The story begins when I noticed I overaggroed when my dps was high in MC but according to my addon was safe for a little bit. I thought to myself ok maybe its not well calibrated and a I get a crazy windfury crit proc and that instant I overaggro without.
Today thought, during onyxia phase 1 I noticed I pulled threat when I was 4-5K below tank. I knew there was something wrong.
To start of, from what I read so far for a mellee to overaggro from a tank he needs to have 110% of the threat while for a ranged the number 130%.
We made a small group and when to blasted lands (servant mobs) to check for errors. We did 2 attemps. Once I let the tank build some threat and then I started hitting execures. At around 40k tank threat and mine about 3-4K lower I overaggroed. Keep in mind that at this moment the addon was considering the 110% safety threshold so I was showing like 7-8K threat to pull aggro. Yet I did pull aggro at like 90% of the tank.
We repeated the proccess once more, a little faster this time. Again tank was at 20k threat and I overaggroed at 18K.
What is weird thought, is that after this I stopped dpsing and let tank try to get aggro again. To my surprise the tank was above me 4-5K threat and still he dint have aggro.
I am starting to think that there is some bug with threat modifiers or something. In berserker stance the threat should be 80% of normal threat. Maybe something is totally broken in the game or addons are way off.
Anybody had similar problems, can do the tests I did with his own groups and provide his experience, or anything that can shed light to the situation please post. This is really frustrating for me as I cannot enjoy fighting a boss being in constant fear I ll aggro the next moment :).
i did notice i tend to lose aggro much faster then i remember losing it in vanilla.
i assume your tank was a warrior.
my theory for the moment is that defensive stance doesnāt multiply threat properly (technically it should be 90% damage and 110% threat, but i feel as if 110% threat is multiplying of the 90% rather then the 100% itās supposed to)
Well to be fair it doesnt seem to work right on the tests I did afterwards. Even in MC bosses last week I pulled threat on Magmadar when I was at least 3-4K below the threshold. I doupt I can do 3-4K of threat in a windfury proc.
Berserker stance in classic DOES NOT have a lower threat output then normal.
Is this a tank specific problem? Only with this tank but not always with another? then your addon probably assumes the tank has the talents for +15% threat in defensive stance while he might not have it.
do you use heroic strike to fill your dps? Heroic strike has a build in threat modifier that your addon might not register properly
We kept it as simple as possible so yea I dint cast any threat increasing abilites anyway. The tank has all threat increasing talents etc.
Also both details and classic threat meter addon use so the same values exactly which means its not addon dependend.
At this point I really dont know what to do. I guess i have to die 4-5 times again in MC till I find the truth. I also setup my addon to update every 0.33 seconds for a faster update time. It is just so weird that I could pull when I was so far below on threat.
Details uses the classic threat meter code to track threat, both addons are using the same threat library. So if a bug exists in the library all classic threat addons are affected because only one threat code exists for classic (addon developers decided to use the same threat code to avoid duplicate work).
If you think the threat code is bugged you can open and explain the issue here (link to the threat library used by all classic addons):

Iāve noticed the same, people taking aggro being 20% threat beneath me.
I do remember seeing a message from details that the addon wonāt work unless other players use it too.
But yeah, so far no threat meter has been accurate.
Itās guesswork right now, and with the current cleaving trend, you really have to put in some work as a tank.
Mate you literally told me to my face that Iām a worse player than I was in 2005, then suggested itās why I canāt hold aggro, then pointedly remarked how it would explain a lot.
Explain a lot about what? Youāve never played the game with me, and my first contribution to this thread was to suggest players have improved since 2005. I made no mention of my skills or what I play whatsoever.
So yes, you damn well assumed you know me, my skill level, and what I play.
If youāre giving me a take on why something āmay be happeningā that āisnāt happening to me, nor did I mention it happening to meā then yes, youāre assuming.
Rofl. Seriously? Are you for real? Do I have to break it down for you?
I made a reply to Randprin stating that maybe when tanking heās losing agrro much faster in classic compared to vanilla because players are better, internet connections are better, therefore the DPS are pulling aggro off him much more easily because theyāre outputting vastly superior DPS to 2005.
You then replied to ME, saying maybe Iām a worse player than I was in 2005, and thatās why I lose aggro easy, followed by a snarky remark āit would explain allot.ā
Thatās the very definition of you assuming that Iām A) a tank, B) losing aggro a lot, and then C) trying to use that logic you came up with to smarmily remark āIt would explain allot.ā
So please tell me, this ātake on why it may be happeningā? What be happening? I already told you Iām not a tank, but you just kept on assuming I was the OP who complained about losing aggro a lot? Youāre literally arguing with the wrong guy. Lol.
