Understanding bow damage

Hi,
I am having trouble understanding whats going on here. I recently bought a new bow in the means of an upgrade but when in use it does less damage. Yet this bow in my eyes has better stats in every manner. Is there something I’m missing?

The old level 10 bow is the (Heavy Shortbow) and the upgrade is (Short Ash Bow)
Here is a few screenshots of me asking a friend with all the stats.

Bow damage consists of two components:

  • The bow damage listed
  • Extra damage per second based on attack power

Since the new bow is faster, it’s quite normal to have lower individual hits, despite the higher base damage.
If you find an add-on that restores the BFA (well, BC) character screen, you can see it there.

If you do 30 damage every 4 seconds then in 12 seconds you do 90.

If you do 25 damage every 3 seconds then in 12 seconds you do 100.

Your short Ash bow is faster but does less damage per shot, where as the Heavy Shortbow is slower and does more damage per shot.

Over all the short ash bow has more damage per second, but consider for hunters your mutlishot will also do more damage with a slower weapon.

Hunters are better with slower bows.

Really depends, Multishot is a mana sink, unless you like to drink all the time it’s not really a skill that is often used during questing. So I would always go for the highest DPS Bow, Gun or Crossbow.
