Too many buttons

I think roughly 20-30 abilities are a good sweet spot. There are huge outliers though between specs and type of content

Currently the variance is more like 20-40 abilities, but some specs need lot of additional targer buttons for PvP like mages/shamans. They should reduce the variance a little bit in that regard I think.

I have a strong feeling that you are counting things like defensives as ā€œbuttons to be COMPETITIVEā€
Here’s what I think:
1 interrupt
1 movement
2 cc
1-2 defensive
1-2 bigger cd
2 smaller cd
2 aoe
4 rotational

That is 15. That is the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM a spec needs.
Take any of those away and the spec suffers a lot.

So you saying there’s 20? You did not think about what you are saying if you want to shed buttons. You are literally asking for classic-level rotations of frostbolt spam as rotation. If you think the game would be better with rotations like that… maybe your issue is that you cannot handle a rotation that includes 4 buttons + cooldowns.

I have 6-7 keys binded, the rest ive clicked and it works just fine, np playing most of my classes very well in pve, ive done this since ive started wow in 2006 and im not ashamed of it either

eh, i would gladly take 15 buttons. I think thats probably around the sweet spot.
However im currently playing Monk which has:
6 Rotational
1 Interrupt
1 Stun
1 Disable
3 Heals
4 Movement
1 Trinket Break
2 CC
2 Burst
2 Defensive
And then a bunch of smaller stuff.

I think the total is 26 Abilities that are VITAL to use in arenas, And i chose as many passives as i could without gimping myself.
Thats too much, and theres other classes with even more.
They seem to have just added small ability after ability for the sake of it instead of combining them

That’s not the point i made.

Which is why he didn’t care about the point you made because it’s irrelevant to his situation.

Everyone just tells him to play hunter cause they have barely any buttons, kindda like you can see here:

The amount of abilities and modifiers in this game is a bloody meme. And every time someone says it’s maybe a bit over the top there’s a bunch of clickers, bad players, or people who deliberately misrepresent what he’s asking for. Sometimes we get all 3 at the same time neatly packaged together.

Of course he is. Why wouldn’t he?

My keyboard is full. That’s all I can say.

Warrior, especially fury is 4 button rotation. Frost DK too

so just click stuff

Play fmage, problem solved mashallah

Whenever I have taken a long break, I’d usually level a character from scratch like Breaths suggested. It makes it far less overwhelming, especially with all the changes to talents, spells, abilities and what not between expansions (especially if you missed a few of those).

Some classes/specs are less daunting than others, that’s for sure. I’m guessing there must be a few that would be to your liking  Hope you’ll have fun, welcome back!

I can definitely appreciate that there is a learning curve with this game especially for new players. If you find that your chosen spec uses too many buttons, its worth researching other classes or specs that use fewer buttons to get the same job done.

Devistation Evoker for example is a class with relatively fewer buttons, but interesting ways to optimize those few buttons you have. So there’s at least still some degree of skill cap with that class while not overwhelming you with so many abilities.

The specs have more depth now.
Yes, it does mean it’s not easy to pick up and imediatly perform on, but it does feel rewarding when you understand how everything works.

Isn’t mage just spamming blink and frost bolt ?

eh mean cen play this game joystick not kidding try it raid work suprise 2

People who complain WoW has too many buttons never played FFXIV.

The number of actual damage or healing skills (not buffs/debuffs) they have there is crazy…

Psh, amateur… learn to use your feet too!

Balance druid. Not really that many buttons to press.

But it has some other degenerate gameplay going on, like cancelling your starlord & arcane pulsar to get more DPS, lol.

Euhm euhm wich character needs 25 + keybinds dont say mage rlly. Maybe rogue or brewmaster monks but f
The rest mmm.

Make a talent build that uses less buttons where possible. This solves the issue, your character just won’t be optimal.

The only people who will take issue with this are sweaty tryhards who obsess over what the top 1% do or their favourite streamer/content creator does.
