I don’t know - it feels like on-use trinkets are a little ubiquitous. At least for certain specs top trinkets are both on-use and it’s kind of annoying for a bunch of reasons.
For my mage I had to come up with 2 new keybinds to get a second on-use trinket and… an on-use weapon because for some reasons this is now meta as if passive effects weapons were bad.
It’s not “skill issue” or anything - just a little annoying - normally one passive and one active trinkets were fine but with 20 sec cooldown between on use trinkets, there is a little silly problem that your 2nd trinket might be just desynced with your cooldowns, possibly being a dps loss over what sims would suggest.
And don’t get me started on belorelos - a ranged dps trinket that requires you to go into melee range?? Shame. Imagine a melee dps trinket that makes you go 20 yards from the target - it’s this kind of fun.
Thankfully, my mage snatched Pip’s badge so I no longer have to torture myself with double active trinkets.
I mean, it’s only a problem to me due to the button bloat on some classes (mage) - on evoker it’s a little easier since it has less buttons but still - annoying.
Well yes… You have 2 trinket slots… Some trinkets have a on use abilities. Yes that needs us all to make 2 new keybinds for those alone.
All my classes I play with has that. But I use the same for all three of them.
I use Hekili… And if Hekili tells me too use my trinket or weapon ability like in the case for my mage. I do it without question <.< its never been a dps loss to do so.
to reiterate - I don’t remember, playing all this time in WoW - having top trinket choices with “2 on-use” and frankly - the availbility of trinkets is that it’s easier to grab on use trinkets than passive ones (like pip or augury are either highly contested or rare).
Heck, I remember many patches having 2 passive trinkets as top choices
Is it a bad thing though? Do you want less on use trinkets in your rotation and more passive ones to not worry about?
Remember there is a shared cooldown with trinkets on use too. So you only have to worry about adding one at the time in your rotation. You use one. And your other ‘‘On use trinket’’ gets a little cooldown too.
if you have like 17 damaging abilities + utility + macros and then you have to also remember about 2 stupid on use trinkets, one being a nuisance… and an on use weapon. then yes it’s a bad thing.
that’s literally the problem I mentioned in OP. Come on :'D
Back in the day you could macro 2 on-use trinkets to use at the same time and you’d call it a day - now it’s not that easy
Also - remember WoW devs sometimes like to add silly things like on-use rings - so really idk what can we expect next expac - on use ring, on use trinket x 2 - on use weapon and on use neck? ;D
It’s that bad though? I mean i am no pro or good player. But its never been that much a bother to me I needed to make a forum post about making an extra key bind for a trinket about it… ><
And I play Arcane mage too.
I mean, if you don’t use any macros or don’t keybind things like pots, healthstones etc. then maybe you don’t have a button problem
Frankly, on my demonic priest I have 2 on use trinkets but I don’t have macros or anything so I don’t care there.
But generally it is annoying to me.
Not everything can make it into the keybinds and macros no… Learned that early on <.< I would need one of those fancy gamer mouses with 20 side buttons and extended keyboard addition if I wanted to keybind and macro it all…
Some gets priority into my keybindings and others il keep clicking:p
well, I’m silly enough to keybind everything without a fancy gaming mouse or extended keyboard - so I’m in trouble atm - one more keybind and I’m lost lol. My gripe comes from the fact some of my keybinds are now incredibly silly.
Most on use macro times very well with damage cds. I have most of time trinket macro with damage cd combined.
Best case you can slot them at the end of your “use all buffs” macro.
But yeah, on-use trinkets is just annoying.
In aberrus I was a Very Happy Mage and a Very Happy Paladin and a Very Happy Evoker with all having 2 passive trinkets. Now I’m in a keybind hell.
On a side note - I sometimes think about people who wrote on forums they hate on use trinkets so much they equip them and never use them.
I mean we have good players and bad players but we still should remember 2 on use trinkets CAN be a skill issue, so a healthy balance between passives and on-use ones should be maintained imo.
Have you tried to not give a damn about that and just take one stat-stick?
As you said, a lot of double use trinkets desinc with the kit, playing around that often is not worth the effort.
I usually do 95-99 parses in M+ and never use more than one on-use trinket.
For two extra binds?
how is this funny when I’m already at my limit and I have to do binds like alt+5 to get by?
I look at my 48 Keybinds, around 40 of them used and laugh
Seems like I have room for some more

Another DEFF-CD and one Raid-Buff in form of a totem plz!
I’m partial to passive trinkets meself, strictly on the grounds of being a lazy sod. :3
You can make a cast sequence Marco.
Press your whole burst rotation in one button.
I think there is a bloat overall and having on-use trinkets is just one more thing to add up to this.
Edit: grammar
It’s more like - where is the acceptable limit of “buttons” for a character - for me, when they reworked frost mage last season I was already seething, having to add a few new buttons In past expacs I would sometimes just go for passive talent alternatives (now there are no real alternatives, even if they were just worse)…
See, we are human beings and unless you are top 1% skilled players, having more and more buttons will actually be lowering your overall performance, compared to “technically worse” passive talents.
It’s just how it is - we have usually a limited scope of concentration.
And I’ll be honest - when I get a new on-use trinket, compared to having a passive one previously, I usually have some time where I straightforwardly forget to use it, despite having it on a bind etc. xD
So I wouldn’t call myself “lazy” for preferring passive trinkets in a game where you basically need AT LEAST 2 and a half bars of keybinds to be “proper”
