Torghast is worse than Islands

I agree with this post. I think in the end torghast and islands end up in the same situation, once you cap them (get your bis rank 4 or get AP “cap”) you stop doing them, and then it doesn’t matter, but the journey has been wildly different.

Islands you could get all done and capped in 1-2 weeks if you really grinded it, or you could just do 3 a week and be set within a month.
3 islands took around 15 minutes if you were slacking, so you’re looking at 15 min a week for 4-6 weeks to be capped.
Torghast on the other hand takes on average 45 min for most specs (45 min on mage, less if i can get a good group, hunter can solo in 15-20 min), which you have to do twice a week for i think it has been 6 weeks or smth from start until you could get your rank 4 bis.
And that is not to mention getting there you had to spend that amount of time on multiple layers to build up to layer 8, so playing this from release you’re looking at 61.5=9 + a couple of hours building up layers, as the bare minimum to get 1 rank 4 bis.
Now compare that to being able to cap islands in 15min
6 = 1½ hours over 1½ months, or 8 hours if you wanted to grind it out week 1. (talking the soft cap of 75 here, not the 80 grind as most players didn’t bother, barely any bothered for 75 either).

This single aspect has been enough to ruin torghast for me, however i do get the appeal, but i think it’s important to remember that if you enjoy torghast, you’re gonna like it more than islands, duh, but if you look at it for what it is to many; a side objective to improve your gear so you can do real content, then it really sucks.

Naah, I never had any fun in islands, while torghast is kind of fun when I become op around the 13th floor.

Not objecting to this, but a quick check - are you doing Torghast on alts? If you don’t currently have alts, are you looking forward to doing Torghast on them? Because if you aren’t, well, that shows the extent of fun there.

I was doing islands on alts. Yes, they were mindless. But not more mindless than world quests. Just some variety and some small rewards. Torghast, on the other hand, is offensively worse. In my opinion, of course.

Islands were not challenging

Not for the people that don’t have necessary skill or confidence to queue PvP expeditions.

I always queued for those, fun as hell with the buffs inside, easier to finish, faster to cap the azerite.

Stop talking overall. Like, in your personal life too, stop opening your mouth.

I do, but only for ashes. TC on main only for now. But I hated islands from the first one I stepped in in BfA, while Torghast is kind of fun because I become overpowered towards the end of the run, especially in TC. Last night in layer 7 I did a 2 million crit on the final boss, man that felt good.

Fair enough.

The idea of Torghast is neat, the execution poor.

For example, why is a MM hunter only given BM powers that are pet dependent?
At first I thought this was mere bug or coincidence but 10 runs and every run is it’s kill command this, bestial wrath this and I’m like I’m MM FFS!

And the soulash is unrewarding sure you can craft a legendary with it and even upgrade it. But doing lengthy dungeons week after week only to get a smal increase in ILVL on your legendary is frustrating AF!

And here’s the fun part! YOU’RE FORCED TO DO IT! sure the command table has some rare quest that provide a few soulash but they seem to be unbeatable no matter how high level your followers are. and what those missions only appear once a week? granting 100 soulash meaning you’d have to do them 15 weeks on end in order to get enough soulash to craft a legendary without doing Torghast…

Torghast also has no current replay value post-lockout it’s just another time gated event you have to do every week otherwise you’re behind on your materials that are mandatory for both pve and pvp progression.

Add gear rewards, titles, cosmetics, pets, mounts whatever.

The entirety of the MAW seems like a giant sinkhole where people can do various task that ultimately has little to no value.

Shadowlands isn’t all that great as people claim it to be.
Sure it’s better than BFA but is that enough to be praising it like it’s an amazing experience? for it really isn’t…

If I’m completely honest… this feels like the new star wars trilogy…

Cash-in on nostalgia by bringing back various populair characters good and evil and throw in an even bigger more bad fish than N’zoth at them.

How is this like the new trilogy?

Bring back han, chewie, luke etc. barrely do anything with them…
Bring back the death star but twice its size and more powerfulll ( old = litch king, new = Jailor )

It’s bad story writing and rehashing old content.

Sure there’s new exposition added like the zones and their own little stories, but they’re short and even those aren’t that great.

The arts department did a great job though, just like they did in BFA and that’s probably it.

Sure you’re all still on the hype train but I guarantee if they don’t change things up real soon it’s going to be a BFA disaster all over again

Islands were not soloable. That alone makes it a thousand times crappier than Torghast.

I still remember how all the youtubers were praising Torghast so much before launch. Specially preach.

So… what happend?

It was self evident, sadly nowdays people dont demand actual content like dungeons, but only ilvl

Well,Torghast is God sent for them as they can fill streaming hours with long boring content.

I did Layer 1 twisting corridors yesterday and by god it was FUN. I did it twice. One time I got to floor 18, but I was getting oneshotted by the boss. This was my mistake - I picked the power that gave me 15% damage per new floor, but -5% max HP. At the end, I had 19k HP, it was “oneshot or be oneshotted”. Even the boss on the 17th floor oneshotted me once, but I came back and I killed it before it had the chance to oneshot me. It was FUN, even if the run failed.

Then I went again. This time it was a matter of pride. I was making tactical choices, long term investments. By the end, I had permanent wings, permanent seraphim buff, permanent hammer of wrath spam, almost permanent divine storm spam, I was walking and oneshotting entire floors. It was so much FUN.

Then on the last boss, I died once because I stayed within a swirlie. “How hard can it hit me”, I thought. Well, it was a oneshot. Came back and destroyed the boss completely. And I got nothing out of it, which was in a way the best part. Fun was had, and it was for fun’s sake. Not for some extrinsic reward. I will of course pursue the mount. But it’s not my main motivation.

I was so hyped for Torghast, now I dread the weekly reset, because now I have to do it again to get ash.

I really hope blizz will make it more rewarding at some point soon.

Blizz changed it completely from what they played. Changes no one really asked for as always. Was at it’s peak in alpha and just went downhill from there tbh

I find torghast too long and boring but i could never say it’s worse than islands for me.

Torghast has some brief fun moments with anima powers while islands had nothing at all, the only positive islands has over torghast is the time to complete which is kinda irelevant when you consider islands were not a do 1 and done thing, it was still shorter sure but not enough for it to be classed as better than torghast.

Both Torghast and Island expeditions are WORST for me.

I’m very missed MOP’s best scenarios for 3 players run
MOP’s scenarios are much fun

But islands were horrible gogogo rushfest which is not fun. It was a chore.
I didn’t really do islands, I tend not do “chores” in game.

Torghast, I can go on discord with some mates (they didn’t play BFA) and we can have some fun for a while. Take it easy, chat, compare the different perks. If my mates aren’t on then I can solo it for a quest or just for something to do.
I’ve only done it a handful of times but enjoying it so far.

I’m hoping they do things to keep Torghast interesting by adding new difficulites, Wings, Rewards. It has potential.

Feel the same way and why i will stop playing when my sub runs out.

It is like they have all these good ideas on the drawing board, but then kinda runs out of steam when they have to actually make it happen. Like they make the content watered down on purpose. Just so they can add to it later, and call it an update.

Because the main thing you interact with in torghast is your own class. And more or less all of them are boring to play. Classes are designed around difficult encounters, therefore classes are often boring or easy while the content you do is harder.

As long as there is no big rework of how gameplay/combat works this will stay the way it is. Or make torghast a boss focused instance.

Why was the mage tower so liked? Because it was very difficult mechanically to succeed as the bosses where hard. That was the challenge + some nice rewards aka very good looking style gear.

Torghast revolves around boring hack and slash of mobs, while 50% of the time goes into walking (as if we didnt already have enough of this) and the other 50% is dealing with boring mobs, playing boring combat.

So either make classes much more interesting with a significant revamp on how combat or classes work OR make content like torghast/islands, etc. BOSS focused like the mage tower was.
If your resources arent enough to design more bosses, well then hire more people to do it. Even though i hated legion with its chores and alt unfriendliness, i still loved the expansion in some way. And the best part were the mage tower challenges.
