Trust-issues, all progression lost

I know this is most likely completely futile. But I have trust-issues with Blizzard and I’m still stuck in limbo after all this time. I don’t dare to invest time on official servers by fear of loosing all my progress again. I’m writing this in the anstronomically small chance that I might get all my characters back or at the very least try and prevent this from happening again. And also just to ventilate…

Background:

I levelled a bunch of characters, had them geared, got epicmount and professions. After a longer break (due to carreer) I logged back in but all my characters where gone from the servers character-screen. I wrote a ticket asking where they were. And after some back and forth I found out that my characters where on a different Mograine-server, one that was progressing away from vanilla.

I said of course that I wanted them back but customer-service said that they couldn’t do anything about it. I was advised to ventilate my loss on the forums and just give up on all my characters.

When I pressed the matter and refused to mark ticket as “solved” they responded with that it could be considered employee harassment and THAT they could act upon. Smh…

So anyway, all my characters are now still to this day untouched but are in effect dead and lost to me. They are on MoP currently.

And so. Two things. I don’t dare to invest any time seeing that I can loose all of it on official-servers. We have no idea what will happend in Anniversary for example. Spending hundreds of hours and building characters just to have it all gone is a dealbreaker to me.

Secondly, you could’ve atleast sent an email to your customers stating that you would move it all from vanilla to progression. Or have had the customers choose actively to move from vanilla. Not the default of moving it all in silence to a different server and expect people on longer breaks to read blogposts and actively guard their characters.

I’m not expecting anything at all really. Just some customer-feedback I guess…

Wtf have i just read. It’s not blizzards fault that you have been absent for years. They offered a copy to era.

Btw. the characters belong to blizzard. They can do what ever they want and you accepted that back then. What you got is the fun playing the game.

It was your fault.

2 Facts:

Clone for Era re gone, Blizzard cant help.

Your progress isnt gone… you are only on the new addon with your Chars :joy:

“I was afk for years and now my characters are still all present, but on a type of server I do not prefer.”

P.S.: All Anniversary servers except hardcore are progressing to TBC, it has been known since before they launched and there is nothing ambiguous about it. You “daring” invest time in it assuming there will be some surprise, unannounced transfer to Era would have been silly, so you did well not “spending hundreds of hours”.

Even worse:

He went afk, and his characters followed the progress from Vanilla. He already KNEW they would become TBC and then WotLK characters, as there had never been any mention beforehand of any Era version.

There was a 15 month window to clone characters, but OP failed that. Instead, he could have levelled multiple characters to 60 by now, if he wanted to play Era.

But guess it is easier to play the “Special snowflake” card.

Totaly understand you. Got my clasic charracters from years ago removed, noticed when came back from active classic at the moment, wanted to experience it again after tbc 2nd wave, only to find out that they were removed. For all toxic haters, things you see as normal, not normal and only show how much abuse you accept. Blizzard should have made few servers and kept all the data. its data in db and its not a that big deal to keep it. It only shows how much they think of their user. There are many examples, where i have an account, made unlock and i do not have to worry i will loose it.

I agree with you. When player who abandoned the game before TBC was released, enters the game, he should be presented the option to keep his old characters on Era or transfer them to Pandaria. Or even better: they should have cloned ALL characters for free. Developers just went the lazy and greedy route of implementing temporary solution and milking some money from already paying customers. That’s understandable, but they could do better work.

Yeah blizzard could have given free copy characters and doing it auto. But i guess that could upset others players that dont want to copy and waste character slots on their account etc etc.

To op’s point. Your character “data” is not gone. The problem is that your “data” have been updated over and over again to the current ver. you got new currency, new talents, armor models are different etc etc.

So i think if they sent you to era even if you didnt really do anything “new” would break the whole game.

I dont work at blizzard and i do have “trust issues” when it comes to updates or matiance work. From experience in anniversary and sod everytime a new phase or update came out the game broke. Even when mop was updating it broke era and anniversary servers just like 2 weeks ago.
