Competitive level is still competitive, those players on top (at least i assume we talk about those players, cuz u can do m15in time/ half of mythic raid even with subpar coruptions) invest a lot into game, and for sure items arent only things while they are on top, skill matters there much more than items

Of course this is not really relevant to newer player, I am mostly talking about the competitive level where you are “supposed” to have skill, not gold/money/luck.

I’d rather have competitiveness die so we can trade items than the other way around. Imo what’s killing this game right now isn’t corruption, it’s the design around competition, which must exist in its own bubble with its own rule set, and the unhealthy obsession with balance.

Sorry but gear progression is at the core of the game, especially in PVE.

I respectfully disagree, when this type of player form groups and queue in random bgs for the lols of two-shotting new players with a health pool around 200.000.

Yesterday I “healed” a full ilvl 470 blood DK flag carrier with a pool health around 1000000 and with total self heals equal to my healing (ilvl 445). Alliance let us cap to finish the game, because that Dk was untouchable, even after the nerfs.

I would not have believed it if I did not see it with my own eyes.

It is not just the corruption that is cancer. You can bet though that it is not helping with this gear disparity at all!
What should new players do? Farm for months or buy boost runs and items in the AH?

I think it’s fairly safe to say I hate this system. To the point it makes me not want to play.

The drop rates are appalling. On the weekly chest (which is guaranteed to be corrupted apart from trinkets) there is a drop chance of 2% of getting the corruption you need. So the drop rate from other sources is even worse because those don’t even guarantee to corrupt. It’s fine having a horrible drop rate like that on a raid mount from legacy content but not for something we need in the current game.

Some have clearly been lucky or are happy to blow gold on buying their bis corruptions from the AH and they can do varying levels of increased damage depending on how often they get procs.

Loot feels incredibly disappointing because other than getting the right corruption nothing else seems to matter much any more. We can’t target corrupted gear, it has no set drops other than a few weapons from the raid. I did not like titanforging but at least not getting a titanforge did not negatively impact your dps the way corruption does.

I could do enough content on a weekly basis to get at least one legendary a week in Legion. If you got a disappointing legendary you knew it was removed from your loot pool and you’d increased your chance of getting a good one next. There is no such system for corruption. You can keep getting useless corruptions over and over and over. That’s if you are able to get one to drop in the first place. Most of my drops do not have corruption on them.

The only part of this system that I do like though, is the guaranteed corruption on some of the drops in the raid. You know for a fact you will get infinite stars on the sword on carapace, it is guaranteed (as long as you kill the boss until the sword drops that is) but it is deterministic so I like it.

Only a small subset of the set of possible corruptions are guaranteed on raid drops from bosses though, which is unfortunate.
