Valheim a bit more fun than sl

This game made by 5 people apparently. Has anyone tried this game out? I normally hate early access survival games but this game has some magic. It gave me strong wow classic vibes.

Its worth checking out for sure

A ‘WoW killer’ for Viking Survivalists…and the graphics blow chunks… Hard pass.

If you think about it for a moment, I believe you’ll find that an mmo game that has hours of questing content, lots of voiceover work, 36 sets of variable player powers multiplied by four faction power sets, a system of procedurally generated instances coupled with another variable power set, multiple fully realized multiplayer instances, a huge scaling 30-man instance that takes hours to complete, thousands of high quality 3d assets, multiple pvp maps across several game modes, an emtire system and minigame dedicated to companion pets, queing and matchmaking systems for several different types of content, loads of other stuff I can’t even think of ATM and all the code work done on the back end to make it all work, all done with the limitation of a 15 year old game engine, running continuously for said 15 years, with all that basically made again every couple of years, might be slightly more involved and thus, the ‘5 man studio’ comparison with a game that is essentially just a crafting system and a 3d map, might be a bit unfair or disingenious.

If you enjoy it, more power to you. But I don’t think any comparison would be valid, nor does it warrant discussion on this message board.

Its not a wowkiller and that was my reaction at first as well but the lighting and consistency of the graphic style make it quite endearing to be honest

You can’t do paragraphs inside one sentence. That was part of the skit.

Okay have a good evening …

No one questions that from a technical standpoint sl is a marvel but all this timegating and daily/weekly structure is not fun.

I would love for the next expansion to abolish this and make quests more organic

We will have to agree to disagree.
Don’t think the character customisation krew are going to be getting very excited, either.

Is there some kind of phrase generator for this guff, to give it a cloak of respectability, while players demand it…until it’s included…and then players immediately hate it:
Organic Quests
Meaningful Immersion
Branching Decision Based Narrative
Non-Aerial Peregrination

Yet actually just play the Metas, recommended by influencers on the interwebz.

well if other people came to the same independent conclusion then maybe its an issue

Valhiem is idd a nice breath of fresh air, sadly, its also damn limited to what it can offer at this stage.

Dont get me wrong, i am hooked on that game as well, the simple combat, the simple gear progression ect.

Still, in the end, it doesn’t offer as many hours fun as wow can offer you atm.

Sure there are player our there that have builded some insane buildings, but, in the end, they play Valheim as a single player game, and tho, no other get to enjoy the building they have made, only themself and people watching them on reddit or youtube.

The progress in Valheim (spoiler?), is like following:
1: Wood, stone and flint.
2: Build a base (perfectly near water).
3: Start farming pigs and deers for hide (then later on trolls).
4: Kill first boss.
5: You are now able to mine, copper and tin is next up in the dark forest.
6: Kill second boss.
7: You can now progress to iron in the swamps.
8: Kill nr 3 boss.
9: You can now start farming silver in the mountains and start progress towards boss nr 4.
10: Kill boss nr 4.
11: You are now able to craft the “end game stuff” (for now), by raiding goblin camps in the plains (best part imo, i enjoyed this a lot, felt like a real viking at this point, set sail towards the sea, find new land, pillage them for their stuff and set sail home).
12: Kill boss nr 5 (last for now, more to come later).

Thats more or less it, simple (but time consuming).

This game also have the “old school” feeling to it with weapon skills, tho, you dont miss like that, it just increase the dmg your able to do with said weapon or make you able to attack faster (bow).

Still, outside the progress and exploration in Valheim (and building a awesome base if thats your thing), there are sadly not more to it at this point.

Graphics wise, i dont mind it, i love it if anything, way better then all those newly made eye candy games thats way to flashy for me.

Its the first survival game i have ever played (i bet the 3 person view really helps, since i cant stand 1 person, i just get extremely sick fast).

All in all, Valheim is a cool game that i will recommand players to try out if they are interesting, its simple, addictive, yet, after some time, you will run out of stuff to do sadly, while in wow, you have tons of stuff you can focus on if you get bored with gearing, like farming transmorg, pets, toys, mounts, achievements, or just do quests, or help a fellow wow player out with whatever they might need help with.

Server wise, i fear the multi-player part of Valheim is a bit lagging atm (haven’t tryed this as of yet), but, watching other via youtube just yells that this is more or less single player focus atm, still, had love to give this a try.

I don’t understand the hype about Valheim there is nothing unique about it, have you not played any other survival game?

Very nice summary of the game. The music is also really good and how it can switch from calm and relaxing to some heavy rock ballads.

Valheim is great.
But its literally a survival game, it could not be more detached from the same market as WoW is.

I disagree. The game is unique in how it handles your survival meters.
It’s not like other survival games where you have “LOOK AT ALL OF THESE BARS IF THEYRE EMPTY YOU ARE DEAD”. It takes a much more casual attitude towards the survival aspects, eating buffs your health and stamina, and lasts a while, but not eating doesn’t kill you.

Honestly as someone who’s played some ARK, I imagine Valheim would also be very enjoyable… I mean at the very least it’s less buggy.

I dont know… its third person, has bosses to fight, open world, you can form a raid with other players, you can mine ore and craft gear, you can level skills…

Some stuff just takes off, like Minecraft did despite it being nothing more than a game of lego with a single zombie.

And just like that, 100% lost interest…

You have a lovely hat.
Can I try it on? I promise not to steal it much.
