It’s usually Elves that try really hard to avoid being an Elf.
I thusly turn Takki’hira into an Elfaboo, as avoiding being like the norm of your race is really cool if you’re devoid of anything interesting than wanting to stick out in the most ham-fisted away possible.

Now I am not an expert on metallurgy/blacksmithing, but didn’t they do that cause their steel was inferior or something or because the blade was so thin that else it’d break?

They didn’t have access to good iron in Japan, no.
It meant they had to use techniques like that one in order to make good, strong weapons. Whether the end result is better or worse than weapons made with better materials that do not require such lengthy forging techniques to make is a, uh, controversial topic.

While I dislike this too, I’ve noticed it’s used also commonly used as an excuse to make either homophobic or transphobic remarks.
Ultimately, it’s not a huge deal more difficult for me to suspend my disbelief with a male character portrayed using the female model than it is for me to do so when it comes to using the butch, uber masculine model to portray a slim man.

I’m a 27 year old Darkspear’dorei (blood elf fan for you kim’jael). I draw glyphs and arcane circles on my stone tablet, and spend my days perfecting my art and doing superior sin’dorei activites. (revering the Light, being glad for the Sunwell, practicing pyromancy)
I train with my sin’dorei warblade every day, this superior weapon can cut clean through dwarven steel because it is reforged with magic, hatred and a burning need for revenge and is vastly superior to any other weapon on Azeroth. I earned my sword license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day.
I speak Thalassian fluently, both In the Silvermoon and the Sin’dorc dialect, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about Thalassion history and their code of formality, which I follow 100%
When I get my Thalassian visa, I am moving to Eversong to attend a prestigious Academy to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become an magister for Sunfury Spire or a blood knight!
I own several robes, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Quel’Thalas (the High Home for you non-thalassian speaking pigs), so I can fit in easier. I bow to my elders and seniors and speak thalassian as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond.
