"U pUll yoU tAnk"

Honestly, it’s unfathomable how an atrocious concept like this can even exist in the player-base community. I was doing my +14 key - nothing out of the ordinary - just another week of pushing keys.

We were getting through the dungeon at a reasonable pace, (except for a few silly deaths, because people don’t read those dungeon guide thingys anymore). When after the first boss - one of the DPS (wasn’t me), had decided that maybe the tank was moving maybe a-little too slow for them and pulled the next pack of mobs ahead. What a boomer. What make’s this worse is the tank thought it was me that made the pull. And blamed me. Even though I profusely said it wasn’t…

He/She then proceeded to drop aggro and let me die. I then asked "why” and the DK just replied with “u pulled it, you tank it”. Disgusting. I then said words that aren’t appropriate for the forums so I’ll replace it with the word ‘dumb’ - “don’t be so ‘dumb’ maybe you should learn to play better”. He/She then said that they reported me and everyone got ticked off and left the group.

I mean JUST for arguments sake - let’s just say I did mistakenly pull a pack of mobs and it wasn’t an excessive amount that the group can’t handle or in any way whatsoever clear yet that I was doing it on purpose. It’s your job as tank to protect and mitigate damage from the group. Not let the run fail for some fallacy ego or agenda.

I want to know to what degree and how far this “u pull, u tank” agenda goes for some people. Does it mean if a caster is channeling a spell and it puts them in combat right before you charge as tank. You refuse to continue playing the game? Would that suffice?

The tank assigning blame (and possibly generally being toxic) in this situation probably shouldn’t have. But you as a DPS are obligated to move at the pace of the tank, not the other way around.

As a tank player, some tanks are slow as snails and should stop acting like divas. Just my humble opinion. Some DPS are right to push more said tanks, some are not.

As a side note, just avoid pugs.

It’s your job to assist the tank. Wanna pull entire hallways? Pro tip: play a tank, otherwise stick to what you’re expected to do.

I tank since TBC and you dont get to decide as dps if you can pull more or not.

There is a reason for 95% of the time why the tank isnt pulling more.
Be that any of the following:

  • lack of interrupts to lock down certain casts from caster mobs
  • not being comfortable as tank with a bigger pack
  • the trust in the healer / healer performance
  • lacking the cooldowns to pull certain packs. (I really like to have some of my cds / external cds ready for certain pulls)
  • the danger the next pack will mean for the current trash (certain buffs like shouts or bolstering for example)

No matter what the reason is, anyone pulling extra mobs because the tank “isnt” pulling fast enough and is ruining the key are wrong in my eyes.

If you pull more than your tank can handle means a wipe and that might ruin your key. And does cost you more time than anything else.

If the above is an issue for anyone there is 1 solution:
Dont pug your tank and find one to play with that you trust / etc.

some tanks are such divas lmfao, ignore and move on

however, i for one wouldn’t pull before a tank in a m+ because usually tanks know what pathing they wanna take and how much they wanna pull or w/e

buuuuut, sometimes they’re so slow, pausing for 10-20 seconds after each pull which can get so annoying, ofc someone is gonna pull

Absolutely, which is what I did, stick to what I’m expected to do unlike others. What bothers me is when mobs are pulled - that the tank didn’t pull. But it’s not going to wipe the group… like no need to make a big deal out of one mob. Just tell your group not to do it again. If it’s that bothersome.

This scenario of hyperactive DPS is the main reason I hate (dislike with an extreme passion, if you prefer) random grouping… even WB’s or group (W)Q’s.

If you aren’t prepared to park your ego at the queue accept point, just decline the group. You are joining a Group with others that are queuing for a specific role, if your character isn’t designed for the role, stop kidding yourself you CAN do it, or your bluff will get called - like the OP had happen, if I’m on one of my Tanks, I will call you out if you don’t let me get my face smashed because it’s my job.

In fact, I was (Paladin) Tanking the other night & a Voidwalker kept stealing aggro; I told the 'lock to turn the voidy off & another paladin pointed at them… they switched minion & what we we fighting died a lot faster, so I felt vindicated (sic).

Certainly, some folk just overeacts due to the smallest bs. If there is a ninjapull, just deal it and carry on. Most of the time I wouldn’t even bother with typing anything, such a waste of time.

if I was tanking and someone pulled, i will probably do the same and let the puller tank what he pulled

you have to understand that that tank probably got fed up with dps trying to do his job for him and pulling what they want

it’s annoying and it happens often, so instead of getting mad at him, you should understand his situation

And its dps job to kill stuff, cc, kick and what not, but most important, let tank actualy tank, yet we all know it doesnt always works like that right?

idk who pulled in your situation, only group knows that so cant defend/blame anyone.
Anyway, i try to pull as much and as fast as i and healer can handle, yet there is always rogue/hunter misdirecting new packs to me, it dont realy mind it untill we wipe.
On the other hand, if there is some dps that goes full nuts with cds before i even touch mobs ( FH rangeds at start for example ) i let him die just to teach him…

Oh this one was a total diva, and yes you’re right about that tanks do usually know what they’re doing just a bad case of luck I suppose.

FTR… if it’s your key & you’re DPS, that doesn’t mean you ‘own’ the Group. Your best bet is to find a known, trusted Tank; esp. if your key is at a level you’re not 100% comfortable with.

I am not much of a “u pull it, you tank it” tank but…the average dps does not take into account;

  1. Defensives
  2. Group cds
  3. Special mobs
  4. Healer’s mana
  5. Route
  6. SKITTISH / bolstering / bursting / fortified

So then it is quite annoying if you have one of those “I aLwAyS pUlL lIkE tHiS wHeN i TaNk, I pRo” dpses.

I would counter that with, “Well you AIN’T the Tank, so remember what Role you are and STICK to it!” :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t think in this scenario, the tank in question would have a liable defense and say us DPS were ninja pulling. Everything was going smooth until point in question. This tank was very bad or at least inexperienced / didn’t look like knew mechanics too well and I think you should be more tolerant

I realise the tank wrongly blamed you and there was some disagreement, but I do agree with the sentiment. Unless a tank is ok with me pulling for them, I just don’t do it. If I feel they are pulling too small I will say pull more please. Or I will just go with the flow.

Obviously accidents happen and I have on occasion accidentally pulled but I will always say sorry my bad or words to that effect. Most tanks will pick up accidental mobs. One night our healer kept walking into mobs and we just ended up laughing that he had a big bottom that he needed to stop wiggling at all the packs we went past.

The tank letting you die like that doesn’t help anyone, especially if you are running a key.

Tolerance does - and should - work both ways.

The more reason not to pull extra :grinning: but true.
