And yes, classic and retail are two very different games, they just share the same foundation.
Why would anyone level in classic, if you could just buy a boost or level up in retail for 1/3rd of the time it take in classic?
One of the big selling points of classic, is that everything require some effort to do, and when it requires effort, people tend to be much more invested in their characters.

as much as i’d like this original character to go back to his darkspear kngit champion AV farming days. No. He’s evolved, he’s gained achievements and saw the rise and fall of bad expansions (cata and warlords) but at the same time enjoyed wrath and MoP.
it’s not possible to go backwards, although his 400 in unarmed would be nice to see again and he’d save time rep farming as he has most of them
