So I just noticed something playing recently. Before classic got rereleased, I always heard so much about how to get to level 60 you always had to go through every zone and do just about every quest to get to 60, but now I’m sitting at lvl 39 and I still haven’t even started Badlands/Dustwallow or Swamp of sorrows. This is not really a problem because I can just go back later when I have the time and do them. It’s just that I’m so surprised that the questing paste is so fast. I have done some dungeons and a little bit of rested xp but I still feel like i’m outlevelling zones a bit hard here.
I figured by the time I actually get to clean badlands & the others I’ll be 40/41’ish.
Am I missing something here? Do you run dry on quests later on and need “buffer” zones for compensation or am i just wrong here?
This isn’t a big deal or anything, but I just had to get out my thoughts. I just never expected to involuntarily outlevel zones in classic.
You don’t run dry on quests unless you seriously mess up your questing route. All this talk about having to visit every zone is an exaggeration.

Kind of this…although if you look at someone like Jame’s guide, they pretty much have you in every zone. Although unlike post Cata…you do a bit in various zones working 3 or 4 at a time and then keep going back as you increase in level.
I agree. Leveling is too fast. I want to complete every quest and most of quests I’m doing are gray or green. I’m level 43 and I only started doing Arathi. I guess, I’ll come to STV at level 50, LoL.
Leveling to 60 I completed every zone except Teldrassil, 2/3rds of Darkshore and the eastern half of Ashenvale. I could definitely have completed more than that if I remembered Alliance had a FP in Azshara right at the border with Ashenvale.
Admittedly, at times it took some planning and switching back and forth to stay within range, but nothing special. As long as a quest is not green by more than two levels you’re still getting full exp for it - for example, a level 29 quest that turns green at 33, still gives full exp at 35, gives about 90% exp at 36, and a sharp decline at 37 and over.
That said, you can definitely skip some content on your way to 60 and it might even be optimal to do that. Personally I hate the dungeon cleave meta with a passion, I only ran each dungeon once or twice to complete quests, but if you do farm dungeons at times it’s inevitable you will overlevel some content.
Has always depended on how many dungeons you have run, your pace and rested XP, and how many mobs you have to grind to complete each quest.
Idk what you are doing, but if you were only doing quests there is no way that you had enough quests till level 43. and you are entering level 30+ quest zones now, have cleared zones only getting 2 levels per zone.
I did every dungeon once and that’s about it.
Sorry it does not calculate in my head how you can have such huge level gap , maybe you did allot of farming.
you had alot of rested exp right ?
I have done pretty much all zones up to that level range and even with farming and some rested xp I have not been even close to such gap, that would mean that you have done only
2 starting zone
Westfal
Loch Modan
Darkshore
Redridge
Wetlands
Ashenvale
Stonetalon Mountains
Duskwood
From which I have done everything when leveling except Stonetalon Mountains, not that many quests anyway.
No, the only thing that I farmed is fishing and mining
Rested XP might be a thing, though, I never logout in taverns but it stacks anyway.
No, I did much more zones.
Here are zones that I did not complete:
Arathi Highlands
Badlands
The Hinterlands
Stranglethorn Vale
Searing Gorge
Feralas
Blasted Lands
Un’Goro Crater
Burning Steppes
Felwood
Azshara
Western Plaguelands
Winterspring
Eastern Plaguelands
Tanaris
Silithus
Moonglade
So you did
Desolance
Thousand Needles
Hillsbrad Foothills
Dustwallow Marsh
?
Then it could be possible.
Yes. I have list of zones and I’m removing zones as I progress. Those zones I did not complete yet. Doing Arathi now.
Personally I had to visit so many different zones from 30-40. It was a pain in the **s to say the least.
I do have to say that I am new to the classic experience and I have in no way or form got any sort of experience in levelling the most efficient way.
I think I did maybe 10 quests or so 40-50, rest was literally grinding ZF and Maraudon for experience.
Up to 35 or so you will have to pick and choose zones. I missed alot of zones in that range. At least on allience.
Yep that’s WoW for you. Even in Vanilla there’s too many quests to do that you’ll end up having to go back to do some gray ones eventually.
It’s because there were fewer quests when Vanilla launched than by the end of Vanilla. Combined with how some don’t like that Classic is popular, there not being enough quests to level to 60 is a myth frequently perpetuated.

It turns out the whole supposed ‘not enough quests to reach 60 fact’ has been a false statement for 15 years. With addon’s like Questie you won’t miss a questline in the game, and if you keep completing green quests, you can reach 60 before starting Western and Eastern Plaguelands. That’s what I did. Pure questing, no Dungeon grinding or AoE farming. The only dungeons I did was to complete quests. And I still completed many quests while they were yellow. Could have been more conservative and visit zones I skipped now.
