Heartbreaking interaction I had with a “no-addons” Andy at the beach…
I noticed a grown man in his 30s sobbing at the sight of some children building sand castles.
I noticed a grown man in his 30s sobbing at the sight of some children building sand castles.
Worried, I approached him and asked, “What’s wrong, dude?”
“It’s just not fair,” he replied, “everyone is able to build a beautiful sand castle except me.”
Noticing a small pile of sand in front of him, I asked, “well what do you think is holding you back?”
He pointed to a bucket with a small plastic shovel. “Well, look at the advantages these other people have! Why are they trivializing the art of building sand castles with fancy tools. Let me show you how sand castles are meant to be made.”
The man, still crying, extends his hand and picks up a single grain of sand, placing it onto the pile in front of him.
“I am not going to let those fancy tools make my art FOR me,” he said, “this is REAL sand castle making.” Again, he picked up a single grain of sand and put it on the pile.
“Well wait a second,” I responded, “isn’t it common to use simple tools like a shovel and bucket to build sand castles? There’s some right next to you that nobody is using.”
“NO!” he shouted. “I don’t want to use those!”
At this point, the children next to him had finished their first set of sand castles and were ready to build more.
He continued, “And do you know what is unfair? Beach sand is so small! It wasn’t designed to be made into sand castles the REAL way!”
“Alright, man. Well I hope you are able to finish your project before the tide comes. Good luck!” I responded, walking away.
Heading back to my car I heard the clash of the ocean waves. I turned back to check on the sobbing man. Suddenly, a tide rushed in, destroying the tiny pile of sand in front of him. However, right next to his pile, the children’s sand castles remained.
“NO!” he shouted, jumping to his feet and kicking the children’s sand castles over, “IT’S NOT FAIR!”
