Twin Consorts and Big Love Rocket renamed

i find it ironic that all of that was in the game for a younger playerbase and is removed now when majority are 30+.

All this is part of their sanitization to appease China with their draconian law being implemented to clamp down on sexuality in games.

Blizz can’t risk their cash cow.

Sorry, can’t have names like this in a christian video game.

consort - a wife/husband/partner/companion, generally of a ruling monarch.
Im really struggling to think of what could possibly be ‘offensive’ about this?

As for the rocket, its clearly sax backwards so blizz are just thumbing their nose at the enforced changes being demanded of them. kudos for that blizz, well done. Whos forcing these changes is unknown.

Wheres the removal of the woman employee that said ‘the whites need to be stopped’. How come her references in-game aren’t removed and her employment terminated?

China is playing a completely different, pre-neutered, version of the game. So I highly doubt changes to the Western client are made for China.

I’m more with Dottie on this, I guess they are trying to put in as many changes as possible to show the court that they are actively working on removing all sorts of “misogynist content” from their game in hopes to get a more favourable process.

These changes honestly take it past the point of absurd given what it implies for the direction they’re going in. Not only is it changing the name of one of the most iconic items in the game but it also heavily limits npc designs going forward while inviting comments about all sorts of other npc’s not having their names changed.

I could understand changing the painting(s) and some names associated with past problematic employees but with this there’s a very reasonable question to be asked in regards to why these changes are necessary and who they even are done for.

Considering Chinas recent clampdowns on gaming as a whole then it’d be a bit of a suicide move to do things in order to pander to that market.

Renaming Mac’Aree was a good idea (the name sounded stupid anyway), changing the paintings was a bit useless expecially since they weren’t something you saw constantly ingame (I play since more than 12 years and I didn’t even remember they existed) and this…well this is just stupid.

But whatever, I can live with that.

plus the chinese version is, well…in chinese, so renaming things in english is another category.
imo the reason companies go full overboard when trying to cater to sjw is that no sane person can relate to what these people want, and they ofc don’t get any work done (or are even allowed to join a position of relevance)

I think this is particularly weird and can see no problem unless it’s used as bad American slang. The Duke of Edinburgh was the current Queen’s consort and has always been used as such in the UK.

I can understand renaming the big pink love rocket, though I always thought it hilarious and part of the jokey naming thing that Blizzard used to do cleverly. I also understand renaming ingame stuff that was named after people who did bad things … but I wish they would leave the innuendo.

Probably has to do with some associating it with being subservient to a man or male character. Only reason i can think of but even so it’s going to heavily limit writing characters going forward. It more or less implies that they won’t be writing female npc’s from a specific direction and thereby remove that potential nuance to a character.

How dare you use such language on this forum!
I am aghast!

Okay, who wants to explain to Blizzard that “sexual innuendo in game” is not the same as “sexual harrassment of employees,” and that people generally tend to care for the latter while giving zero hoot about the former?

I don’t want you to rename Sinestra to Deathwing’s Best Gal Pal, I want you to investigate and fire people who contributed to the harrassment!

So no sexuality from here on out in the game then? That’s very… christian I guess?

This is getting silly now. I agree totally with removing certain NPCs and place names from the game (was a stupid idea to have them in the game in the first place imho). And I feel that covering up some of the more sexualised images is defendable, even if a little unnecessary. But these changes? How can these names do any harm in any way to anyone, except perhaps cause mild embarrassment to the more prudish players? Are we just going to pretend sex doesn’t exist now? Reminds me of when we had the Satanism moral panic in the 80s and a group of evangelical parents at my school got Zodiac symbol pendants banned from the school fair because Horoscopes are apparently a gateway to Satanism.

Oh come on. Yeah, let’s change a reference to love into a reference to heart break. On Valentine’s day.

Blizzard, are you okay?

doesn’t it work like that already?

Boeing has already their own share of issues related to wrong management.

On the topic : it has to stop, because at this point, goldshire inn should also be removed, alongside slutmogs.
