You were right about this stuff, There is no solution. These are my theories about anyone claiming DX11 fixes it. They were not using 100 percent of their GPU in DX12, so they now use even less bypassing a crash that would otherwise occur. They will crash at some point but overlook it. The only solution is to use linux. Literally I have bumped into people with MSI motherboards 7900XTX and a 7950X3D who claim not to crash YET they get 60 fps in Valdrakken meaning they were too lazy to run proper core affinity by setting preferred cores to cache to maximize gaming performance on the dual CCD CPU. I get 110 FPS in Valdrakken on my 6000 CL28 system so i know for a fact DX11 wonât solve the issue. I also tried to help someone else with an ASUS board an 79503D and 7900XTX and DX11 slowed the crashes down but no solution. I can also confirm timeouts recover much quicker now after time. ONLY SOLUTION IS LINUX. You can try DXVK in windows dll files, yet this is reported not a soluiton. If you go linux i reccomend nobara/fedora or Arch/Manjaro.
My game still has graphic resets as if just crashed or i randomly lose control of the game, but all without driver timeout now, i used to get a ton of freezes about once a day, and others reported this as well at the time Blizzard never acknowledged it, i did not even get to play this expansion its so depressing.
Thats really sad. I totally understand you. Had this trouble with timeouts and crashes with my Sapphire Radeon 7900XTX. As well with an Intel and a Ryzen CPU. (7800x3D and 14700K)
Swapped to a Nvidia card and had no complains for 7 months now. Not a Single stutter or crash. Heard this several Times. Was the only solution after several weeks of pain and frustration.
Do yourself a favour and order a nvidia card just for testing. Other stuff is pure torture.
Im considering options right now that AMD may not like, the best way to deal with AMD is just to give them bad reputation by actually providing proof of the problem, in a way they cannot escape without fixing it.
To bad i hate my own voice and have autism, so i struggle to achieve what i want to do until i find a solution for my voice.
Anyway no crashes just graphic resets in game, i have had no driver timeouts since i started playing World of Warcraft, i am pretty sure its a game issue Blizzard just need to get of their high horse and look into this, they are contributing to a toxic monopoly.
Iâve been using version 24.5.1 for almost 1 month and apart from the first day, I havenât had any more problems. For now I will continue without updating, since I am not having any graphical problems in the prepatch either.
You are right, they wonât do anything
There is too little collaboration between GPU manufacturers and game developers.
This should be constant, for all games and all current GPUs.
Itâs basically a requirement for modern GPUâs especially now GPUâs get more complicated tech.
Coming back to let you all know that I havenât managed to crash in the last week or more. To my shame, Iâll admit this might be considered user error by some.
I thought, hey, maybe my W11 is borked by the many, many DDUâs Iâve done and the problemâs actually fixed and I donât know about it. So I did a fresh W11 install yet again. And I figured Iâd let Gigabyte Control Center do its thing and install whatever drivers it thinks are best. It also has a habit of installing Ryzen Master along with everything.
I opened up Ryzen Master out of curiosity and again, out of curiosity, I clicked on the reset button. And after a restart, it reset the Memory Clock to 2400 Mhz and CAS Latency to 40 and the crashes just stopped.
I never manually overclocked my RAM or messed with timings and such. I only enabled EXPO in the BIOS. Itâs the G.Skill Flare X5 32GB (2x16GB) (F5-6000J3636F16GX2-FX5) and my MB is the B650 Aorus Elite AX rev1.2. The RAM is listed as being in the QVL list by G.skill but it is not listed in the QVL list that Gigabyte provides for my motherboard. Still, they were supposed to be CL36 and theyâre now set to CL40 for some reason.
But oh well, Iâm just glad I can enjoy the game again. Hope this will help some of you get rid of the issue.
I can not recommend using linux enough to deal with this issue. Linux works right out of the box. Try nobara, Fedora, Arch linux, Open Suse, Debian, All good flavors. If you have full amd hardware i swear itâs the most painless thing and you will get better overall performance in windows. I been solid in linux since this event.
No one should be buying a 4090 just to cope with a pay to play.
Been really stable lately not even a graphic reset since i disabled RT, game runs incredibly bad tho compared to what it used to run like when it was crashing a lot.
Graphic resets stopped since i disabled RT / got rid of my second display over HDMI and replaced it with a 4k 144hz monitor over DP instead, now both my monitors have HDR.
Been leveling my remaining alts to 70 now as of lately as well thru dungeons.
what do you mean by âdisabled RTâ? just disable Ray traced shadows in the graphics options?
Yep i disabled ray tracing shadows, honestly RT does not even work correctly in dragonflight the sun cast one way, the shadows point the wrong direction.
It only worked well during shadowlands, especially during hot summer if you struggle with heat in your room, i recommend turning that off, your GPU will run cooler and your room will be cooler as well.
Most of us have had these hang ups in win10/11 with RT off. This is not gonna fix for many people.
This is still happening Blizzard, when are you going to fix your game please?
Whatâs the long term plan? Never buy AMD cards even current top dogs like 7900 XTX?
Should we just un-sub until your fix this?
Very very annoying Blizzard - please do something.

Question did you ever memtest your memory ?
Yep, just had my first crash this expansion. Screen froze, mouse was still moving ⌠until it wasnât. Black screen after 30 seconds and had to reboot. Back to DX11 it is âŚ
It is honestly pretty revolting to think that just as I had gotten my system stable, now I just canât enjoy the game⌠again. Same here, crashing like crazy again.
I have the 7900XTX with a 7800x3D processor and I am still on version 2.4.5.1 and I have not had a crash since May. For now I will continue without updating
And I tried the 24.5.1 driver today and still crashed. Iâm on 7800 XT with 7800X3D though.
Itâs so curious how it all results in driver timeouts but itâs always a little bit different for everybody.
