions. It begins failing the second there is changes in participation for any number of reason or when bliz dont reset mmr, end game content cant vary this much between seasons.

They could start reset mmr between seasons for one. How is it fair that one guy without last seasons mmr has to play from 1500mmr to 2.4 and gets it with 60% win example cause he can do two things at the same time and control his character and see things moving on his monitor. And another player has 2.6k mmr from previous season where his class has been broken and without even pressing bop once on their team they tank their mmr but they get 2.4 with 30% win for the season anyway all because of last seasons mmr gifting it free. And then they gloat to be two time champion. Obviously the whole seasonal reward system makes even less sense at all if they dont even reset mmr between seasons.

I mean you get the crests according to your rating anyway so its pretty much the same ?
Wining a game = 2-4 crests
losing a game =1 crest
Crest type is dependant on your rating as I said and if you want a lower quality crest u can simply exchange higher ones for lower ones.

Thats the only thing i wanted to correct.

Most of them are Ukranian. Also it doesnt matter from where they are, there also EU que syncers.
They all ruin pvp all the same. You do yourself a great disservice when you want to post a critique and display bias so blatantly.

Man why is it so hard to understand that I want elite conquest weapon and go smash faces with it. I dont care about pve ilvl.

EDIT: BONUS POINT: If people gonna cry and say pvp should be equal in gear bla bla, just remember that you can push 2.4 and get your own elite conqest weapon and smash faces with it. So its fair and equal.
