I watched Taliesin&Evitel video about this change.
Taliesin made an interesting hypothesis why it did happen.
According to what he said the change is so bizzare, so strange and targets things that didn’t offend anyone. No woke people ranted about those paintings or Consorts. So why they were changed?
Well Taliesin said there might a story behind those things. Like some Dev-Bro in his mid 30’s made a painting that might have been actualy based on someone. Perhaps one of his objects of desire.
Perhaps another Dev-Bro who bought himself a new car and started his cube crawling, targeted a pair of female employees that he called his Twin Consorts.
In other words the change of those names are not due to virtue signaling, but due to some disgusting internal input of some degenerates that clearly had a terrible taste of humor.
It is entirely possible such things did take place. Although those changes do not reflect the feelings of some current Blizzard employees, especially Women.
According to Polish Streamer named Nexos who is the biggest WoW content creator on Twitch and Youtube for his country came into posession of a list containing some interesting information about the future of the game via e-mail.
He was most surprised to read that at least 3 people in Blizzard are following his channel. Which means that foreign content creators are also being watched.
He said that Women at Blizzard are not fans of the change and stated that “WoW is only a game and female characters there can even run around in bare underwear because they are just pixels and not real people.”
This means that Women at Blizzard know the meaning of fun and can separate it from real world issues that have befallen at the company they work in.
My own opinion about it is that those changes are simply unnecessary. I have not seen yet anyone that was happy about them. Though the idea that old paintings in the game were made by some perverts does make me feel a bit uneasy.
According to Nexos more changes of this nature are coming. And yet his info states that Blizzard is setting for full course to repair their relations with playerbase, repair the game and regain the trust.
World of Warcraft is set for 3 more expansions under the banner of Blizzard. The main condition that is to be met revolves around those expansions being good. If they won’t be, most likely whole Warcraft franchise will be handed over to another studio.
Those changes are simply waste of time. Time that could be used to make much more significant things.
