Top 5 Worst Types of People to RP with?

This is one my worst peeves. I detest it whenever I see someone use, and continue to use, 3+ paragraph emotes. Seen it happen numerous times in RP-PvP and other DM events. Like it’s already hard to pay attention when you have a raid group of RPers emoting stuff; and then Mr. Special comes in with the 3+ paragraph text bomb, describing every action in minuscule detail.

It’s fine for once in a while, like if you manage to get a killing blow on a boss type of character for example, but not when performing a simple action like aiming and shooting a rifle.

Seems like kind of a negative thread, but whatever.

People who take roleplaying way too seriously. Elitists, purists, whatever. You name it. The ones that gloat about how great their profiles are, how eloquently crafted their emotes are, and constantly mock people for roleplaying the “wrong way”.

That person alone takes up all five slots so there’s no need to come up with more.

This is the roleplaying equivalent of replacing every word in your sentence with a synonym from thesaurus. Or scrambling for alternatives to “said” when writing a novel. Perhaps some of you remember this infamous line from a fairly well-known series of books:

“Snape!” ejaculated Slughorn …

I’ll take a short and concise emote anyday over a two-paragraph long description about how your character smiles, breathes, smirks, puts his hand in his pocket, takes out a coin and thinks about his father who also had coins, then takes out a cigarette, puts it between his lips (which are scarred, don’t forget to mention that), lights it, and finally decides to order his drink while “pushing back his raven-haired locks, his storm-gray eyes twinkling in the dimly lit tavern”.

No. Just no.

People who take whatever thing they find interesting OOC, copy it word for word into roleplay and don’t take into account the realities of the setting. See: Vrykul roleplayers or viking humans. The simple fact is that humans in WoW aren’t shown to be raiders and barbarians from sword and sorcery. There’s no excuse to speak (Insert Scandinavian language here) IC and talk about Viking Valhalla (At least say Halls of Valor…) because you’re too creatively bankrupt to make an interesting character within the setting of the game.

As an aside, if you’re inclined to be Conan the Barbarian, just make an orc. The race is practically perfect for it.

Can add an “s”, becomes Valhallas, which is another name of Halls of Valor.

The flip-side are statue RPers. I’d rather have a guy explain how he takes a coin out of his pocket for two entire paragraph if it also involves the character’s posture, demeanor and expression.

There’s people who RP “quiet” characters but don’t emote at all while their character says nothing, resulting in 10 minute pauses where the character doesn’t show any sign of life. Incredibly awkward / hard to RP with.

I find this especially prevalent with the whole “Uldum/Tanaris-born” humans that seem to litter Stormwind lately. I’ve already had a rant about that in another thread ( think it was the pet peeve thread) so won’t start that here again.

And then Blizzard came and did it themselves.

I overlooked some Uldum/Tanaris humans RPing the other day and some words they typed in /say were literal Arabic words. Can’t say I’ve cringed that hard in a some time.

Perhaps people forgot that there are/were no humans in Uldum. But Cataclysm passed quite some time ago so maybe people think that the Tol’vir are actually a tribe of humans living in walmart pyramids :joy:

Oh, hey it was made by that weird pandaren dragon former shado-pan RPer.

Oh my god there is mention of an Uldum Kingdom. No, that does not exist!

The thing is though, when I see it, I sometimes wonder whether or not I should correct them and say that it does not fit in the setting. But when I see with how much detail their profiles are usually made, I can only come to the conclusion that those people are perfectly aware what they’re doing, and that any attempt from me trying to correct them will only result in me getting a headache and being grumpy the rest of the evening.

Normally I am of the sort that tries to live and let live in rp, but it is rather jarring when it is something that’s so outside of the setting. If you want to be a desert human, atleast be a damn Wastewander that arrived during the Third War instead of pretending there’s an entire Arabic-theme culture that has existed there for ages.

I suppose that’s true, but there’s usually a reason behind it. Some people are just new to roleplay, shy, or otherwise insecure about their emotes for one reason or another. Therefore I try not to be too harsh on any “quiet” characters, especially given how prevalent elitism on AD is these days. It’s like making fun of the shy kid at the back of the class, as if they don’t already have enough on their plate.

Befriending these people and encouraging them to step out of their comfort zone in a more positive manner works a lot better than calling attention to their quiet demeanor OOC and making it out to be a bigger problem than it is.

I think that an issue with this many people have is those who also advertise this in their TRP by making their character equally shy or filling the OOC info with their own shyness.

Then in alot of cases when you do try to invite them in and interact you are met with…nothing. No effort to participate, which can come across more as a lack of interest than shyness. And I say this as a generally shy person OOC. I know it can be scary sometimes, but some effort is also needed.

And a rampant futa ERPer…

Leper Gnomes.

Racks back bolt lever.

Sounds like a major case of “So you can be a dragon, a mage, a pandaren, a timetraveller or a deviant, which will it be?”

Yes.

These sorts of people are generally what degrade communities and generally hubs in general over time, because they use throwaway excuses like “shyness” and other “conditions” (detracting from people with genuine issues no less!)

The simple fact is they’re usually lazy and want to be spoonfed rp by someone else, they don’t want to take any initiative because of “effort” or the best line “gosh i sub to this game to enjoy it not make it another job.”
