I agree with this post. I think in the end torghast and islands end up in the same situation, once you cap them (get your bis rank 4 or get AP “cap”) you stop doing them, and then it doesn’t matter, but the journey has been wildly different.
Islands you could get all done and capped in 1-2 weeks if you really grinded it, or you could just do 3 a week and be set within a month.
3 islands took around 15 minutes if you were slacking, so you’re looking at 15 min a week for 4-6 weeks to be capped.
Torghast on the other hand takes on average 45 min for most specs (45 min on mage, less if i can get a good group, hunter can solo in 15-20 min), which you have to do twice a week for i think it has been 6 weeks or smth from start until you could get your rank 4 bis.
And that is not to mention getting there you had to spend that amount of time on multiple layers to build up to layer 8, so playing this from release you’re looking at 61.5=9 + a couple of hours building up layers, as the bare minimum to get 1 rank 4 bis.
Now compare that to being able to cap islands in 15min6 = 1½ hours over 1½ months, or 8 hours if you wanted to grind it out week 1. (talking the soft cap of 75 here, not the 80 grind as most players didn’t bother, barely any bothered for 75 either).
This single aspect has been enough to ruin torghast for me, however i do get the appeal, but i think it’s important to remember that if you enjoy torghast, you’re gonna like it more than islands, duh, but if you look at it for what it is to many; a side objective to improve your gear so you can do real content, then it really sucks.
