I think if Blizzard decrease the subscription cost by 5 euros it would help many to return to the game and also gain many new players who has less income. Which could in return see a increase in those players buying store items. I’m not saying Wow should go free4play that would be horrible. With content drought getting longer and longer it would only make sense to decrease sub prices for a time at least.
I doubt they’ll retain +40% subs by lowering the price of the sub by 40%.
The price of the sub isn’t the main reason why people don’t play the game.
People who can’t afford a 13€ sub can’t afford a 25€ store mount.
You can frame that!
Personally I’ve gone over to TBC Classic and loving it because retail is beyond boring. It has very little to do with the price of the sub with a lot of players. I started in TBC and playing it again made me realise why I loved this game and how much I miss it. Sure there are some good QOL changes in retail but a lot of them ruined the community I believe, as I’ve noticed with TBC classic, people are willing to help you out. I could go on but I’d be here all day. Retail is basically soulless and that is one of many reasons people aren’t interested anymore.
that’s not how maths work
Since the game started you have almost a 5€ decrease in price in Euros when inflation is calculated. Other currencies are far worse.
What was 14€ in 2004 would now cost you 18.80€, so almost 5€.
Well yeah but I wouldn’t blame people for not being experiences with that sort of calculations. Anyway it requires the multiplicative inverse of what’s left, in this case a 40% decrease in price requires a two thirds increase in subs.
Indeed if they lower the sub price by 40% they need to increase subscriptions by 66% to make it up (if you just count subs).
You might want to add extra revenue from the shop but I doubt that players who only returned for a lower sub will spend much cash in the shop
No need to lower the price, if you can litteraly just go F2P, which you can technically do already, only catch is, you need someone else to pay for your sub aka. the WoW Token.
My sleep-addled brain decided yesterday that it is exactly how maths will work from now on.
Feel free to spread the word throughout the countryside so that everybody’s on the same page.
Is that a follower of the old maths I see here preaching his outdated beliefs ? Heresy !
You can expect the forum inquisition to pay you a visit in the coming days to clear things out.
Its not about money its about content, if the content is sparse and poor then no price will bring people back.
I’m surprised they do not increase it. Same price for ages
Only one country has had an increase to the Subscription, the UK. It was a 12% increase.
But the same as the Euro, the price is a lot less than inflation.
The Bank of England site says that what you could buy with £9 in 2004 would cost £14.70 in 2021.

I think it’s an interesting and important thing to realize.
it also tells you, that if they were to increase subscription by 20% and that would’ve decreased player count by 20% they’d be worse off, not equal
I’m well aware how it works, I was just tired & turned off my brain. (+1/2 to make up for a -1/3, +1/3 for a -1/4 etc)
Yet the correlation between the price and the sub count is a false one imo.
Once again the price is not why people aren’t playing the game.
That’s kinda convoluted way to describe it. Seeing it as a sum, easily leads to mistakes.
To be exact it would’ve been +1/2 x… - 1/3 (x+1/2x)
Much more reasonable way is to take as it is, multiplying.
What you call “+1/2” is actually * 3/2, which is reset by multiplying by inverse number (* 2/3).
And then you don’t need to remember what makes up for what.
That’s true, I’m just pointing out the math.
Well for some it might, but I generally agree it’s not a lot of players and even if it was, if you look at it from monetary POV (blizzard’s incentives) - yes, it’s basically not good in any shape or form to reduce subscription amount.
I remember playing Football manager and doing this kind of juggling with the ticket price, if you drop it a small amount of people will come back but if you raise it a lot more will leave.
It’s not true if you lower the price 20% then 20% more people will play. It’s far more complicated.
Nobody said it is so.
