Weak people are often the loudest.
That sounds like the classic boomer that knows nothing about psychology and basic human brain functions comment a phobia isn’t like a simple fear, it’s a mental disorder, it would be like trying to heal a heavily bleeding wound with paracetamol…
Anyway, it’s good to have for the ones that need it in my opinion. The more options, the better!
This…so much, this.
You can’t be sheltered all your life. Life doesn’t work that way - you’ve got to grab the bull by the horns, put your big boy/girl pants on and tackle what life throws at you, because that is just life.
Exactly I believe in 2024 there are less barbaric and lethal solutions to face a problem
It’s always disappointing to see how people lack any compassion for others.
Why anyone would want to go out of their way to cause stress to others is beyond me. So much fuss over an optional setting.
You don’t remove fear by forcing something on someone, quite the opposite. People here have little understanding of irrational fears. But then again, armchair experts are always the worst, no matter what the subject matter is.
I had as a child Trypanophobia (as mentioned by Puny’s graph at 13th response). The phobia of syringe needles. As an adult now, I don’t have it anymore.
Why? Because I faced my fear and learned self-control.
Fear is an irrational response that gets you likely killed because it makes you think and act irrational. Yes, it is a very strong emotion. But you can learn to control it.
There is for a reason the very old saying “control your fears”.
Fear doesn’t have to be about snakes, spiders or insects or even needles. It can be anything…like jumping on a train, on your own, going abroad without family, on your own (or with friends/work colleagues)
But you’ve got to overcome that fear otherwise, the brutally harsh truth is, you won’t amount to much because friends and work colleagues won’t baby you/mother you.
Game is very slowly being prepared for custom-made content, mods and the metaverse. This is just the start.
Sadly I’m only 31 years old but still get ID’d for monster energy so I dunno what to tell you I’m sure you’re older or of similar age.
Also waking up on sunday I was not expecting this thread to have resurrected itself.
High 5
I get ID’s for alcohol and I’m only 28, 29 on the 9th August.
I’m glad you managed to overcome that, but you can’t use your experience as an example of a method that works for everybody.
That said, I’m not saying a phobia does not need to be resolved, it does, but there could be many reasons, methods (one of which could be the one you used) and paths to overcome it - and it needs to be done in my opinion, if it’s possible.
I believe though that dismissing the problem with the classic statement of “be a man and face it” it’s embarrassingly silly, to say it politely.

At this point being a boomer is more like a state of mind rather than an age factor. I’d say it’s more or less the same to say uncultured. By the way I’m 31 as well.

Now hold up. We are not just saying “man up”. We are also telling said women to “women up” too.
Equality, after all.

But you can’t exactly stunt and decline a method without at least trying it though?
I get where you’re coming from but you’re disowning the method of facing said fears straight off the bat instead of allowing it to be a plausible cure because we need more soft approaches to such an extent people have said those approaches don’t work but here we have heramaar who has had that approach and it cured his phobia.
Also phobias has nothing to do with politics and this is the problem you’re linking the two towards a socially demonstrated circle this isn’t about what’s politically correct its what helps the individual through study and case and science.
Also I’m very much not a boomer, I just have differing views from you and the best part is I wouldn’t sit and insult you for having those views, I’ve had 0 benefits from what the boomer era had so you’re also misusing the word entirely.
By the way I’m 31 as well.
I’m a 28 year old female and I’m probably more brutal and direct than you both put together.

And sometimes, that “silly” quote is exactly what needs to be heard, otherwise, the fact is, for anything…you will miss out, because your too scared to leave your comfort zone.
An amazing quote I live by is:
“Nothing in this world that’s worth having, comes easy.”
Now hold up. We are not just saying “man up”. We are also telling said women to “women up” too.
Equality, after all.
lol

For the same reason you treat different diseases with different medicines, even if the symptoms seem the same at first. But it’s really just semantics, I think we’re saying the same thing in a way

Ok so?

I agree, in some cases it could work, yet to apply this to everybody it’s irresponsible and potentially dangerous.

You are acting so tough in a videogame forum tho, cringe as hell to be honest.

Life is dangerous…that’s life. Life is about taking the risk. If people didn’t take risks we probably wouldn’t live in the world that we do now.
Tough crap if you don’t want to take those risks and go through life, mollycoddled, but you will lose out to somebody who did take the risk.
You are acting so tough in a videogame forum tho, cringe as hell to be honest.
Me and everyone else. I ain’t all that special to be honest.
And I don’t say anything on here that I wouldn’t say to somebody’s face.
