Yepppp the crashes are back for me, 6700xt, constant crashing
Blizzard please you have Radeon users playing your game, stop feeding into NVIDIA monopoly ignoring Radeon gamers.
AMD is more then willing to help get the game to run stable, they even have tools that can help you with that.
Driver timeouts started again after installing AMD 24.7.1 drivers, re-installed back 24.6.1, which was most stable drivers I had far without crashing.
Edit: Yep, crashing with 24.6.1âŚ
Edit 2: Well 24.6.1 seems to be most stable, after that first crash it hasnât crashed after that.
Edit 3: Currently drivers no longer crashing WoW after disabling all Compatibility Settings.
At the beginning I also had blockages with 24.5.1 (In fact I documented it in another post from months ago), but after a few blockages, I have not had any more blockages for now. I donât know why but personally that driver solved my crashes and I have been able to play for many hours in a row without any kind of problem.
This was where I had my last crash
I would always upgrade drivers, unless that causes problems, then stay on old drivers however do not forget to send a bug report, i am actually in contact with some one from AMD and putting pressure to not ignore these issues, they never mentioned fixing it either they just mention making improvements these days.
Keep sending bug reports, it really does help, especially locations where you crash and after how long etc as much info as realistically possible.
I have been lucky so far, but i have also been very unlucky for 2 years missing pretty much most of the expansion.
24.8.1 has fixed nothing apparently. Still crashing and now itâs freezing for quite a bit longer, but the crashes are a bit less frequent. This is so disgusting.
I think this issue still persist since Dragonflight expansion comes out. Besides I will never ever buy expensive nvidia card to play gamesâŚI have no issues with my RX7600 XT any other games. Only World of Warcraft.
If Blizzard doesnât want to fix this problem, I wonât renew my subscription either⌠Besides, itâs been almost a month and the character restore service is still not available.
and also I will not buy Diablo IV garbage expansion. Iâm waiting for old-fashioned Titan Quest IIâŚno battlepass, no microtransactionsâŚHell yeahâŚ!!!
I also have the issue on my 7900XTX, contacted AMD, been trying different fixes for two weeks now. Updated everything from GPU drivers to BIOS. Most promising one was lowering my ram speed to from 3600mhz to 3200mhz and for some reason that helped for some time but then I got a crash again.
The worst part is that there is no clear reason why the hang then crash happens. And WoW is the only game with this issue. Looks like no renewing sub for me at this rate, if I am lucky I only get the crash once per day but man is it annoying.
Hereâs what I get from from the crash in security and maintenance:

Iâm currently using an older driver version: 23.11.1 and I have no crash in 3-4 days - still testing though, but apparently older drivers are more stable.
This ainât a solution by any means, still needs Blizzard to actually do something about it.
For those that crash can you enable AFMF and make it work ? because i cannot, and since i cannot it has not had graphic resets, its like the game is forcing vsync on regardless.
Got sick of the problem, put my old 1080 back in the PC replacing the 7900xtx. I played WoW for about 30 minutes and I got a freeze. Though unlike with Radeon, sounds would continue and the game would unfreeze after about 10-15 second. No crash report in windows either, but LivekernelEvent this time. And yes I did full DDU uninstall and installed fresh Geforce drivers. This damn freeze haunts me across GPUs there is no escape.
Well regarding all AMD problems with DX12 games and overal stability, I have some tips for you to fix issues:
- Never ever have auto in BIOS settings. Mainly for PCIe settings. Always have PCIe3 or PCIe4 in BIOS set. Really never auto.
- Never ever have auto in BIOS for CPU/Memory settings. Set Freq and multipliers manually. And XMP enabled.
- In BIOS enable Above 4G decoding and Resizable BAR
- Have minimal installation of AMD graphic drivers (that means Adrenaline without tuning part)
- And very important - disable Multi-Plane Overlay. Can be disabled by running mpo_disable.reg from this link:

What the hell. Maybe this is a platform issue? A CPU issue? A RAM issue? What motherboard you got?
I am stumped. But seeing as how it is only happening with WoW my finger is starting to point in Blizzardâs direction.
In case anyone comes looking at this thread CPU i5-12600k, Mobo Asrock Z690 Extreme. RAM [Kingston 32GB (2 x 16GB) FURY Renegade, DDR4 3600MHz, CL16. (currently clocked at 3200)
The livekernelevent is as follows (I noticed it happened before too, with GTX1080 it simply doesnât hang WoW.exe with AppHangB1 unlike 7900XTX)

Same happens here too and i am using AMD (CPU + MB) and Nvidia GPU , sometimes even before this patch (starting with 10.2 i think) WoW was freezing but it was very rare and i didnt give much importance.
I changed everything on my computer (for testing purpose) other than the MB and CPU and ive tried all the tricks and settings and nothing helps.
For me it mostly happens when i alt-tab but it can happen during playing too and the drivers are crashing time to time when this happens.
It doesnt happen in any other program/game than Wow (i dont play other blizzard games)
I noticed this , and it was pretty bad, when i was on BETA/PTR and now it seems that is getting worse on Live too, im pretty sure its something messed up with WoW or Windows 11 and not with our computers (most of them), ive seen many topics on this subject everywhere (reddit , other forums , blizz US forum etc.) , at first i thought that its something wrong with this computer before seeing so many complains from people with different hardware.
What you can try to do if you cant play at all is to lower your GPU Clock / power limits and remove any OC you might have , including XMP , if you are lucky you will get less crashes ⌠nothing that i tried in software or bios helped to fix this totally (i am a network admin).
From Windows Event Viewer when the video driver crashes:
The description for Event ID 153 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
From WoW log when it crashed (i dont get many crashes mostly WoW freezes for a few seconds and is not responsive)

Iâm on the AMD Fluid Motion Frame Generation Preview drivers now. These are not giving me any issues. I have it backed up in Linux on two distros but zero crashing in 4 days now. Ray tracing is off in win 11 DX12 on 24.20.01.01 AFMF 2.0 drivers.
Sick frames in 4k
I am glad i have no issues anymore, but i have had issues for 2+ years, and have received 0 compensation, i just want to point this out to everyone, especially Blizzard, this has made me very depressed, i have no friends anymore in wow.
Getting back into wow right now is not easy, i am not in the right mindset right now to join a guild.
Yeah i actually crashed again in windows. I don´t know man, i just play alone anyway. Linux then.
But how did you get rid of the issue?
I nag a lot with AMD, and they reached out to me to join vanguard program many times under different aliases, however i have no intrest in joining, i am already burned out.
I spend like 2-3 months out of spite finding all kind of bugs and issues to report to AMD to proof a point, on how bad their drivers are and it worked, they are now taking it more serious.
But as result i am burned out now and depressed, they sometimes still ask me questions and i answer them, and i still have contact with them.
