Mixing pve and pvp was a good idea for a battleground and I think they should do it again in the future, having the different events that would pop up and drive pvp battles in a certain area was fun.
Also the fragment system was fun because sometimes youd get lucky and get a bunch of fragments off someone you killed.

Let’s be real, Ashran was utter trash but I also had a funny times there. Just in the beginning though. It was a mess.
I didn’t really enjoy it much but we’re all different. I dislike it even more in it’s current format.
i think its worse in its current format, obviously they had to reduce the amount of players because of lag.
Funny thing is back in WOD there was way less of this lag we now have in pvp.
All these random proc effects make the servers go up in flames

It was the best non-instanced battleground but way too many stupid objectives and overpowered items. Not to mention the 8 hour queues to get in after they made it half-instanced for balancing reasons.
Ashran wasn’t bad itself but it had few design flaws:
- It was major source of gear in early WoD and the only source of Accolade trinkets
- In later stages of the expansion it was worth more going there farming artifact pieces to exchange them for honor than playing battlegrounds = battlegrounds dead. I geared alt into full honor in 3-4 hours.
- 40v40 fighting and events shouldn’t be merged. It created a lot of chaos and while both factions had 40 people more coordinated one always won. There should be a fight between factions and events as separate instances so it would be more coordinated = fun.
- Dailies and artifact farming should be separate part of Ashran like it was in Tol Barad. This way there aren’t 10 players not interested in events and fight frustrating 30 other players who tries to get weekly chest. Artifact pieces farming was the most efficient honor farming but players who did this made their team handicapped.
Non Ashran related problems:
- Game design changed since Classic and it was obvious that Ashran tried to recreate Vanilla AV vibes. Unfortunately the game changed so much that it favoured ranged classes so hard that a meele specs were useless there.
- Horde racial nerfs early WoD. It made Alliance way stronger so most PvP players migrated there. Winning at daytime as horde was barely possible. Horde only won at night when most Alliance players reached their goals.
good points overall ,i disagree with you on the 3rd point though. I liked the chaos of the event especially the one where you had to do the 3 laps with your faction npc
By the chaos I mean that half of the group went for the event and second half pushed the flags. It ended with your faction losing event and then enemy factions rushing you as 40 people and losing flags as well.
These things should be separate and it would be good.
Ashran is the only BG that plays differently with different teams. I like it.
The only problem it has is the performance. But I love pvpve and I want more of it.
I loved the titles you got from doing it (I think it was Ashran?) Orcslayer, Manslayer etc I loved doing it for them
Yes it was definitely lagless back in the day.
I’ve had some fun moments in Ashran for sure but the general feel of the place was for the most part not that good.
Getting Ashran as a epic bg these days is alright though but feels like a waste since most of the map doesn’t get used really.
i still use the warlord of draenor title on my orc
I liked it more than anything we got in BfA and Legion.
Ashran was fine back in its day despite the lag it often suffered… currently now, no… it sucks.
Ashran was one of the best things in WoD.
And those that says that Ashran was trash during WoD, it does not matter what they say.
As long as you enjoyed Ashran back in the day, thats what matters and others opinion wont matter just because their experience with it was sh1t.
But yeah i agree with you OP, Ashran was amazing.
I had alot of alts back in the day, and damn the Honor points was being pumped, easy gearing for alts.
It was a splendid example of the communities defiance.
Ashran Launches.
Blizzard: Youre not supposed to play it like that
Community: We dont care. We like it this way.
Blizzard changes stuff so people have to play it like they want
Community refuses and plays it their way
Blizzard: Youre not supposed to play it like this.
Community: We still dont care. We do it this way.
Blizzard changes stuff again.
Community refuses to adapt once more.
Can you still get them? I guess it would take way longer right enough now
You can still get the Nemesis PvP titles, as well as Lord/Lady of War and Warlord of Draenor.
For the latter in particular however, you are better off organizing a group to queue up at the same time - not a lot of people are doing it these days, and so the wait for a single round of fighting in the Fight, Kill, Salute quest can take several hours.
