Hello Blizz,
I just saw the unreal engine 4 remake of wow classic zones. And it sadens me seeing now that this should have been the way wow classic is released.
I believe it still can be. Just redo the old zones, do the same quests and add a couple of new stuff. Maybe even inclide TBC and Wrath in patches and create a couple more high end zones in the classic continents. Just some stuff so there is still population and something to do in the old world. Or fill the gaps between the expansions with a couple of dungeons and raids so noone knows when classic will end and TBC will begin. This i think is the single worst thing now in classic. Everyone knows when its gonna end.
And then dont let the Cataclysm happen and create some original stuff in another timeline.
I think this really could work.
These unreal Engine 4 remakes were done by a single person. Look what he did to Stormwind for example (youtube). Thats insane. Imagine what a company with hundreds of people could do.
A vocal group of people would hate this, besides it would cost a lot of money, which goes against the spirit of releasing classic to begin with.
Unreal engines are cursed when it comes to MMOs At least UE3 was, but still, far too much money effort, plus Blizz would never go for someone else’s engine when they have a domestic one, as the cost in royalties would be prohibitive.
It looks amazing, but then you get hit with all the performance issues that comes along with it.
It also wouldn’t feel like WoW, since all the new upgraded graphics and such.
we got classic the way it is because that artstyle is timeless. texture resolution may be low, models may be blocky, but the art style takes those 2 and creates a unique experience for the player.
wow was about recreating warcraft rts in an rpg game and the art style had to be the same.
ue4 redesign may look cool, but it takes away from vanilla what made it unique and recognizable.
might as well classify it as a mod of some generic rpg as it looks in ue4.
No, it shouldn’t. Classic should have been released the way it was, with the same graphics that we have now.
