Now, everyone’s been yelling about this for a while. But there’s a good reason for it. The transmog restrictions should be lifted. Allowing certain items to be hidden was a great start, but there’s still the rest of the restrictions. I want to use white and grey quality gear for transmog, and I want to use transmog from other armor types. If NPCs can do it, then why can’t players? Look at Tirion Fordring’s outfit from vanilla. He’s a paladin, but his set isn’t all plate. There’s cloth and maybe leather there, for example. What if a player wants to have a similar outfit? Can’t be done. Many NPCs can have cool looking transmogs, which the players can’t use due to transmog restrictions. There’s the argument that it might be more difficult to identify a player by class if this happens, but that is completely redundant. You can already do that.
It’s not a terrible idea. What if I want my warrior to have a cloth hood? Or perhaps a hunter with leather gauntlets? Of course some people will be like the example you posted, where a warlock wears full plate. But I don’t think it’s that bad. After all, why couldn’t a user of the Fel utilize heavy armor?
One thing the game has lost over the past few years is it’s Class identity when they stopped making Class sets. This example is just trying to drive it further away.
But I’m up for “certain items” being made cross armour type… but not everything.
Says who? A warlock could decide that, hey, if anyone gets within range of me, I’ll get gutted! I should wear plate!
So many NPCs wear armor from several different types. Yet with those NPCs, you immediately know what class it is. Particularly with plate wearing individuals, those NPCs usually have cloth or leather mixed in, and it looks good. Why can’t players do that?
Edit: Also forgot to mention, there’s so much mail gear from vanilla that would be perfect for plate users, but plate users can’t use them. These items were actually made for plate wearers to use before level 40, but now they can’t be used anymore.
I don’t care about elves so I can’t comment about that.
Nothing in the lore says that warlocks can only exclusively only wear cloth. There’s also many warlock NPCs that don’t wear exclusively cloth. They have other armor types mixed in. There’s nothing wrong with that. You’re basing your idea on the fact that the game says they can only wear cloth. Just because something was set about the game years ago does not mean that it has to be like that forever. Warlocks only being able to wear cloth is a gameplay thing, and how many gameplay things have changed? I don’t see anything wrong with a warlock wanting to have, say, a leather belt transmogged because it looks good.
Also warlocks can already wear some plate such as the Stormwind set from the garrison, so lifting the transmog restrictions won’t change anything regarding this.
Except when you make a Warlock on the character creation screen.
Look, stop trying to ruin the game for other players just because you want to play dressing up your dollies.
At the very least, ask Blizzard to put some better transmog into the game, rather than trying to break what little Class identification we have left by removing their boundaries.
That’s not lore, and I already addressed this in my previous comment.
How is this going to ruin the game for you? Oh no, this rogue has a plate shoulder! Is it really that bad that in RUINS the game? If people dressing up their dollies is what breaks the game, then you’ve other problems.
Time to hide my pants as per standard in Lion’s Pride Inn.
A select few whites indeed look well when worn. Say, the TBC fishing sack whites, while meant to be vendored, could be an easy way to get a monocle mog for your banker.
Imagines a rogue fighting in a golden robe adorned with rare jewelry
Isn’t it classy?
Because some requests are just ridiculous… this is one of them.
I cry a little inside every time I see a Warrior running around in the Purple Retribution set which was a Dungeon drop from TBC. It’s like, why does the Warrior want to look like a Paladin?!? Why not just roll a Paladin?
It ruins my enjoyment of the game seeing, other characters running around in out of place armour. It completely kills the fantasy… dead!
It’s just like seeing people riding cats around Azeroth. A mount that glows up and has nothing to do with the game… oh and Meows all the time.
Please don’t forget, I completely agree with all your other points in your original post… I just can’t behind this one.
I do not want people running around with out of place armor, though that is already possible. I just want to have nice looking transmogs. A point I’ve made before: Tirion Fordring from vanilla. Look at a picture of him. What do you see? A paladin. Is he wearing only plate? No, not at all. Does it look out of place? No. It looks very much to be in place with the game.
What if I want to have a similar looking character? Perhaps a poor warrior who could not afford full plate or a weathered paladin. NPCs are like this, they are not out of place.
Now of course, if this were implemented, many people would make ridiculous outfits with this, but that would not be any more people than we currently already have. People who would make out of place transmogs already have out of place transmogs. Those who want cool transmogs will utilize this system to make cool transmogs.
