You are the one not getting it tho, so please, take your own advice.
My point is exactly that everyone can act tough and pretend to be “more brutal and direct than you both put together” while typing it in a videogame forum in her own comfort zone.
Insults and buzzwords are the big things, nowadays…especially with our generation. Completely taking away the actual meaning of those words and then looking like idiots
I don’t think I insulted you, when I said I think I’m more direct about tackling life than you
I have an immense fear of great heights. Where is the filter for me?
I do not care about this filter being added at all, but we should not think it is Blizzard being so thoughtful aww. Someone important in the development team probably had issues and they joked about it afterwards and someone proposed adding a filter for it and everyone laughed but they did it anyway and it was good times and they turned it into a marketing stunt (kind of).
I did not insult you either, i simply pointed out that your acting in a videogame forum is cringe (or ridiculous if some feel bothered by "cringe).
We are talking in a videogame forum, while in our own comfort zones, and with no one able to compare our words with reality. So that’s rather easy to throw out cool cliches with no one able to challenge what you are saying.
"The top definition for cringe culture on Urban Dictionary says "The culture started on the Internet of making fun of people and/or insulting them by calling them “cringy” or “cringe”
The amount of incredibly stupid takes from people who care so much about an arachnid filter being implemented.
It’s an addition that doesn’t hurt anyone and makes the game a whole lot more manageable for those with a phobia so strong that it extends to spiders in games and cartoon’ish media. For one, it makes doing PvE content a lot easier both for the one with the phobia and the ones playing with the one who has said phobia since they can now have a proper field of vision instead of having to go through leaps to block out certain aspects, or simply not do that part of the content as a whole.
As for the exposure treatment and talks about seeking therapy, well, is a game where the main goal is sparetime enjoyment really the place for that? Therapy isn’t something that just suddenly gives results out of the blue after a few weeks so while i agree that it may be an idea to look into if it’s to such a severe degree that it heavily limits living life, then saying that they shouldn’t add this kind of filter for one of the most common phobias is the same as saying “sorry, i know this tool may make it easier for you to enjoy you sparetime activity but for your own sake then you shouldn’t have it”.
Then there’s the idea that exposure treatment is a surefire treatment for everyone without looking into this small detail that not everyone reponds to these things in the same way nor might they have had the phobia manifest through the same means. For some it may be due to a traumatic experience, for some it’s ingrained for no otherwise explainable reason and for some it may be societally learnt by watching others with a more ingrained phobia and thinking that’s what they need to do in order to fit in at an early age. This is not even talking about different degrees of severeity.
In general those who seem so overtly opposed to it give off more of a “back in my day…” vibe. Personally i don’t see the problem and i’m not surprised that some of those being opposed to it starts going on about DEI and the likes.
Cringe isn’t an insult, literally means “to feel embarrassed about something”. And that’s exactly my point, acting all tough in a videogame forum while talking about real life, is cringe, embarassing. Because again, there is no way to compare talking with real life, so people here can pretend all they like. So forgive me if i am skeptical of “tough people” on a videogame forum.
Yeah i mean, i can definitely agree on the overuse, but as i said previously, is not really about not liking what you said, but more of the fact that, in the channel we are using for communication is rather easy to act in a way, or pretend, without people really being able to challenge it.
Because, well, we are not talking face to face so i can pretend to be whatever and dish out some cool quotes here and there, while in real life i would be a completely different person.
As someone else pointed out, I’m very afraid of heights, I don’t see any games giving a crap about that (nor should they)
Also as I mentioned before, phobias, even (or especially) severe phobias are to be confronted voluntarily and safely by the person suffering from it, it’s the only proven way to cure it or alleviate it (google the psychotherapy literature from several decades)
A video game is a good place to do that since its…safe.
Plus - have you guys ever heard of Myxophobia?
It’s the phobia of slimy things, where is the filter for that? Or Cartilogenophobia, which is the fear or bones? So let’s make all this go away, and for example turn the shadowlands slimy-bony cat into a crocodile…
Shouldn’t we have filters for that as well?
You see…it’s typical of woke behavior to favour certain groups over others, simply because they want to ride the horse of virtue without any effort for fairness.
